Perfect location (for those who are looking for the "secret Paris", not the one for tourists: the Square Gardette is one of those hidden gems of the capital), and the six floors aren't that high!! Hugo's flat is extremely calm and it does matter in a very high-pace city. Go for it if you don't have heavy luggages to carry up :) The area is full of excellent restaurants and wine bars, you can party on the nearby rue Oberkampf, and the french lifestyle lovers should try the Richard-Lenoir food market every Thurday and Sunday mornings. Enjoy :)
I stayed in this apartment for a month. All in all, I loved Hugo's place and had a great time there. My favorite part is actually the fact that it's located on the 6th floor (you get used to the walking up in no time!) because it means that the apartment is flooded with light and sunshine! It was perfect for me. I loved the little kitchen area, the bathtub, the cozy bedroom.. I like how Hugo decorated it and the location is perfect as well, close to shops, bakeries, bars & clubs, the metro, the bus, restaurants etc..
What I didn't like so much was the fact that it wasn't really clean when I arrived, I spend a considerable amount of time cleaning the fridge, shelves etc. Now I understand that different people have different expectations regarding this but I wished it had been cleaner.
I didn't really have much contact with Hugo after I moved in but communcation was good when necessary and I can recommend his appartment!

Hugo's apartment in Paris really was the centerpoint of a wonderful Paris vacation. The actual apartment was clean and we had everything we could have wanted. The bathtub was excellent! The area where the apartment is located is clean and safe, with cafe's, butchers, bakers and everything you need close by. The Voltaire metro station is also close, so you can get to any part of Paris quickly. While the apartment is not located right by the major monuments and museums, it is in a lovely quiet residential area of Paris where you actually feel like a Parisian (AKA not touristy). If we ever go to Paris again we will look for Hugo's apartment.
It was a long way up to the 6th floor but it was worth the climb. Hugo's apartment is petit and comfortable for us both throughout our 33 days on Paris. A typical Parisian apartment with heaps of good books and beautiful artworks. We really enjoyed the view, the accessibility to anywhere in Paris and a wonderful neighborhood full of great excitement. Our favourite past time was to walk to the famous Bastille Marche twice a week for marketing and hanging out we also enjoyed walking/ cycling to canal st martin, oberkampf, belleville and menilmontant. The simply marche supermarket is also another favourite stop where you can find more than 100 variation of dairy products! We cycled almost everywhere and took both the metro and bus too. Towards the end, we got used to climbing the stairs. In all oddness, I am missing it. Hugo is amazing too. We met up about 3 times and he farewell us home. Thanks for giving us your home for that long.
We had a fantastic stay in Paris and Hugo's apartment was perfect. Small and quaint it felt like a home and was the perfect base to explore from. Very perisian! The sun streaming through the windows was beautiful.
We never met Hugo but communicating with him was a breeze.
The hosts were wonderful, reliable and very flexible--which made my stay so pleasant and stress free. I had a great time. Location is super central, just a short walk to Bastille and marais areas. Apartment is very charming--full of light and in a very typical parisienne neighborhood with lots of restaurants, shops and cafes.
