Guest room in house built in 1899. Quiet small town, next door to a park, 20 minute drive to downtown Bloomington. Huge yard with volleyball net, fire-pit, patio. Cable TV, Netflix, Wi-fi. 5 minutes from Lake Monroe, 10 minutes from Starlite Drive-In
Peace, quiet, sweet animals, and free Wi-fi! Also, a large, flat screen TV w/ Netflix, a DVD player, and a gas fireplace all open to you. Smoke-free!
I've lived here for nearly 10 years, so I know Bloomington well. I can recommend nature trails, cultural events, and great restaurants and shops! You will be abt 5 minutes from Lake Monroe, which is Indiana's largest lake! so the beach and lakeside trails are just 5min away. :)
This room has a new floor, and a new (Jan 2014) memory foam mattress on a wood frame. 2 windows let in southern / western light.
Upstairs, there is a small room with a futon that could be used for extra people / kids. The steps are kind of steep (see picture) - not quite a ladder style but almost - so not ideal for small children unless supervised by an adult.
I have another room too - please see 'Wild Things room: quiet house, close 2 Btown'. (there's a mural of 'Where the Wild Things Are' painted on one wall! :)
1 full bath and a 1/2 bath.
My kitchen is your kitchen - feel free to buy food and put it in the frig, and cook if you want. I am also happy to provide a lite breakfast for you on your first day free of charge if you let me know what sort of things you like. (eg, I don't want to get eggs for you if you're vegan, or bread if you're gluten-free)
The house was originally built in 1899, with a couple of additions later. There's hardwood in the bedrooms and living room, and tile in the kitchen and dining area - no carpet.
I have dogs and cats! so if you have allergies, not a good fit. I have 2 adorable old lady dogs (very well-behaved) and 3 cats. I Roomba a lot but there always still seems to be some renegade fur!
Harrodsburg is a small town - super quiet, and in my 4 years here have never had a problem with the neighbors or any sort of theft or anything. No bus comes here tho, so you would need a car. I have a HUGE yard (email hidden)is is a great place for someone to just relax and decompress. My patio is really relaxing, and I also have a fire pit if you want to roast hot dogs or marshmallows.
It's abt 10 min to the closest grocery store (Kroger) and abt 20 min to downtown Bloomington. There is a gas station/ convenience store right down the street. I am literally right next to a lovely little park and the community center. The drive-in is also just down the road, about 5 minutes away.
The entire house may also be available if you enquire about that - see my 'Historic House' listing.
Rachael was a very kind and welcoming host. I'd be glad to stay with her again.
I recommend staying out of town at Rachael's. She was very welcoming even though I didn't get to meet her I appreciated her cats and the peace and quiet. The moonlight is incredibly bright and in the daytime there are nice winding roads for taking walks.
Rachael's home is ideal for the animal lover with her many friendly cats and dogs. Rachael is a gracious host, and even gave us a gift card. She asked in advance what our favorite breakfast was, and had that ready for us. Thanks, Rachael!
The experience we had was great. The location of the home was very convenient, and the hospitality shown by the host was wonderful. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the entire stay was extremely economical relative to other options. The yard is huge if one is traveling with pets, and it is a very quiet and peaceful environment. The guidance we got about the best places to see and the restaurants at which to dine was very useful for us as newcomers and visitors to the area. We made new friends - people and pets - that we hope to stay connected with for a long time. Would strongly recommend this option if you are looking for a warm, eclectic, pet-friendly environment for your stay in Bloomington.
