We spent 10 wonderful days at Le Spighe. Francesco was there to greet us, with beautiful home- made gifts and heaps of information on the area. We stayed in the stand- alone cottage and it had everything we needed..... especially heating as it became very cold. We spent days driving through the stunning countryside of Tuscany and Umbria, visting all the villages. Le Spighe is so central. The local town has supermarkets, so you are able to prepare meals in the cottages. There is also an internet cafe. Francesco and his family are so warm and generous and nothing was too much trouble. We highly recommend Le Spighe......perfect!
Francesco is the ultimate host; going out of his way to accomodate our needs. My husband loves Italian cooking so I asked if there was a cooking class nearby. He made reservations for us at La Parolina Ristorante with chef di Iside Romano. The whole experience was fantastic! Highly recommend it!
The cottage is located in a beautiful, yet secluded Tuscan valley with panoramic views in all directions. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you may need. Francesco's mother baked us a delicious pie and we were given a great bottle of homemade Chardonnay. We felt like family and will definitely be back.
Must say "absolutely fabulous", we used Le Spighe as home base upon leaving Rome. From there we made many road trips to both surrounding towns and hamlets as well as Florence. It was wonderful to return to our quiet abode after the intensity of the cities. Francesco and family were wonderful hosts and gave many tips about the area which made us appreciate our stay all the more.
We even had a flat tire and Francesco brought me to a repair shop and helped with the necessary arrangements. The facilities are neat and clean and well situated on a well loved farm. Although at the end of gardening season, we were able to find tomatoes, lettuce, eggplants and raspberries. Would love to have seen it a month or so earlier. No complaints from this quarter and yes, we would go again.
We had a fantastic stay at Agriturismo Le Spighe, in fact it was our favourite accommodation that we stayed in while in Italy!
The cottage that we stayed in was on the second floor and was massive, with 2 bedrooms, a lounge, bathroom and kitchen. The outlook from each room was over the surrounding paddocks and gardens and was very beautiful and relaxing. The cottage itself was very well furnished with everything you need. We also had access to a communal laundry, BBQ and were told that we could help ourselves to the fruit and vegetables, (raspberries, apples, lettuces, tomatoes, eggplants, herbs etc).
One of our highlights while we were there was watching the 3 little kittens that lived with their mother in the garden.
The hospitality that our host Francesco and his family showed us was fantastic, from the tart on arrival, to some home made wine, parting gifts and time to chat. He and his family are warm, friendly people who really care about their agriturismo and guests.
Contact with Francesco was always quick and easy and he even met us in the nearby town on arrival after we took a wrong turn.
If you are looking for an authentic and relaxing stay in tuscany you will not be disappointed. In fact it's one of those places that I wish I could keep to myself ;)
After reading the last few pages of others' reviews, I can't think of anything clever and unique to say that hasn't already been shared. We haven't stayed at any other airbnb's, nor any place else in Tuscany to compare Le Speghe to, but we sure enjoyed ourselves. The beauty of the surroundings, convenience to things we wanted to see, and most importantly the hospitality we experienced from Francesco and his family, really made it something special. Oh, and a great value, too.
We stayed at Le Spighe from September 17th to 24th and we loved it. We rented the one bedroom cottage Il Fienile and it was just perfect for the two of us. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. Francesco and his parents were wonderful. We had a delicious cake made by his mother waiting for us when we arrived and during the week, we enjoyed fresh picked raspberries and a bottle of the family's own wine. We did some traveling in the area and the location of the cottage was prefect for that, but highlight of our stay was just spending time relaxing at the cottage. We went into the village markets, bought some great food and had fun cooking some delicious meals. Francesco also had lots of good advice for us about things to do in the area, good restaurants and so on. We would highly Agriturismo Le Spighe. Thank you to Francesco and his parents for taking such good care of us!
Yes we stayed at Le Spighe agriturismo for a week in September ,
very quiet and very relaxing . Need a car to get around . Wonderful
surrounding area to explore .
We had a fantastic experience at Le Spighe. Francesco and his family went way above and beyond to make our visit a memorable one. If you are looking for an authentic agriturismo, you will find none better. Grazie Mille Francesco
What can we say about our stay Le Spighe and Francesca and family. It was everything we expected and more! It was the highlight of our trip in Italy. The family is warm, welcoming, friendly, funny - just wonderful people! The cottage on the farm is fantastic. It is in an ideal location with all major tourist attractions within 2 hours drive. We had access to fresh fruit and vegetables on the farm. If ever we are in Italy again, I will include a few nights here. This comes with my highest recommendation.
It was our first visit to Tuscany. Francesco sent us perfect directions and, from the moment we left S2 on to the tree-lined track leading to our cottage, we felt at home. Remember ‘Gladiator’ where Maximus Decimus Meridius walks through the fields? Well… this is what Le Spighe looks and feels like! We were speechless at the beauty & peacefulness of this stunning rural place on the border of Tuscany/Lazio, the setting was perfect, the gardens lovely and restful with plenty of places to sit outside with others, or to just be alone. It's a family farm which has been in the Prudenzi family for generations and this shows in the pride and care that Francesco and his family take with their land and the visitors who spend time there. Their farm is in a quiet part of the countryside, but we felt so safe, a place where one can hear the birds and literally ‘find the time to stand and stare’ - time really does stand still here. Our cottage had its own garden area, was surrounded by fields of sunflowers, with views over to the village of Proceno. Shops and restaurants are but a short drive away in Proceno and Aquapendente. Nearer still at Trevinso is an area of outstanding Natural Beauty and there is plenty to do in the area around the beautiful ‘Largo Bolsena’, lovely restaurants at Bolsena where one can enjoy a quiet lunch, a ‘café Fredo’ and ‘siesta’ time on the sands along the lakeside. The picturesque hill-top towns of Serano, Sovana and Pitiglino, a short drive away, are well worth a visit just for the views alone! Montepulciano, with its picturesque Piazza Grande & cellars of delicious wines, is also within driving distance. Our little stone built cottage ‘Fienile’ was truly delightful, immaculate and spotlessly clean, cosy with a log fire for winter and with everything we needed, fridge-freezer, cooker, comfortable beds, TV, provisions for breakfast – even a washing machine in a separate stone building for our use along with plenty of discreet washing lines! Francesco so helpful, proud of his family’s heritage, explaining everything so well in his excellent English and being extra patient with our not so good Italian! welcomed us with a delicious pie baked by his Mama and immediately made us feel at home, offering us any vegetables and fruit we could find on his land. These were delicious, especially the tomatoes, so full of sunshine! Special memories just as the sun came up, of walking barefoot in the early morning dew to pick those delicious raspberries. We loved every minute of our time at ’Fienile’. Le Spighe is thoroughly and highly recommended by us – an ideal place for couples, also for families with young children, with lots of space for them to run around safely. A perfect place for a quiet holiday, or as a base for exploring the wonderful Tuscan/Lazio countryside. We will definitely come back, again and again. A little bit of heaven on...
