Our flat is in the Pigneto, a quaint and trendy area which is easily reached from Termini station. Either take the number 5 or 14 TRAM from right outside the station, or simply walk (some guests come here on foot pulling their trolley cases behind them!)
We are a Scottish-Italian family with a spare room (all our kids have left home to study or live abroad) so we have an empty nest!!
The guest room sleeps two. It has two single beds; one up on a split level sleeping area and one is downstairs (see photos).
(a third bed can be added if there are a group of three but email me first)
Look at my calendar as some periods/days may cost less than others depending on what day it is or what period of the year.
The flat is on the first floor.
We are welcoming (see reviews), know the city well, can tell you about good places to eat and how best to get around the city using the public transport system.
For 20 euros per person you can also enjoy a home made meal with us (bruschetta, pasta, second course, salad, wine, dessert and home made wine and liquors (limoncello, rose liquor) or whatever we are having!) Many of the ingredients we use are from our land in Puglia- wine, olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, fruit, jam, honey etc
Book evening meal by email before arriving or at breakfast time before going out for the day. Meals available only when we are in Rome. OFTEN WE ARE AWAY IN PUGLIA, IN WHICH CASE YOU HAVE THE PLACE TO YOURSELVES.
Shiatsu treatments are also available.
I also offer cooking classes- usually the day you stay for dinner- you decide what you want to learn to cook and eat and we make it together.
Breakfast can be do-it-yourself if you want to get up late or if I am away(I leave tea, coffee, biscuits, bread, home made jam or marmalade ect), or if I am here, and you wish breakfast between 7.30-9am, I am very happy to make breakfast an we can have it together and chat about your plans for that day. I can help you work out how to get from A to B (buses, places to visit, restaurants ect)
The area we live in is called "Pigneto" and is very near San Giovanni,Termini, the Colosseum and the historic city centre. However, the Pigneto is quickly becoming a very captivating area with lots of trendy places to eat, drink and listen to live music. There are interesting craft , jewellery and vintage shop. There is also a great flea market one Sunday a month in the pedestrian precinct round the corner from the flat.
Every morning there is an open market selling fruit, veg and clothes. It is a great place to buy typical Italian food and see how Italians shop for their fruit and veg!
Our flat has only one bathroom so the more people, the less time you get!! Bathroom has bath and shower.
The room provides everything a comfortable bedroom/study should have- comfortable bed, big armchair, desk and comfy stools, wardrobe, full length mirrror, street maps and tourist information. We provide towels too.
We also offer free wi-fi internet connection.
PLEASE EMAIL ME if you have any queries, but WAIT FOR MY REPLY BEFORE BOOKING. I usually answer within a few hours.
We will be happy to welcome you to our little home.
Should also say...we have two chihuahuas too! They are both quiet (apart from the initial greeting on arrival!!), sweet-natured, and well behaved.
IN AUGUST THE FLAT IS AVAILABLE FOR THE WHOLE MONTH ONLY (LONG LET RENTAL) CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SPENDING A MONTH IN ROME.
Guests have their own bedroom and share the bathroom. They can put food and drinks in fridge but cannot use the kitchen.
When I am here I usually see my guests at breakfast time and when they come home I like to ask how their day has been and if they need any help with their plans for the following days. I am often not at home in Rome as we go away many weekends to our place in the country in the south of Italy.
The Pigneto area is very near the historic centre of Rome but it has also a lot to offer, especially at night. The pedestrian area is full of cool wining and dining places and most have outdoor tables so you can people watch in comfort.
There are lots of ways to reach the centre- tram number 5 and 14, bus 105 and 81 and 810 and the underground is a few stops away by tram.
I enjoyed my stay in Rome and Iolanda's place. The hosts were absolutely welcoming and helpful. The apartment is located quite close to the city center and the regular bus pass by many attractions. The market which is around the corner is full of fresh and colourful fruits and vegetables. The last day of my stay Iolanda and her husband was away, but it was very nice of her to entrust her the apartment and let me leave my luggage at her place as my flight home was very (email hidden)e dogs are my absolute favourites ) I hope next time to get acquainted with the cat. Thanks for making me feel like at home!
Iolanda was simply a dream to stay with in Rome. I was only there for a short stay and found the sprawling city rather daunting on arrival. I'm sure without Iolanda's kindness and welcoming nature I would have left Rome feeling a bit unfulfilled. Always happy to hear stories about your day and share memories and stories of her travels and incredible family, Iolanda was a fresh and smiling face among a pool of unfamiliar ones. The house and room is delightfully homely and cosy and easily accessible from the main train station and top attractions. I have no doubt in my mind it will be the place I hope to stay in for my next visit. I truly recommend this home and while I continue my adventures around Europe I will definitely miss it.
