This custom-built modern cottage is located in the heart of lush and beautiful southeast Eugene. One mile south of the University of Oregon campus, the cottage is conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, markets, laundry, fantastic walking/biking paths, and most anything you might need.
The cottage sleeps two and features a queen-size Murphy bed with a very comfortable Serta mattress. If you've never slept on a bed that folds out of the wall, this is your chance!
Other features and amenities include:
- Kitchenette with half-size refrigerator, sink, microwave, Cuisinart automatic drip coffeemaker, electric kettle, toaster, dishes, glasses, and utensils
- Simple and lovely private bath with shower stall
- Lofted ceiling with skylights and tons of natural light
- Radiant floor heating (if you come during the winter months, your feet will love this)
- Ceiling fan
- Lovely views and shaded seating area to enjoy our Oregon garden, featuring hundreds of blooming trees and plants, as well as a kitchen garden from which you can sample blueberries and raspberries during the summer months.
- Private entrance
- Secure wireless Internet
- Free parking on quiet street
- Convenient access to local bus routes & several great parks
The cottage is a guest house of Barry & Laura, who live in a separate house on the property. The structures are distant enough to offer a sense of privacy while close enough for you to knock and ask if you are interested in restaurant recommendations (we're NYC transplants and foodies of sorts), directions, explanations about native plants or our garden, great running/hiking routes, or if you have questions about the cottage or the area in general.
In addition to being in close proximity to all the great Eugene offerings above, the cottage is just a half block from Eugene's historic Masonic Cemetery, where visitors can stroll the wild rose-lined paths and read about the notables who colored the town's vibrant history. It is also three blocks from Amazon park, which boasts fantastic running trails (Adidas & Rexius), tons of green and picnic space, a skate park, and fantastic outdoor pools (for the summer months).
Historic Hayward Field (where Steve Prefontaine ran to his glory) is less than a mile walk north down lovely University Street, where the trolley car used to carry folks to and from campus in days of yore. And, if you aim to explore fantastic hiking paths, we are only a few miles north of the Ridgeline Trail, which features an incredible vista from the summit of Spencer's Butte. The cottage is also in very near proximity to other local trails (Adidas, Rexius, Ribbon, Willamette Riverfront, Mt. Pisgah) for runners, hikers, and explorers of all levels.
And we are, of course, situated in the South Willamette Valley, which means you will also be well-positioned to explore some of the region's best wineries, or to make day-trips west to the Oregon Coast or east into the Cascade Range.
The cottage was constructed by a local design-build firm and its eco-friendly design has received coverage in the local press.

Thanks for your interest in the Garden Cottage! We have many return guests who have made this their regular home away from home. We hope that you will, too.

Laura and Barry's Private Garden Cottage was a wonderful find for my recent work trip to Eugene. The place is clean and bright. The Murphy bed and I got along great. Would recommend to friends and would gladly stay again.
The garden cottage was cozy, quiet and very clean. We were only sorry that it was too early in the season to be able to enjoy the garden in bloom!
Contact with the hosts was speedy and efficient.
We really enjoyed staying at Laura & Barry's cottage.
They communicated everything we needed to know before arrival, and were very responsive when we changed our schedule and when we had questions during the stay. We even managed to borrow a couple of household items that we needed during our stay!
The cottage itself was spacious, with high-end, modern fittings. The radiant heat is particularly comfortable, heating without drying. It was very clean and well-stocked.
We are very glad to have found them and will definitely stay again!
Laura and Barry's place was warm and cozy. Their cottage is the perfect place to stay while you are visiting Eugene, whether for business or pleasure. Laura and Barry themselves were amazing hosts. I was stranded for four extra days due to a horrible blizzard and they were flexible and understanding. They even woke up on a Sunday morning to push me out of the snow!
This is a lovely guesthouse, even on gloomy, foggy days in winter! Laura and Barry are extremely thorough in their communication about check-in/out, info about the guesthouse, and even places in Eugene. They were kind enough to allow use of an iron/ironing board, as well. I didn't actually get to meet either of them in person but that wasn't any problem at all. The guesthouse is nicely equipped with soft towels, pillows, fresh ground coffee, and tea (which I kind of cleared them out of)! Eugene is small enough to make this a great location, only a mile or two anything...downtown, UofO, restaurants, etc. This is a great place to stay!
Thanks so much, Ryan. We're very glad you enjoyed the cottage and your visit to Eugene. Thank you for taking such thoughtful care of the cottage and for the kind note you left. And we're glad you enjoyed the tea! That's the idea! Perhaps we'll have an opportunity to meet you in person on a future visit. We'd be very happy to have you back.
The garden cottage provides a wonderful private space in a relaxing setting. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable with nice light, and the radiant floors are luxurious. Everything I needed was taken care of and the welcome instructions from Laura and Barry were thoughtful and very thorough. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future!
We had the nicest time at Laura and Barry's! The garden cottage is a peaceful retreat in Eugene and we felt immediately at home. It is secluded enough to provide complete privacy, but also very secure. Our hosts were friendly and easy to make contact with. They were also kind enough to pick us up from the train terminal, and offer us tips on how best to enjoy our stay. We loved the freshly ground coffee they provided, and the garden setting was ideal.
Mathew and I chose this place because it was near to Hayward Fields, and we wanted to try out the track. In fact, it was a gorgeous fifteen minute walk to the university campus, along a really pretty set of streets. We also enjoyed the Masonic and Pioneer cemetery nearby: a real find.
Absolutely recommended. Thank you!
Warm, quiet, comfy everything-we-needed base for our winter visit to Eugene. Laura & Barry's communications were clear & thoughtful. The studio is clean & bright & spacious & private, with awesome radiant-heated floors. Walkable neighborhood features interesting homes & gardens, parks/playfields several blocks away, and an historic cemetery w/ signs sharing Eugene pioneer history. Grocery stores, pubs, U of O campus & more are a short drive away. Enjoy it all!
Laura and Barry have a darling cottage that is comfortable and inviting. Everything was neat and tidy - bed was super comfy. The path down the garden gate can be a bit dark at night so walk carefully! I would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the garden - it's stunning. Thanks Laura and Barry for a lovely stay.
It was a pleasure for us to stay at Laura and Barry's Private Garden Cottage. The setting was so nice and peaceful in their garden - with beautiful plantings and visiting birds, squirrels and hummingbirds. We loved how bright the cottage was with the vaulted ceiling. Laura and Barry were the perfect hosts - very friendly and helpful yet respectful of our privacy. The location was very centrally located and made it easy for us to walk/take buses part of the time. We would definitely recommend their cottage for anyone visiting Eugene!
