The Space

Come see what all the buzz is about in the artsy/bohemian neighborhood of the Marigny/Bywater! Tons of great restaurants, cafes, and bars all within walking distance. A true taste of REAL New Orleans!

Stay in our spacious beautifully furnished Bywater 150 year old Creole Cottage. Very charming! 12 foot ceilings, hardwood floors etc. Living room has a futon that converts to a large single bed. Bedroom has a comfy, queen sized temperpedic bed!

The kitchenette comes with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, french press, utensils, plates, cups, etc.

Things provided:
- fire/alarm system
- keyless entry
- Wireless Internet
- Towels, linens, hair dryer
- shampoo, conditioner, soap
- Iron, ironing board
- Coffee & tea
- 42" flat screen tv (no cable but it gets basic channels like NBC, CBS, etc. )
- easy on street parking
- 2 cruiser bikes

Our home is right next door so if you need anything let us know!

On street parking with a lovely park within the block! On peak season rentals (Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest etc.), we prefer a four night minimum.

Easy 15 minute walk to all the music and clubs on Frenchman Street. 20 minute walk to French Quarter. 2 minute walk to numerous coffee shops, restaurants, bars, 24-hour grocery store, etc. Also right around the corner from the always entertaining Country (email hidden) with a heated POOL! There is also a laundry mat in walking distance.

The newly opened riverfront park, Crescent Park is just blocks away - amazing views of downtown New Orleans.

There is a bus line right on our corner. It's an easy walk/bike ride to almost everything that we never even use the bus. But it's there if you like.

Two cruiser bikes available to you as well! One mens and one woman's. New Orleans is a very bikable town. *Renters are responsible for bikes while out with them - Please review our house rules on the bikes.

Please take a look at our map view or our guidebook so you get an idea of how many bars, restaurants, stores & coffee shops are within walking distance.

** Heavy partying reserved for French Quarter! Looking to host mature, respectful and considerate adults. Not boring...just considerate - respect our home like you would want others to in your home.

  • Betsy was a great host and provided lots of information about the neighborhood and the city as well as important amenities like linens and toiletries essential for a traveler. Her historic home was very charming and comfortable despite the hot and humid weather while I was there. The neighborhood is a vibrant up and coming area with a number of fabulous restaurants and bars about a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bus ride for the riverwalk W French quarter area. If you're looking for a hip place to stay and experience New Orleans like the locals do, I absolutely recommend Betsy's.

    Response from Betsey:

Thanks for letting me know Gabrielle - yes, I noticed that right after you left! I think maybe with the rain or something warped the door more. We just got it temporarily fixed until our carpenter can properly adjust the whole door. Other than that I'm glad you had a nice time in NOLA :)

  • This was a great first Airbnb experience! The accommodations were clean, convenient and comfortable. We used the bikes daily, it was a great perk. Betsey and her husband were right next door, available for anything we needed. Thanks for a great time in NOLA!

  • We had such a pleasant stay at Betsey's place and an amazing time in NOLA in general, and she and her husband were very nice. They've got a lovely home in a great neighborhood. If I could live in the little cottage, I would. Comfortable, well-decorated, so quiet! The bikes were a major part of our stay - we rode them *everywhere*, humidity be damned - so thankful they were available to us, considering her previous bikes had been stolen recently. In the cottage, you'll find tons of guides for exploring the neighborhood and city, though it's really fun to roam (ride) around aimlessly and see what you'll stumble upon.

  • We had an awesome stay in Bywater, thanks especially to our thoughtful hosts and their gorgeous abode. Betsey had her bikes stolen right before our stay, but she went well out of her way to secure two cruisers for our visit. The apartment has great energy, very elegant interior design, and is totally the perfect location. The apartment is also very quiet. Betsey goes above and beyond the expectations of a host, even outfitting the fridge with beer and wine. There is also a wonderful park directly outside your door.

I highly recommend staying in the Bywater neighborhood. It's about a 20 minute walk to the French Quarter (we are so glad we chose to have some distance), but features bars and restaurants we actually preferred more. Def check out Bacchanal, play shuffleboard at Marky's, drink all the cocktails at Booty's, and I wish we could have sampled more at Maritza. Oh yes and Satsuma was my favorite cafe.

  • Stayed here for a few days R&R after Sharon was presenting at the AAO conference.

First, city overview. Our American friends were surprised we were staying so long in New Orleans, but we found it well worthwhile from a cultural, architectural and gastronomic perspective. We looked round the garden and warehouse districts for the first few days of our stay and then spent time in Bywater and the French Quarter.

Enjoyed the plantation and swamp tours, eclectic dining and Frenchman Street.

Accommodation? All fine. Taxi driver tried to put us off walking around at night, but he took a silly route getting there. All perfectly safe.

We really liked Bywater. Even dropped into a real estate agent.....

Bonus for us was the bikes. These meant we were able to do pretty much what we wanted, easily any at no additional cost. Hosts provide sensible bike lock, so no worries there.

Country Club was a blast. Saturday morning was our finale before long flight back to the UK. Look it up, then go.

  • This is the perfect apartment for a New Orleans visit. Clean, tastefully decorated, and in the absolute ideal location. Plus, the BIKES make everything so easy to access. Bestey is super easy and super-available to help point you in the right direction if you need it. We definitely hope to stay again soon! Thanks Betsey!

  • What we loved best about Betsey's place is the location. The Bywater/Marigny area is thriving with everything you need (Frady's corner food store/market, coffee shops (satsuma), restaurants (marizane, the joint, maurepas, pizza delicious), parks (community park across the street with its regulars, new crescent park), and snowballs all within 1-3 blocks from the house although we used the bikes to traipse around the city. The bikes were a big plus. You can also rent a bike ($25/day + helmet + lock) and have it delivered and picked up at the house from Bob of BigEasyBikeTours. It was a little chilly while we were there and the front heating unit (original!) doesn't work great but the floor heating unit near the queen size bed does! There is a small kitchenette (no stove unit- no cooking) so it's ideal for short visits. We really enjoyed being a local in the Bywater.

  • This cottage has the ambiance of a creole setting and if you enjoy history and charm, it is a place for you.

  • In keeping with other reviewers, have only good things to say about the hosts, the home, and the location.

Would definitely recommend and stay again.

  • We loved Betsey's house in the Bywater - it's a perfect base for visiting New Orleans. The surrounding blocks have great restaurants, bars, and architecture and we were able to use the bikes to travel all over the city. Betsey's recommendations were all excellent and the house has everything that you could need. We highly recommend it!