Staying with Iolanda and Fred in their great little apartment in Pigneto was like staying with family of my own. I had a really wonderful stay here for seven days and it was ideal for a woman travelling alone. Iolanda and Fred are brilliant, full of warmth and stories about their life in Italy and Scotland, and they are great hosts who made me feel part of their lives for a short time. After discussing my plans over dinner on my first night they were able to give me lots of valuable suggestions of places to visit specific to my interests and I spent my days exploring Rome's architecture, art and ruins. In the evenings it was perfect to return home to a peaceful place to rest and reflect and discuss my day with Iolanda and Fred. I ate dinner with them a few times, with much lovely produce from their farm which was excellent - to learn about Italian cooking and eating rituals from Iolanda and then to taste it as well! Really delicious food, including the roman classic carbonara, a wild nettle and rocket pesto and a zingy salmon pasta, as well as lots of their own olives, wine, and delicious jams for breakfast in the morning. The other nights I had no trouble finding good food along the bustling main street round the corner. The apartment is great, colourful and quirky with its mezzanine levels, the room was perfect with a very comfy bed and I had everything I needed like towels and guide books. Of course it's wonderful to stay in a house with pets too, the lovely little chihuahuas Pepper and Baby always running around the kitchen. I got to try Shiatsu for the first time as well in a treatment from Iolanda which made me feel great, and I think sums up my time there - an energy centering experience of home life in Rome that was perfect to balance the intensity of exploring the amazing city. In Rome you need a place like this, to rest and reflect, and take stock of the riches you have seen. Would recommend wholeheartedly to everyone.
너무 친절한 최고의 호스트,
처음 만났지만 너무 친근한 Iolanda!
분위기 있는 복층 구조의 방,
시내에서 멀지 않은 위치,
다음에도 또 가고싶은 좋은곳 입니다! :)
Great host, cozy room, Good location,
it was great experience in Rome, hope come back soon!
lots of thanks!!!!!!!
I stayed at Iolanda’s place with my sister for 4 nights. We had a lovely time there and were able to practice our Italian as well as our English during breakfast time with Iolanda. We had a great and delicious dinner with the family one night (the home-made limoncello was top class !) and my sister had a shiatsu massage, that she really appreciated, by Iolanda. Our bedroom was cosy and the little loft was perfect for us. We were so tired at night that we slept very well. From Termini train station you take the tram 5 or 14 and then walk a short distance to via Macerata. There are some restaurants and bars on via Pigneto not far from the flat and we ate a delicious pizza with a bottle of wine. I have a cat at home and we loved Pepper and Baby who were very friendly.
I really enjoyed my stay with Iolanda and friends. Iolanda was a great host and a big help with guiding me on how to get around the city. Her pets are the best! The room is cozy and the location is close to the metro. It's just a short ride to all the main attractions.
I stayed at Iolanda's for two nights. I really enjoyed staying at her place, because it's a very warm place here (the house, the room, the pets and iolanda and her husband). We used to talk about many things, and Iolanda and her husband gave me some tips and good adresses to enjoy Rome. Also, Iolanda made me excellent breakfasts, and gave me some fruits and food when i went out in the day! I really enjoyed my stay here :) I also met their pets, their 2 dogs and cat, and this was my first experience sleeping with a cat haha :)
Really, thank you Iolanda for my stay at your home and i wish you good things in the future!
Sophia was very welcoming when I arrived and gave me all the information I needed about the area, which seemed very downmarket initially (sunday afternoon in a heatwave isn't the best time anywhere), but everything livened up in the evening. Everyone (at the cafe where I had a drink, and the delightful pizzeria) was very friendly.

Unfortunately I was unable to meet the whole family, but the impression and the hospitality that dear Sophia gave me was brilliant. A "home away from home" is a perfect description, complete with many a photo of the beautiful family in whose home you are staying! Right on hip Pigneto, super easy transport to termini and beyond, everything about this stay was IDEAL.
I only wish I would've stayed longer.
Iolanda wasn't at the house when I arrived, nor her husband. She was in Scotland and he was in southern Italy but her daughter, Sophia, was there to greet me! I arrived late because of a plane delay, so I got there at almost midnight. The area did seem a bit dodgy, there was graffiti everywhere and it was quite loud. Once I was inside Sophia gave me keys and a map she had drawn. I was kind of looking forward to the dinner that would have been provided for 20 euros because I have never been to Rome. Overall the house was very clean, kind of smelled like cat litter in the bathroom but no big deal. It was loud however. You can hear people on the street and at the pubs around the corner, and cars, till about 130-2 in the morning. You can also hear people around 8 am starting to work and whatnot.
This was my first airbnb stay and overall I'd give it an 8/10. Sophia was very nice though and for just staying in Rome for two nights it worked just fine for me!!
