Interaction with Guests
We are a household of three: a retired couple, Brad and Pat, and middle aged housemate Joe. We're friendly and quiet, happy to tell you about the city and the neighborhood, and have good conversations over a cup of tea.
We are in the historic Powelton Village section of West Philadelphia, just north of the Drexel Campus. The neighborhood has many large Victorian homes built in the 1860s and smaller homes like ours built in the 1890s.
This is the best neighborhood for getting around! We are within 1 1/2 blocks of three bus lines. 10 minute walk to Market Frankford Subway, to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, to the Riverwalk along the Schuylkill River. 15 minute walk to 30th Street Station and a Megabus. Near the Spring Garden exit of the Schuylkill Expressway. Easy door-to-door limo from the airport.
No smoking or pets. Turn off auxiliary heat when you go out for the day.
Brad and Pat were each and together very warm, thoughtful, accommodating hosts. I thoroughly enjoyed their conversation, lively interest, and unaffected manner. Housemate Joe is also very interesting; together they know a lot about Philadelphia. They allowed me to store a piece of luggage several hours on each end of my scheduled visit. Location is convenient to UPenn, Drexel, 30th St Station... I walked almost everywhere I needed to go--and Philadelphia was in full bloom. The room is simple, quite adequate for me and fine for some couples too--roomier than photo suggests, with the bed now rotated 90 degrees.
I was taking my USMLE step 2 CS exam and found this listing to be very close to the place the exam is given. Brad provided me the detailed information on how to get to his house, along with assistance on parking and reassurance that the area is safe at anytime. It is indeed a good area, with many students and places to hang out.
Brad and Pats room #2 Near Drexel University in West Philadelphia.
Prior to this I had two bad experiences with airbnb, Brad and Pat have redeemed the service.
The hosts were very accommodating as earlier reviews had said. I had to arrive late due to travel plans. Brad waited for me and personally escorted me to a safe on street parking place and we walked back to the house together. Room was tiny but quite adequate for my needs. They are talking about upgrading the bedding but I found the bed very comfortable, the covers were snugly and warm. A high light was: lots of well located electrical outlets. I was able to charge my phone and tablet and easily use my CPAP. WI-FI was fine and password was readily available. Bathroom was warm and there was lots of hot water and a quaint craw foot tub. All in all a good value for the cost.
They were very helpful with directions and suggestions. I was attending a convention, I spent 4 nights and was very busy but I was able to spend an evening chatting with them about everything from soup to nuts. They are very neat people. I enjoy walking and using public transportation on trips like this. They have two nearby bus lines that give access to the center city. One plus was that since I am 65+, I was able to use my “geezer card” to ride on the buses. This is similar to a system found in Ireland and extends to all in the category. (Check out Philadelphia public transportation and fares.) I would definitely return.
Cordially, John from upstate NY.
It was a pleasure to meet and stay with Brad, Pat and Joe. They were very thoughtful. Highly recommend!
A warm friendly couple, are Brad and Pat. Their home felt like comfortable old slippers, well-worn in and very relaxing. I spent hours in conversation and could have spent many more. Brad seemed genuinely interested and enthusiastic to hear about my travels and experiences. Pat enlightened me as to the openness of the Quaker religion. Their house is located in close proximity, that is walking distance, to the 30th St station and to the Market St subway. It was quiet and everything worked well after a little orientation. It is also situated right next to Drexel University. I have a good memory of being there.
Brad and Patricia have been great hosts. They have been very welcoming, cordial, helpful and provided me all the information before arrival. The place was as described and perfectly located from major attractions. I had good time visiting Philadelphia and would recommend a stay with them.
This is my second time to stay in his house. Everything was good. He responded my questions very quickly. Easy check-in, easy check-out, nothing was troublesome.

For many years we have hosted guests attending meetings of national Quaker organizations. Now we're branching out and trying airbnb. We look forward to getting to know you.
