DIRECTIONS FROM AIRPORT (by bus, 5 euro)
Get out from the arrivals building through gate 3 or 4 and turn right. The bus stops very near gate 4 which will be to your right. As you walk toward the bus (X95) you will see a ticket selling booth where you must buy your bus ticket. When you get in the bus put it through the cancelling machine. Tell the driver that you want to get off at Ethniki Amyna. It takes about 30-35 minutes, and it is not the final stop so you have to make sure the driver remembers you. To be on the extra safe side ask one of the passengers too. Unfortunately no one is calling out the stops and the bus stops only if someone wants to get off. It is all right though if you remind the driver after 20-25 minutes. Give me a call when on the bus so I know your time of arrival. If I can (most of the times) I will be there after 3-4 minutes to pick you up. Otherwise you take one of the taxis waiting at the bus stop. The distance is about one km and the charge 3-4 euros.
2) DIRECTIONS FROM PIREUS PORT
Piraeus (from which boats depart for most islands) Take train, get off at MONASTIRAKI, change to the airport line, direction airport, get off ETHNIKI AMYNA, (exit called MINISTRY of DEFENSE), call me . If I can (most of the times) I will be there after 3-4 minutes to pick you up. Otherwise you take one of the taxis waiting at the bus stop. The distance is about one km and the charge is 3-4 euros.
Interaction with Guests
I will be happy to help you with anything to make your stay smooth and pleasant. I can provide you with information pertaining to many archaeological sites and give you tips to help you make choices......
The neighbourhood is green and therefore relatively cool in summer. The air is cleaner than downtown, it is much more quiet and at the same time it is easy to get to the city centre in a few minutes.. There is a nice park with cafeteria/ restaurant at five minutes' walk.
The house is close to public transport. You can catch a bus right next to it to take you to the Ethniki Amyna metro station, or you can walk there (12 min). At Ethniki Amyna there is the metro (underground) as well as several buses to take you to city centre or to beaches (and also a direct bus/subway from/to the Athens airport).
Other Things to Note
If you come from the airport by bus (recommended, as it costs only 5 euro and is as fast as any other means, i.e. 35 minutes) you get off at the Ethniki Amyna stop and I will be happy to pick you up there. In case I can't, you get one of the taxis waiting outside the station. Cost is the minimum charge, 3-4 euro.
Please put any article that you use back to the same place.
Elly is a gracious host. She was prompt with her response to all my queries, kind enough to let us leave our luggage back at her place when we went to the islands, and also drove us to the bus station and the metro station on two ocassions. Her house is nestled in a beautiful garden and is close to the metro station, on the airport line -- it is easy to get to the airport, or to Monastriaki from where you can get to the port. Enjoyed my stay with Elly and highly reccommend it.
This was our first time in Athens. Elly is a wonderful host and her home a quiet respite between busy and exciting visits to all the sites. Elly is helpful, flexible and fun.
We contacted Elly fairly close to date and received an enthusiastic response. When we outlined what we intended to do, Athens and Meteora Elly offered to look into it for us.
We followed Elly's instructions on arrival. We texted her, took the X95 bus and got off at the stop as instructed and she was there to meet us.
Our room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The house was cool, shady and quiet. This was a very different Athens from the noise and hustle of city centre. To get to the city we walked about 1 km and then bought an all day subway pass and made our way around.
Elly made phone calls of enquiry for us and assisted us to purchase tickets for Meteora and employ Nikos a local taxi driver, who took us around Meteora to see 5 monastries.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Elly and found her home to be a sanctuary from the turmoil of Athens.
I stayed with Elly two nights. She is such a lovely, warm woman and will do her best to make you feel comfortable and at home. I had my own room (which was very clean) and bathroom (which was also very clean), and high speed wifi. My flight arrived at 1 am and Elly stayed up waiting for me to get to her place. In the morning she offered me breakfast as well. She gave me tips about different places to explore and eat, and even gave me a map and took the time to explain different places on the map/explained the metros. The day I left, Elly and her brother were able to drive me to the bus stop to catch the bus to the port. Overall I would definitely stay with Elly again! She is such a pleasant woman and is so hospitable. She definitely helped make my experience is Athens a great one! Thank you again Elly! 3
Elly is a very sweet and wonderful woman. Her home is incredibly peaceful, so if you are looking to party, you might consider staying where all the tourists stay. I needed peace, so this was exactly what I needed and wanted for the end of a really blissful trip. The cat and two dogs were a wonderful treat, too.
Also, Piu Verde, just a couple of blocks away, is a garden restaurant and cocktail garden that I would never have gone to if I hadn't been for the fact that I was staying at this location. Almost no one spoke English there, so it was a nice, authentic, place to chill out.
I had my best nights rest at Elly's. She has a roomy place with everything you need to be comfortable. She was extremely helpful with directions and a pleasure to talk with after a long trip. She even fed me breakfast and lunch! Her neighborhood is beautiful and has easy access to the port and airport for cheap. I would absolutely stay with her again!
Elly was the greatest :)
The room was perfect for what we needed and her house is not extremely far from the city, so you miss the noise of the city but you are in the centre of town in a short amount of time.
Sadly we did not see Elly very much as we were doing the tourist thing in Athens (as you do when visiting a city) but we did have a nice breakfast one morning with some time to chat.
Elly was very friendly and extremely helpful.
I hope to visit her again one day :)
