Deer Park is one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Fairfax. There is a great vibe here with good people who like where they live. It is an easy 10 minute walk to downtown Fairfax. It has been voted best town in Marin for many years by Marin residents. It is very safe, quiet and peaceful but there are also many options for entertainment, too. There is live music at 3 venues downtown that play music nightly. You will also find coffee shops, and a variety of ethnic restaurants which include Italian, Cajun, Thai, American, Indian, Chinese, and Mexican. There is a pizzeria and an awesome little wine bar that also serves delicious food. We also have the best organic ice-cream shop in Marin County!! There is a great brew pub and right across the street from it there is a wonderful and very high quality grocery store that specializes in organic, non GMO and local foods. There is also another locally owned grocery store at the other end of town. In the summer through fall there is a charming farmers market with live music, kids activities and local produce and food.
There are a few options in getting here from the airport. We can provide details if needed.
There are buses from Fairfax that will take you to San Francisco and to the ferry station in Larkspur. The buses also go to some other places in the area. It is a 15 minute ride by car to the Larkspur Ferry and the ride provides a very scenic and pleasant way to get to San Francisco.
Fairfax is heaven for bikers. Mountain biking began in Marin County! There is easy access (5 minute walk) to not only some of the best mountain biking and hiking in all of Marin, but also to some epic road biking, and it's right outside your door. There are miles of trails to explore. Fairfax also has the only legal single track mountain biking in Marin. We are very close to 3 beautiful lakes that have picnic areas, fishing, birding and hiking. The Tamalpais watershed (a short drive) provides a plethora of hiking also, with different terrain for everyone's enjoyment.
We are a 30-45 minute drive to San Francisco and Pt Reyes National Seashore (with many amazing beaches). Marin and San Francisco not only have beginner surf spots but some great spots for experienced surfers as well. Tomales Bay has easy access kid-friendly beaches and great kayaking. Napa Valley/Sonoma wine country has great wine tasting (1hr away). The lovely town of Healdsburg is also a great destination for wine and shopping (also 1hr away). Calistoga, which is 45-60 minutes away, has hot springs and natural mineral pools to soak away your worries. Samuel P. Taylor State park is 20-25 minutes away with lovely picnic areas and lots of old redwoods for shade. There are also wetlands nearby (15-20 minutes) that provide fantastic bird-watching opportunities. There is so much to explore and experience near here.
