The cottage is a guest house of Barry & Laura, who live in a separate house on the property. The structures are distant enough to offer a sense of privacy while close enough for you to knock and ask if you are interested in restaurant recommendations (we're NYC transplants and foodies of sorts), directions, explanations about native plants or our garden, great running/hiking routes, or if you have questions about the cottage or the area in general.
In addition to being in close proximity to all the great Eugene offerings above, the cottage is just a half block from Eugene's historic Masonic Cemetery, where visitors can stroll the wild rose-lined paths and read about the notables who colored the town's vibrant history. It is also three blocks from Amazon park, which boasts fantastic running trails (Adidas & Rexius), tons of green and picnic space, a skate park, and fantastic outdoor pools (for the summer months).
Historic Hayward Field (where Steve Prefontaine ran to his glory) is less than a mile walk north down lovely University Street, where the trolley car used to carry folks to and from campus in days of yore. And, if you aim to explore fantastic hiking paths, we are only a few miles north of the Ridgeline Trail, which features an incredible vista from the summit of Spencer's Butte. The cottage is also in very near proximity to other local trails (Adidas, Rexius, Ribbon, Willamette Riverfront, Mt. Pisgah) for runners, hikers, and explorers of all levels.
And we are, of course, situated in the South Willamette Valley, which means you will also be well-positioned to explore some of the region's best wineries, or to make day-trips west to the Oregon Coast or east into the Cascade Range.
The cottage was constructed by a local design-build firm and its eco-friendly design has received coverage in the local press.

The open space and secluded nature of this cottage make it a nice hideaway in the midst of Eugene. It is a short walk away from a great deal of groceries stores, which might not be needed as their is a garden with fresh vegetables just outside your window, and a short drive away from downtown Eugene.
We had a great stay at the garden cottage, it was beautiful inside and out and in a great location. Had the chance to meet Laura and she gave us some ideas on things to do around town. The perfect place to stay in Eugene!
Such a cute cottage! The location was perfect for the marathon, as it was just a 1 mile walk to the start. The garden was beautiful and we enjoyed being able to pick fresh berries during our stay.
This was our second year to stay with Laura and Barry in a comfortable cottage on a quiet street a few blueberries to eat they are nice people with a garden growing at the door so for us this place has been a wonderful way to unwind after a day of hectic travel in the noise of traffic and crush of people.
We had a wonderful two night stay. The cottage is modern, well-planned out, clean and comfortable. The area surrounding the cottage is beautiful. Although we didn't get a chance to meet Laura we had a wonderful chat with Barry. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a great experience staying in the cottage. It is new, modern, yet rustic, and the garden is very pleasant and nicely landscaped. It is equipped with everything you might need on your stay. Nice neighborhood to walk around.
The only unexpected thing was that the bathroom does not have a sink - only the shower and the toilet, and you need to use the sink in the kitchenette right outside the bathroom, which is not a big thing, but you do have to keep your toiletries on the kitchenette counter. Overall, that would not change my derision on the cottage.
Laura and Barry's cottage was awesome! The listing was described perfectly and I plan on staying there again in the future, great place!
Barry and Laura are professionals living and working in lovely Eugene, Oregon. We moved from New York City nine years ago, and (contrary to our big-city-minded expectations) we have fallen in love with the Northwest.
We enjoy exploring new places, meeting and talking with people, and learning new perspectives on the world around us - both at home and through our travels in various parts of the world. As travelers, we seek an authentic experience and try to avoid the well-trodden path. Our Garden Cottage offers exactly this, which is why we are excited to welcome fellow travelers to stay with us in this private cottage on our property.
From our own experiences, we know different types of trips may lend themselves to different types of engagement with hosts. We try to create a welcoming, yet private environment for our guests. We can be as engaged or hands-off as you like.
In our leisure time, we enjoy cooking, hiking, gardening, and entertaining. Barry is an avid runner, swimmer, and biker. Laura is a crafter, musician, walker, and writer. We both received degrees from the University of Oregon and are dedicated fans of the Oregon Ducks.
We love to be of help and we invite your questions. We have had many wonderful experiences staying in other people's guest houses, many of which we found through Airbnb. We are excited to provide a home away from home for our guests and to share our beautiful garden. The South Willamette Valley is a vibrant, peaceful, and unique place. Our Garden Cottage is perfectly situated to explore all it has to offer and is a central location from which one can easily take a day trip to the coast or to the mountains, depending upon what suits you.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing our little slice of paradise in the Pacific Northwest.
