The house was great and in an excellent location and only a $5-$7 Uber trip to the French Quarter. It was a lovely little neighborhood and would highly recommend staying here. Betsey was a great host and her suggestions were very helpful. If we ever came back to New Orleans we would not hesitate to stay again.
I had an amazing time staying in Betsey's place. She and her husband Jack were extremely friendly and helpful, super enthusiastic and had great tips about their wonderful Bywater neighborhood. When I had tire trouble with one of the bikes, Jack offered me his personal bike and even got out a hex wrench to take off the bike's baby seat for me. The stay was quite comfortable, and the location could not have been better!
The listing description was exactly right. We felt at home right away, there were some snacks in the kitchen and we were able to inhale some cookies after our flight (thank you Betsey!).
The neighborhood is beautiful and so much fun to wander. It may seem sleepy but you will find hidden gems all over the place. Check out Frady's for a po-boy; Bachanal for wine, a design your own cheese plate and live music in the backyard; Elizabeth's for, as Betsey recommended, seriously worth-it-praline bacon; Satsuma for breakfast. There is a great record store, Euclid, beside Pizza Delicious which is also very worth it.
The cottage stayed nice and cool despite keeping the air off for the most part when we were out (this is a relief for August in NOLA 45 Celsius).
One slight word to the wise. The Bywater is a really friendly neighborhood where we felt safe, but the French Quarter sometimes isn't safe at night, and the walk between the two after significant darkness is not overly worth it. Choose a $10 cab instead.
We would really enjoy staying here again and we want to come back to NOLA soon. The live music and great people really make this place.
Thanks for everything Betsey and NOLA!
Betsey's place is exactly as pictured. The apartment was clean and cozy. We took full advantage of the bikes to get from the Bywater neighborhood to other parts of the city. Betsey was very responsive and provided detailed and easy to follow instructions. Additionally, she made some excellent restaurant recommendations.
Betsey's house was super relaxing and comfortable. An easy walk into the French quarter.
My boyfriend Michael and I spent a very lovely weekend at Betsey's airbnb. This is a good choice for anyone who desires a more authentic neighborhood experience and a place more removed from the tourist hubbub. It was exactly as the picture shows on the website and the neighborhood was eclectic and quiet, very friendly. We didn't see Betsey or Jack, but were in contact with Betsey through text or email if we had questions. The space was cool and quiet, which was very nice after biking or walking in hot and humid New Orleans most of the day. A kitchenette had snacks, fridge, and coffee maker, as well as utensils, cups, and plates. The bathroom was very functional, tub/shower, lots of fluffy towels, toiletries, and hair dryer. Overall the place was spotless and very nicely decorated, which added to the comfort level. We spent much time in the immediate neighborhood and ate at the suggested restaurants--The Joint was great for barbecue, Booty's Street Food, Bud Rips, and groceries at Mardi Gras Zone. Very lovely park across the street for sitting and reflection. Crescent Park was nearby for riding or walking along the Mississippi too. Reasonable walk or bike ride to French Quarter or Frenchman Street. Great birthday meal at Three Muses (with music) on Frenchman Street. We also biked to the Garden District one day--great way to see the city too. Loved the bikes and so glad we decided to use them because the bus didn't come that day.
Felt safe in this neighborhood and people were extremely friendly and down to earth. Overall relaxed vibe that was greatly appreciated.
About the Host, Betsey
Hi! I'm Betsey I'm a born and bred New Orleanian back from a 10 year stint in NYC where I met my New Yorker hubby -Jack and easily convinced him to move back to my hometown. We bought our first home - this 150 year old Creole Cottage nearly 5 years ago and have been lovingly bringing her back to all her glory!
We are very social and love meeting new people and telling them all about this beautiful city! We also totally respect privacy and leave guests be unless they would like any info.
We take great pride in our home and plan to host people who respect it as well.
