Tokyo Loft (Shibuya/ Nakameguro)

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Aobadai, Meguro, Tokyo 153-0042, Japan

The Space

Spacious and airy 45 square meter rustic studio loft in old retro concrete 1960's building.

1 minute from Meguro river (famous beautiful spot for viewing the cherry blossoms in the springtime). 10 minute walk to Naka Meguro station, 10 minute walk to Daikanyama station, 15 minute walk to Shibuya.

Very quiet street situated between 2 parks in an excellent location.

One whole wall south facing (very sunny) floor to ceiling old cast iron sliding window doors on to balcony.

Equip with fully functional kitchen (for those who like cooking), washing machine, high speed wifi (fibre optic unlimited bandwidth), wide plank rustic hard wood floors, and queen size bed with king down duvet.

High ceilings. Private top floor corner apartment, loads of natural light on a very quiet street. Just minutes away from funky cafes, bars restaurants, boutiques in one of Tokyos trendiest neighborhoods. (Area often featured in Wallpaper and Monocle Magazines.)

High speed fiber optic wireless internet inclusive. For those who want additional portable wifi connectivity options with smart phones or tablets, we recommend setting up an account with "wi2"(just do a web search for "wi2" and click on the english site for pricing, speed/plans and payment info). This is a city wide pay service wifi system that is generally much faster than portable wifi devices at a fraction the price of renting one. You can connect pretty much anywhere in Tokyo and many locations nation wide. Very convenient!

Perfect for people who want charming, rustic and arty accommodation in the heart of Tokyo. Great alternative to the sometimes very small and stuffy Tokyo apartment hotels. Price inclusive of all utilities. For single occupancy or couples.

**Please note, this is an old, no frills building preserved in its eclectic style. Although this flat is very charming for many, people who are looking for something newly built with high tech amenities- this may not be for you.

**Although totally central, the neighborhood is super quiet and best suits chilled out people who respect this vibe. As this is not a hotel, we prefer to rent to people who treat the place well and respect it as if it was their own home.

  • Not only was John super helpful and efficient in his explanations, but the place we stayed at was lovely! Its a great location, it's beautiful, and John's place is certainly a unique atmosphere to go back (home) to.

We visited 4 awesome neighborhoods by foot for our one-night stay, so you definitely can say youre getting your worth in.

    Thank you!

  • Very nice and comfortable room in pretty cool 60ies building. Very good location in Nakameguro/Daikanyama area. Close to nice little park with playground and close to river with all the cherry blossoms. I did not meet John in person but everything worked out very smoothly so a great host indeed.

  • Tokyo loft is a very lovely place to stay in Tokyo. it located at the heart of the Tokyo very easliy go out to see the Tokyo. And I am very happy it's very near from Daikanyama:) very cozy and neat place. You could also enjoy nice terrace view and just simple Japan style house :)

  • On the plus side, the loft layout gives a feeling it is very big (especially according to Tokyo standards...). On the minus side, this is a very quaint apartment with no frills as John says in the listing. Even after carefully reading the explanations, we had a difficult time to get the shower working properly as an example.
The apartment is in a very quiet and residential neighborhood but there are some nice little shops and restaurant along the canal when you walk to the train station (Nakemeguro is a 10 minutes walk) or on the main street (Kyu Yamate Dori) while walking to Daikanyama (also a 10 minutes walk). Shibuya is quite far if you walk so you should use one of these two stations to go to the apartment. I would recommend to stay in this apartment if you want to get away from hectic Tokyo for a few nights and find some quiet place for a good price

    Response from John:

In response to a couple of the points here. The shower is one of the most high tech things in the flat. It is brand new, totally digital, and works fine. Nonetheless it still ceases to amaze me why a guest would not ask for our help in a situation like this. We would have done whatever possible to resolve it promptly. Also, for those considering our flat, the Naka Meguro area is like the Soho, Paddington or Le Marais or of Tokyo. Even though the neighborhood is very residential, it is FULL of some of the best bars, restaurants and boutiques in Tokyo. Lastly, Shibuya is a 15 minute walk from the flat. Each of the stations to go to Shibuya are 10 minutes and there are 2 bus stops with buses to Shibuya within 5 minutes that take 5 minutes to get to Shibuya. So the comment about Shibuya being quite far is not quite accurate. Think walking from the Montparnasse to St. Germain in Paris or from Soho to the West Village in NYC or from Liverpool St. Station to Hackney/Shoreditch in London. Far? Please check the (website hidden) map for a better perspective. Whoever reads this, the flat description and photos are totally accurate. Most of the amenities and not high tech, but please consider all these things against other Airbnb flat options and ask us as many questions as you like prior to booking. We only ever hope to find people that love our place as much as we do.

  • My husband and I truly enjoyed our 4-night stay in John's Nakameguro apartment. The flat is very spacious (especially by Tokyo standards), and quiet. There is no elevator but we are used to that, and it was not a problem for us at all. We loved the Nakameguro and nearby Daikanyama neighborhoods, and John's recommendations were very helpful. Being able to have a good soak in the ofuro at the end of a day of walking was wonderful. We'd love to stay there again. Thank you, John.

  • A great stay in the perfect neighbourhood. Note that the transport in the area is even better than I imagined as the tokyu toyoko line now runs directly through over the fukutoshin metro line (as of last year). Nice light in the flat and a nice rough industrial feel to the place.

  • John's apartment is lovely - I loved the quiet and quaint neighbourhood and the nice stroll through the river towards the subway station every morning. My partner and I stayed there and it was more than spacious enough for the two of us. We came from a 5-star hotel in Ginza and I must say I much preferred John's apartment. It gave us more space and a very refreshing, local feel. The bed and pillows were more comfortable too!

  • John's apartment is comfortable and charming. It's just a ten minute walk from Shibuya – incredibly convenient for anybody looking for a base to explore the city. There are a number of cool restaurants, cafés and shops very close by, too, as well as a small, picturesque park with a great view.

  • Johns sunny loft in Naka Meguro was everything he said it was! Spacious (for Tokyo) enough for my boyfriend & I who stayed there for the weekend. We also fell in love with the neighborhood of Naka Meguro, it is the CUTEST! Full of cute little local bars, restaurants & little boutiques. I will definitely stay here again next time!
