Daniel is a great host and his house is a very nice place in one of the great resorts on Earth! His communication in advance of arrival was great; his neighbors who helped out (Rik and Sandra) were great and tremendously helpful; we had a great holiday in France, but there were some shortfalls to the residence that detracted from our stay.
Positives: availability, value, location, fantastic, large patio, size of the house, Nespresso machine! The house was available for the dates we wanted at a price we were happy to pay and made a pleasant base of operations. The patio was a great, comfortable place to begin and end the days and the neighborhood was mostly quiet and tranquil. The neighbors were very pleasant people and, but for the few negatives, this was a great place to stay. The Nespresso machine was an added treat--we packed in our own coffee and save perhaps over 100 Euros drinking Nespresso rather than going to the cafe for our caffeine fix--especially given the absence of a kettle. It was very good!
The cons. Three things: the air conditioning, the shower, and the absence of bath towels. One of the foremost reasons we chose this house was it had air conditioning, yet the aircon worked at best as a fan on low speed and did nothing to make the flat more comfortable (it was 30 deg C plus every day we were there) and there was no additional fan in the flat. We could not sleep anywhere other than in the futon in the lounge, directly under the aircon unit as it was unbearably hot (yes, we are from a cooler climate and not used to the heat, but the mezzanine, as lovely as it was stifling and unlivable). As a result, we were forced to restrict ourselves to the very front of the house and the patio. The shower opened at most about 25cm--it was like a squeegee getting in and out--very unpleasant and uncomfortable as well as constant fears that we were going to break the doors. The shower has been noted in many previous reviews and we echo the sentiment. We understand the desire not to want the house towels to go to the beach, but having no bath towels--not even a hand towel--was difficult.
There are loads of pros about Daniel's house that offset most of the cons--the house was spotlessly clean, relatively well appointed, amazing location and safe due to the nighttime locks on the area. And quiet--you were assured of minimal environmental noise that ensured a good night's rest. Had the aircon worked better and we knew to bring bath towels, to us, this would have been a five-star stay.
We would absolutely recommend this house to others.
