About this listing
One room in a three bedroom house near the french quarter/marigny. contains a full size bed and a futon. Authentic new orleans experience. Excellent location. Feel free to ask me any questions! I have central air and wifi.
This listing is for a second story walk-through room of a three bedroom home. It is more affordable than my other second-story listing, because as a shotgun, there are no hallways in my home and other guests may occasionally be walking through your space to use the shared bathroom and kitchen. There are, however, curtains in the doorways for some privacy, and a door between the two guest rooms. The room comes with clean linens and bedding as well as clean towels, and has a closet available for your use. There is a full-size bed as well as a full-size futon and a dresser with a large mirror.
The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use.
Interaction with Guests
I or my roommate Alice will greet you at the door to show you the house and give you a key. You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.
I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
I look forward to meeting you!!
My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.
Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.
Other Things to Note
My house includes multiple guest rooms, and it is very possible that you will meet other travelers during your stay. If you come in a large group, keep in mind that the single bathroom can at times be highly sought-after. To repeat: There is another Airbnb listing my home, if you are concerned about the number of guest sharing one bath please ask me about this before you book.
No racism, sexism, homophobia etc. will be tolerated.
If guests wish to have additional people overnight Lawrence must be consulted, and this is generally discouraged.
Ask before adjusting the AC.
If you encounter any problem, please talk to me so that we can find a solution immediately. I want your stay to be a good one!
Feel free to come home at any time of day/night.
Remember that this city is a diverse and swampy one. Wildlife you may encounter: palmetto bugs, drunk people, stray kitties. Please don't bring any of them home :)
Really close to the French quarter and a great stay. Definitely a great place for the money. I didn't have a problem with contacting or arrival with the hosts, they were great and recommended a place to stay, only problem was there cat waking us up at 5 am, running jumping around us for a long time.
We didn't get to meet Lawrence personally, but his housemates were very warm and welcoming! The location is just a short walk from the French Quarter, and Pauger Street that the house is on leads straight into Bourbon Street!
Lawrence was prompt and understanding. Good location. Walking distance to most things. Have to be a cat lover to be in the apartment.
I don't think it's fair to call this a "private room." It's not actually a room. It's an exposed, upstairs loft space separated from the rest of the house with two bed sheets hung on clothes lines--not a door. After looking more closely at the listing, Lawrence does call it a "second-story walk through," so perhaps it's not disingenuous. But while you expect the actual appearance of a house/apartment to differ from photos, there's a divide between the brightly-lit interior of the photos and the dingy, dark look of the interior. The sheets we were given also felt pretty unclean. And while I like cats, what you basically have here are four feral felines. They're cute, but when you don't have your own space, they can be a bit of a nuisance. The location is good and all, as is the price, but all of this needs to be known. If you're looking for a "private room," this isn't it.
All sheets are laundered between guests, of course. Kittens can be quite a handful, it's true. I've found homes for them at this point. I agree that people really need to read the description and reviews on this room, I'm not trying to trick anybody, it's a walk through! that's why it's so cheap! Of course with the curtains drawn the room isn't as bright as it is with them open. If guests are looking for privacy I suggest one of the other listings.
The neighborhood was great for walking and proximal to French Quarter destinations. The listing was reasonably accurate but photos do not show that a curtain separates the bed and futon from the rest of the room. Even though the listing explains that this is a walk-through room, the curtain is very low and does not afford much privacy. We would have liked to meet Lawrence, but instead encountered other guests/friends and residents. There were three kittens, which was a pleasant surprise.
I had a wonderful time during my stay! I never met Lawrence but I did meet his roommate who was very nice. We were greeted at the door, given a tour of the place and made feel very welcome. I loved the fact we could come and go as we pleased. It was extremely quiet and relaxing. It was affordable, private, and close to all the spots you want to visit in new Orleans! It's also in walking distance of Bourbon. I have no complaint what so ever! I would def stay again!
I did not meet Lawrence but his roommate was quite helpful with recommendations and made check in very easy. The room was clean and the house close to the French Quarter!

About the Host, Lawrence
My name is Lawrence. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and have been here in New Orleans for six or so years. I tend to spend my time bicycling, crafting leather work, and out and about in New Orleans. I can often be found at the Karaoke bar around the corner; once in a while I'll even sing a song. I usually attempt to make sure to invite guests out with me if I'm dong anything interesting, but I also spend a decent amount of time staying in. I enjoy playing board games and card games regularly. I generally don't eat animals, but don't have a problem with guests doing so.
