The Space

Hi! I'm Lawrence-- local fashion/costume designer, resident of five years of the down-to-earth and widely diverse New Marigny neighborhood, and I'm excited to share my city with you!

This listing is for the walk-through room of a three bedroom home. It is more affordable than my other listings, because as a shotgun, there are no hallways in my home and people may occasionally be walking through your space to use the shared bathroom and kitchen. There are, however, curtains in the doorways for some privacy. The room comes with clean linens and bedding, and has a closet available for your use. There is a twin bed and a sleeper sofa in the room, as well as an antique desk available for your use.

Guest Access

The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use.

Interaction with Guests

You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.

I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

I look forward to meeting you!!

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.

Getting around

Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.

  • I don't actually stay there as i'm just helping my friend to book the room. But he did told me fondly about his short stay at Lawrence's so i thought i should share. Lawrence is a very nice, easy going and generous guy who goes out of his way to accommodate to request. likewise for his housemate. cat lovers will love snack, the little devil. i'v seen photos of snack taken by my friend and it looks really adorable!

  • The place was nice located. Near the French quarter. Lawrence gave US privacy even if we were in the room without doors. But, it was not as clean as we expected overall in the bathroom.

  • Lawrence was a perfect gentleman and provided a lot of fantastic ideas for activities we could do while staying in New Orleans. His place needs some work and cleaning but the location is great.

  • We had a great time! The house is in great condition for its age, the neighborhood is charmingly sleepy and only minutes away from the best spots in town. Lawrence is an excellent host and a creative wonder to boot. I was really impressed by the whole experience - enough to come back a week later! I am already looking forward to a third visit....

  • Great place to stay. Lawrence was great about his correspondences. And the bed was very comfortable.

  • You do not wait has a human meeting, contrary what says has announces. Nor has a house cordial, luminous and clean, the photographs are misleading. On the other hand the price is perfect and the house is super good placed. The two rooms top are luminous and you can air them, what is proves util, has to take preferably has that of return fitted which is more than crossing. This difficil to use the kitchen the morning becose it is concurrently to parts without door or of people sleep. Go there for the site and the price.

I think this is my favorite review yet, though I have no idea what it is trying to say.

  • Lawrence (email hidden), easy going and has put a lot of thought into hosting. Clean and neat, with ample bedding/towels. Easy access to bus line. Get the $3 day pass and go anywhere. Short walk to Frenchman Street and the Quarter. Well worthwhile.

  • I had a great stay at Lawrence's. He was very communicative which was really helpful since I had to book on short notice. He was well informed about the local events that were going on while I was there. His apartment is about an 8 minute walk to the center of Frenchmen St, where all the great music venues are located, and that was a huge plus. As a solo traveler I also appreciated the shared house atmosphere and being able to meet the other guests that were there. Thanks again for everything Lawrence!

  • Stayed in the hallway room. Not very private (as advertised of course), but if you're comfortable in that situation I thought it was a great, cheap way to stay and would do it again. 15 minute walk to Marigny and the French Quarter.

My name is Lawrence. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and have been here in New Orleans for six or so years. I tend to spend my time bicycling, crafting leather work, and out and about in New Orleans. I can often be found at the Karaoke bar around the corner; once in a while I'll even sing a song. I usually attempt to make sure to invite guests out with me if I'm dong anything interesting, but I also spend a decent amount of time staying in. I enjoy playing board games and card games regularly. I generally don't eat animals, but don't have a problem with guests doing so.
