We are ideally situated for visiting the medieval towns, villages and chateaux that abound in the area and are also within easy reach of the prehistoric caves of Cougnac, Padirac, Les Eyzies, Pech-Merle & Font de Gaume.
The magnificent countryside is ideal for touring by car, bike, or motorbike and abounds in quiet roads and tracks for walking and cycling.
There are two restaurants within walking distance, or a few minutes by car or bike, while a wide selection of restaurants can be found in the towns and villages within about 10-20 minutes drive.
Nearest AIRPORTS are Bergerac, Brive-Vallée de la Dordogne, Bordeaux, Limoges and Toulouse
Nearest RAILWAY STATIONS are at Souillac (Paris-Toulouse line) and Sarlat (trains from Bordeaux and Bergerac)
CAR HIRE is available at all airports and in Sarlat (Europcar, Hertz).
There is no bus service, so an independent means of transport is essential to enjoy the region. Gourdon, the nearest town, with shops and restaurants, is 10 minutes away by car, while Souillac and Sarlat are about 20 minutes drive.

Des gens exceptionnels, d'une rare hospitalité, un lieu inoubliable, des petit déjeuners exquis... Que dire?? Nous vous conseillons tout simplement d'aller à leur rencontre..
Susan and Nigel welcomed us at the Auberge les 100 écus very warmly. Their house is typical of the region, very big, so as our room, called "Le Noyer" : much space, very comfortable bed, cosy bathroom with a bath, and a lovely terrasse with view on the big walnut. We directly felt at home ! In the morning, Nigel and Susan prepare a delicious breakfast, with bread and viennoiseries, home made jams (just perfect and so yummy !), juices, hot drinks, fruits, cereals...
They have a nice pool to rest and swim after visit days.
Their 3 dogs guard well the house. Young and lively, they immediately go to you and ask for hugs ! if you don't like dogs or are afraid, Nigel and Susan isolate them, in a separate room so you are not bothered.
We highly recommend our stay there !
Nigel and Susan were very welcoming. When my wife and I arrived they suggested right away that we were welcome to make a swim in their lovely pool, which we did. The same night we had a wonderful diner that was prepared by Nigel who turned out to be a very good cook. Diner was impeccable as was The Walnut Tree overall. The room was very spacious (one could make a small appartment of it), beds were really fine as was the linen. High qualitity also in the bathroom with thick towels and toiletpaper. Shower and toilet were fine too. A little drainage problem with the toilet was fixed by Nigel the same morning we talked to him about it.
Beaulieu is a beautiful estate with a nice swimming pool. Unfortanately because of the drought we could not enjoy the full splendour of the garden but that's just a sidenote.
Breakfast was excellent with a nice selection of slices of bread, croissants and raisin- or chocolatebread, yoghurt, tea/coffee and fruitjuice and a piece of fruit. It was more than we could eat every morning. Impeccable again.
Nigel and Susan were happy to make conversation so when we had questions or needed advise they helped us the best they can. We were given many tips of where to go or where to have diner. When we were in doubt what to do Nigel and Susan really thought along with us.
Nigel and Susan are very friendly, warm, humorous and helpful people. No doubt they put the wellbeing of their guests on top. Susan told us about something sad that happened to her a few weeks earlier but by no means this had an effect on our stay at The Walnut Tree. Much respect and appreciation for that!
Nigel and Susan have three dogs. They love them very much. Two of the three dogs are very lively which can be a bit overwelming at first. It wasn't much of a problem for us and I think that when it would be a problem, Nigel and Susan would pay extra attention to it.
The Walnut Tree is in a beautiful rural area. You have to drive for 10 or 21 kilometers though to reach Gourdon or Sarlat respectively.
The Walnut Tree is excellent value for money and Nigel and Susan are really good hosts. It's a B&B we would consider when returning to the Dordogne.

We do have three dogs (standard poodles) and do appreciate that some guests may not be so at ease with them as we are. We will ask guests on arrival if they are happy with dogs and, if not, we will keep them out of your way!
