Your Hosts, Kees and Griselda, welcome you to Monte Terras B&B and Cabinas and to beautiful Costa Rica. We are close to the Monteverde Cloud forest, Rincon de la Vieja, Rio Celeste and Tenorio volcano, Arenal volcano, several hotsprings, and of course lake Arenal itself.
The cabins are situated in a beautiful garden where it’s nice and quiet. Simply enjoy the view, the birds and squirrels will keep you company.

Kees greeted us with a smile, a handshake and some refreshing (email hidden)/dining house he had built himself! He showed us to our room behind the main house and was helpful with dinner suggestions within a short distance; we ended up eating at a local Tico diner, and the food was delicious and incredibly affordable.
Our room and bed were very comfortable, and the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The weather was windy and rainy for most of our stay, which made having a nice room to come to that much more special! The breakfast was brought to the room and was delicious; wonderful choices and great service.
While we found our way to the property without any problem by entering the coordinates Kees gave into our GPS, other guests had difficulties finding the location. Kees, however, was extremely helpful with this, and even picked up or drove guests around for dinner if needed.
Friendly welcome by a Dutch-Costa Rican couple who brought us an excellent breakfast to our cabin with a smile. The cabins are situated inmidst of a garden in well-preserved nature and there are many birds. Thank you for a lovely stay!
We drove to Lake Arenal in the evening after landing in San Jose. It was about a three hour drive. The location of the hotel listed on AirBNB is completely inaccurate, it's located around here ((website hidden)(phone number hidden)z).
Type in the name of the hotel once you're in Tronadora and it'll find it.
After being completely lost twice and with help of the locals we finally got there. Although we didn't get to talk much to Kees, he seems to be a very nice, genuine guy. Offered me a beer after the long drive to relax.
The property itself is very well maintained, bed was comfortable. View of the lake is spectacular. There were some bugs in the unit, but didn't really bother us.
Not sure how we would have made it to this B&B without our GPS! But when we arrived after dark Kees was there to greet us.
The room was clean and comfortable. This place is designed with Europeans in mind and in the bathroom there are two outlets; one indicating 220V. I didn't realize what this meant and fried my hair dryer my first day.
There are no TV's in the room, which was fine with me, although my husband would have preferred one. Also, the WiFi was very sporadic and slow when we could get a signal.
We took up a lot of Kees time asking about the area and he was very patient answering all of our questions, and those of the other guests as well. He is very knowledgeable about the area and an impressive craftsman. The breakfasts were delicious and preordered the night prior. The view was beautiful but unfortunately it was cloudy the entire time we were there, so we did not get to see the volcano.
The only real drawbacks to this B&B are the precarious roads and poor WiFi reliability.
It was a lovey, clean, quiet place to rest our heads after full days off activities that the area has to offer. Kees is very help full and knowledgeable about the area and things to do and how to get there. The breakfast delivered to our room was a great way to start the day. You can also arrange for your supper meals that are home made and very tasty!
Wonderful host! Beautiful vIews! Clean, well-appointed studios! We had some problems with shower drainage and email access, but Kees was helpful and they were solved quickly.
Wow! I'm not sure if I will be able to put into words what a wonderful host and place this was. Kees gave us the best directions (which are priceless when traveling in Costa Rica) upon arriving at his place, immediately you notice the breathtaking view of Lake Arenal. Knowing that we had a very long drive to his place Kees instantly invited us into his (self-made!) dining/lounge area for beers. It had giant windows so we could keep enjoying the view and great conversation. He showed us shortly after to our room. It was beautiful. It's set back in a private garden, high ceilings, wonderful kitchen with a stocked fridge, dining area, the best bed I had laid on in the 2 weeks traveling in Costa Rica, and a shower with HOT WATER!!!(heated water is very rare and this was the only place where I wasn't shivering after a shower!) In the room there was a map of the neighborhood, as well as a book signed by previous guests with suggestions of things to do. If we had any questions whatsoever, Kees was there with help. I hope I'm lucky enough to stay here again sometime.
In the year 2005 I burned all my bridges in the Netherlands, my native country, and came to Costa Rica to start a B&B and Cabins called "Monte Terras" at Lake Arenal. In my new homeland I met and married a local girl, Griselda and today we run the B&B together. Since 2005 I also organize tours throughout Costa Rica with great succes. I decided to start my own travel agency in 2010, named Rich Coast Travel. I do believe that no matter how wonderful a place can be, a local expert will help you make the most of it. I can bring that extra dimension to your travel experience!
My mission: to provide travelers with a comfortable place at Lake Arenal, where they can relax and enjoy nature.
As we say here in Costa Rica: Pura Vida!
