Our flat is in the Pigneto, a quaint and trendy area which is easily reached from Termini station. Either take the number 5 or 14 TRAM from right outside the station, or simply walk (some guests come here on foot pulling their trolley cases behind them!)
We are a Scottish-Italian family with a spare room (all our kids have left home to study or live abroad) so we have an empty nest!!
The guest room sleeps two. It has two single beds; one up on a split level sleeping area and one is downstairs (see photos).
(a third bed can be added if there are a group of three but email me first)
Look at my calendar as some periods/days may cost less than others depending on what day it is or what period of the year.
The flat is on the first floor.
We are welcoming (see reviews), know the city well, can tell you about good places to eat and how best to get around the city using the public transport system.
For 20 euros per person you can also enjoy a home made meal with us (bruschetta, pasta, second course, salad, wine, dessert and home made wine and liquors (limoncello, rose liquor) or whatever we are having!) Many of the ingredients we use are from our land in Puglia- wine, olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, fruit, jam, honey etc
Book evening meal by email before arriving or before going out for the day. Meals available only when we are in Rome. OFTEN WE ARE AWAY IN PUGLIA, IN WHICH CASE YOU HAVE THE PLACE TO YOURSELVES.
Shiatsu treatments are also available.
I also offer cooking classes- usually the day you stay for dinner- you decide what you want to learn to cook and eat and we make it together.
We no longer offer breakfast, but there is a great cafe downstairs.
I am very happy to chat about your plans for each day and help you work out how to get from A to B (buses, places to visit, restaurants ect)
The area we live in is called "Pigneto" and is very near San Giovanni,Termini, the Colosseum and the historic city centre. However, the Pigneto is quickly becoming a very captivating area with lots of trendy places to eat, drink and listen to live music. There is a flea market one Sunday a month in the pedestrian precinct round the corner from the flat.
Every morning there is an open market selling fruit, veg and clothes. It is a great place to buy typical Italian food and see how Italians shop for their fruit and veg!
Our flat has only one bathroom so the more people, the less time you get!! Bathroom has bath and shower. (Please have short showers)
The room provides everything a comfortable bedroom/study should have- comfortable bed, big armchair, desk and comfy stools, wardrobe, full length mirrror, street maps and tourist information. We provide towels, small iron and hairdryer too.
We also offer free wi-fi internet connection.
PLEASE EMAIL ME if you have any queries. I usually answer within a few hours.
We will be happy to welcome you to our little home.
Should also say...we have three chihuahuas too! They are both quiet (apart from the initial greeting on arrival!!), sweet-natured, and well behaved. (most of the time)....and of course we have Elektra, our Calico cat!
IN AUGUST THE FLAT IS AVAILABLE FOR THE WHOLE MONTH ONLY (LONG LET RENTAL) CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SPENDING A MONTH IN ROME.
Guests have their own bedroom and share the bathroom. They can keep food and drinks in fridge but cooking in the kitchen is not permitted.
Interaction with Guests
When I am here I usually see my guests when they get up and when they come home in the evening. I like to ask how their day has been and if they need any help with their plans for the following days. I am often away at weekends at our place in the country in the south of Italy. In this case my daughter looks after things.
The Pigneto area is very near the historic centre of Rome but it has also a lot to offer, especially at night. The pedestrian area is full of cool wining and dining places and most have outdoor tables so you can people watch in comfort.
There are lots of ways to reach the centre- tram number 5 and 14, bus 105 and 81 and 810 and the underground is a few stops away by tram.
No cooking in kitchen.
Very lovely host. Everyone is very nice and friendly in this family. Read that its gonna be noisy. But never heard anything. Super quite. Nice cat of course and cute dogs. Thank you for your kindness! Recommend to everyone!
Iolanda was very hospitable! she waited up for me because my flight arrived very late and showed me good authentic restaurants in the area. Her apartment was really close to the tram but you can really walk to all the main touristy things. Loved her cat and dogs as well!
Warmherziger Empfang, sehr nette, angenehme und unkomplizierte Gastgeber-Familie. Sehr gutes Bett! Ort zentral gelegen und gut verbunden. Ich habe mich wohl gefühlt.
I was unlucky to have got stuck in the tram during the rush hours from the main train station. I ended up having to walk a distance with my luggage to lolanda's house. It was a nice neighbourhood with restaurants and bars. But the area was noisy at night and a little hard to sleep. And also the main station Roma Termini is quite a distance away.
Lolanda is friendly even more her cat ;) I did a shiatsu session and was relaxing. She recommended a restaurant for fish and was nice.
This was a great experience. The entire family is welcoming and caring (including the pets). They checked in on my day and shared conversation and advice. I got to spend time with the cat too!! Lolanda and Fred went to their country home for the weekend so I didn't get to spend as much time with them as I would've liked. Sophie was great company and helped me plan my days. She drew me some amazingly fantastic maps.
The apartment is clean and warm. It is easily to get to/from by bus or tram. The neighborhood is gritty and trendy all at the same time. There are hipster kids hanging out around all the trendy bars and restaurants. If you're familiar with NYC, the New York Times calls it the Brunswick of Rome.
Lolanda and Fred were wonderf hosts, Fred is so gentle and polite and Lolanda is refreshing and hilarious. What a fantastic combination !!! I thoroughly enjoyed their company. The location is outside of the city centre but the centre is easily reached by #5 or # 14 tram. The location livens up quite a bit at night and is worth venturing out to try the many bars and restaurants along the pedestrian strip. The best Indian food is at Darjeeling restaurant!!! You have to try it!!!! Not much to do during the day in the neighbourhood but at night it is very cool. I was fortunate enough to have Electra (the cat) sleep with me in the evenings but if you are not a cat person just shut the door and she leaves you alone. The apartment is eclectic and cozy and Lolanda is ready in the morning to make your coffee for you and chat! I fact Lolanda and I had a fabulous evening out on the town and became fast friends!!! I felt like her and I were long lost sisters.
Great welcome from everyone including the cat! Very glad I opted for a meal, very tasty using a lot of home-grown products. I really enjoyed chatting with my hosts. Only 4 tram stops from the main station. A great experience thanks to Iolanda.
Our Rome flat is in the Pigneto area. It is on the first floor(no lift).
The room sleeps 2. There are two single beds: one downstairs and one on a raised sleeping level.
The Pigneto has become very trendy over the last 5 years, but it is still distinctly Italian and it is very near and well connected to the city centre (10-20 minutes by bus (phone number hidden) by Tram 14 /5 and by underground). It is also possible to walk to and from Termini.
Round the corner from our flat, every morning, in the pedestrian area there is an open market and in the evening, wine bars, pubs, pizzerias, restaurants and unusual shops open up there for business.
Our flat is bright, colourful, perhaps even quirky, but it is comfortable and we have wi-fi too.
I am a Shiatsu Therapist. I live in Rome most of the year but spend the summer in Scotland and many weekends in Puglia where my husband and I work the family land, a little vineyard and olive grove- we make enough wine and olive oil for our own needs.
We have 3 daughters and a variety of pets. Now all three of our daughters have flown the nest. Sophia, our youngest daughter, is at University In the UK (BA Sculpture) .
By choosing to stay with us you will be helping to finance Sophia's studies....so please come and stay!
