About this listing
Light and bright modern space, with 2 bedrooms, separate entrance, and full kitchen; free parking; minutes from public transportation. Clean, comfortable beds. Sleeps 2-5 guests. SF License #STR(phone number hidden)
Enjoy San Francisco sunshine as you dine (yes, we have SUNSHINE year around in our part of the city!).
This space is on the ground floor of our 3-story home, and set back from the street, so it is insulated from street noise, and stays cool in the hotter months. Remodeled in 2004, the unit has travertine marble floors, fresh paint, a full kitchen with newer fridge/freezer and oven/range, a new bathroom, an outdoor deck with a view of the garden, and halogen lighting. Guests enter along a pass-through at the side of the house, which is lighted after dark.
The entire space can accommodate up to 5 people. Each bedroom has a very comfortable double/full bed. The daybed in the living room can be used as a twin bed if you ask us for sheets.
There is a one-time housekeeping fee of $60.
If you'd like to stay longer than 30 days, we request a security deposit of $870, which will be returned, depending on the condition of the flat upon your leaving.
We provide guests with a password for our WiFi network, our garden, and our time, if we're available, to show off our best city sights!
We like to meet our guests and are happy to answer questions about the unit, the neighborhood, parking, public transport. We have put together a custom guide book with recommendations for restaurants, cafes, shops, and museums, and how to reach them. We're eager to make sure you're comfortable and settled in; depending on our schedules, we sometimes invite guests up to share a glass of wine or hors d'oeuvres. Guests may encounter our two small dogs (12 lbs. each) in the back yard, and might hear the dogs moving around our kitchen, which is directly above the guest unit's kitchen.

Interaction with Guests
We love to share a coffee or tea with our guests when we can. It's lovely meeting people from around the world on their first adventure in San Francisco!
In our neighborhood you'll experience the real San Francisco--an eclectic mix of African Americans, Asians, Latinos, Europeans, Whites, and Samoans. This raw cultural diversity is one of the reasons we love our City. Our neighborhood is industrial; you're as likely to run into professionals as you are the working class and those without jobs. It's a mix of warehouses, ethnic eateries, and some terrific restaurants, breweries, and cafes (All Good Pizza, Radio Africa Kitchen, Speakeasy, Trouble Coffee, Flora Grubb). We've lived here happily for 10 years. By San Francisco standards, home prices remain relatively affordable in our neighborhood (average home price is $650K). New housing is being developed at a rapid pace. As you drive or ride towards the tourist attractions, you'll pass more affluent neighborhoods like Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and Potrero Hill.
San Francisco is experiencing such a construction boom that it takes longer to get anywhere, so all forms of transportation will take longer than usual. A light rail stop is 2 blocks away; the train is the easiest way to get around the City without the hassle of parking ($2.25 per trip; exact change required). There is also a bus stop at the corner that goes to tourist attractions ($2.25 per trip; exact change required). If you have a rental car, parking is on-street and free, and we're close to major freeways if you plan to visit Marin, the wine country, or Silicon Valley.
Other Things to Note
In the 19th century, Bayview was known for its tanneries and slaughterhouses. Residents included French, Irish, Italian and Maltese immigrants. World War II brought an influx of residents, many of them African Americans from the south, who came to work at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The shipyard closed in the 1970s, and the neighborhood has been in transition since then: an eclectic mix of African Americans, Asians, Latinos, Europeans, Whites, and Samoans. We are considerate of our guests' needs for privacy and quiet, and expect our guests to be considerate of ours. We are happy to provide information and assistance, but we work at home, and may not always be available to guests during working hours. If we are available, however, we'll let you know and accompany you around the neighborhood, if you wish. Our bedroom and offices are on the 3rd floor, which means our guests are unlikely to hear us as we move through our day, and we're unlikely to hear you.
We'd love to be able to include pets, but we have 2 small dogs of our own who might be very jealous! Our neighbors have dogs, too, so don't be alarmed by a little woofing now and then.
We don't allow smoking both for health and safety reasons.
We stayed two nights, and the visit was excellent. The house is clean, quiet, pretty, and exactly as described. We had an easy time with parking, and Alka and Brad were incredible hosts, warm, friendly, and knowledgable. We will stay here again the next time we are in San Francisco. They were very generous with their time, and very prompt in all communications. We stayed with two adults, two teens and one senior citizen. It worked well for everybody.
Alka and Brad are wonderful hosts. Alka is very warm and friendly. She offered so many helpful suggestions. She offered to drive us places if needed. The home had everything you could need or want. It was perfect for our family of 4. I have nothing negative to say about this experience or this property. We would definitely lok into staying there again if/when we return to SF.
Staying at Alka's house was a wonderful AIRBNB experience.
Alka is very nice host and willing to provide everything we need. As for the house, it is very clean and well-equipped. Also, the view from the window is perfect.
Thanks for Alka for providing us such a great place to stay in San Francisco.
I highly recommend Alka's place to stay if you want to visit San Francisco.
We had a great time at Brad & Alka's apartment! The apartment looks just like the pictures...it's very clean and bright and it was perfect for our stay in San Francisco.
Alka was incredibly helpful...she gave us tips on where to eat, how to get around, and she even gave us a mini tour of the area.
The full kitchen (stocked with basics) is perfect for making quick snacks or full meals (we usually had breakfast before leaving for the day). It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy some wine on the back patio.
I would definitely recommend this apartment!
Alka and Brad were the best hosts you could wish for. They made us feel at home, and gave us really good advice regarding what not to miss on our San Francisco visit. We highly recommend Alka and Brad as hosts for your SF visit.
My family and I stayed at this place for 3 nights. The apartment was exactly as described—beautifully decorated and very clean. The kitchen and the bathroom had everything we needed. We didn't have a chance to meet Brad but Alka was the sweetest host I've had! She took us to buy groceries upon our arrival and explained to us how to get around in the city with public transportation. She also showed my sister and me around the house. We loved this place and would definitely come back when we go to SF next time!

About the Host, Alka
We're happiest at home in San Francisco, which we share with two loving pups (Coco and Ubu). We've lived abroad in Italy, France, Haiti and India. We speak several languages and love meeting others whose adventures have taken them far and wide. The tastes of different cultures speak to us as does the unspoken bond all global travelers feel when they discover common ground around the world. We love our neighborhoods and stay involved in our community so we're current on where to sip a great latte, get a bite to eat, shop for wine or shoes, create art, rent bikes, and learn a little bit of local history.
