Our first bnb experience, and everything ran smooth, from selection, reservation, previous information, understanding the whereabouts, meeting with Karinne (David's wife) at the apartment, and also when we left after a week in Paris. Downsides: slow Internet in the afternoon (when we were there!) and one noisy night in one of the neighbors. The apartment is spacious, all appliances are new and work, well lit, nice decoration. The location is perfect, close to a boulangerie and small market, close to metros and all the attractions, plus the experience of being closer to Parisian life. I am telling my friends to also experience bnb. David's place is a very good choice in Paris, he even has a folder with useful hints from a Parisian, not to mention travel books for Paris, France and Europe in general.
Me and my brother stayed 4 nights in February at this lovely apartment. From the beginning til the end everything was perfect. I have never tried airbnb before, so i was nervous at first. Searched for days, then i decided to rent David's. He was very helpful and open about my questions. I never had any hesitates after contacting him. Finding the address and check in was easy and comforting. David's wife Karinne met us at the apartment, replied to all our questions, told us about the neighbourhood etc... Apartment is amazing with all the paintings, furnitures, colors. Also (which i think is important) heating and hot water works very well. In kitchen you can make wonders! Beds are comfortabke, also sofa in the living room too. 5 people can easily live there. Actually the apartment is so nice, comforty and fun to spend time in, you don't want to go out! A few times internet got lost but it was not important to us. The neighborhood is central, several metro lines very near take you to all the interactions. We walked from Latin Quartier to home everyday cause streets are so lovely, we wanted to enjoy evey detail. On the street of the building there are 2 grocery stores, bakeries, a little casual sandwich shop. We loved everything about David's apartment. I want to come to Paris again with my parents soon and i will definitely choose this apartment again!
-Close to the metro and RER stations.
-Good dining places, market and bakeries in neighborhood.
Noisy. But it is an old house and probably most of the houses in city center have thin walls.
The smallest elevator I have ever seen. But it is cute and works very well for all your stuff.
House is small but functional. Enough cabinets for everyone. We were 5 but it fits best for 4 people. One have to sleep in sitting room.
Beddings and towels are clean.
Kitchen utensils are enough but it would have been nice if we had found some basic requirements like salt or sugar
Overall nice, clean and comfortable house with elevator.
My husband and I and our 17 year old son stayed in David's apartment for 18 days in Jan 2014. Overall it was a very good experience. The apartment is quite spacious, in fact we could have easily fit one more. It is charmingly decorated and has a very good kitchen where we were able to cook up a storm. The bathroom has a bath and hot, strong shower and includes a hair dryer and a combined washer/dryer. Note that the dryer is not as per an Australian dryer - it wrings the clothes dry and heats them up and then you hang them over the provided clothes-horse to dry. (This is normal for France and wasn't a problem at all). The TV and wi-fi worked very well. The apartment is on the 6th floor but there is a lift so luggage and access is not a problem. Note that we barely had to use the heating at all while we were there even when the temperature got down to around 3-5 degrees at night.
David's instructions beforehand were excellent so check-in and check-out went very smoothly. Communications were great. David met us when we arrived and gave us a good orientation to the apartment as well as recommendations for restaurants and shops in the area.
The location is fantastic - just off Blvd Montparnasse and near the Jardin du Luxembourg - an easy walk to Port Royal RER (6 mins) and a couple of metro stops (2-3mins) as well as the Gare Montparnasse plus bus stops. There are lots of larger shops within walking distance (Galeries Lafayette, FNAC, Bon Marche, Monoprix) as well as lots of boulangeries, patisseries, butcher, super markets big and small, a specialist cheese shop, charcuterie and innumerable bistros, brasseries, cafes and restaurants etc. etc..
The only negative was, as others have mentioned, the noisy neighbours - on one Friday night there seemed to be a large dance party in the building that went until after 2am and on two other nights there seemed to be a gathering right next door that went on until after 1am - a couple of occasions only of the 18 nights we were there.
We would definitely consider staying here again should we return to Paris.
Nice location, close to metro and lot of restaurants in walking distance. The host was very prompt, only draw backs are the WiFi was not working though it said it has WiFi and loud music in the apartment above us was a bit disturbing.
Thanks for your feedbacks.
I am terribly sorry to read that you had problem with the internet connection. If you would have contacted me by telephone I could have helped with simple directions.
Regarding the music, I am also sorry. Although, as you stayed 4 days including the dec 31st and my apartment is in a typically old building, the noise has probably been higher than usual. To offer more comfort to my guests, I recently made available earplugs. Parisians are sometimes very lively...
Best Wishes for New Year.
We stayed for 2 weeks. Amazing location. Great space. Very typical Parisian apartment. LOVED IT! We had our 1 year old boxer dog and it was easy. Local patisserie, markets, brasseries, awesome indian!
Very good with communication
We stayed here for 7 nights and wish we could have stayed even longer. This is a quirky comfortable apartment on the 6th floor with a great lift. The location is excellent, close to Vavin metro and several other stations within easy walk. Close to Luxemborg gardens, and many great shops and restaurants. The patisserie on the corner is excellent - pain chocolat and frambois tarts are amazing. Montparnasse district with Galleries Lafayette and Le Bon Marche aren't too far away. Lots of schools and universities nearby which give the area a very local and cheerful feel. We didn't meet David but communication was prompt and check-in and check-out was seamless. Would definitely want to stay here again.
This is a fantastic apartment. It is extremely comfortable, very well equipped, and in a superb location. We were two adults and two teenage children, and it was perfect for us. Karinne and David were extremely flexible with our arrival. They could not meet us when we arrived, so they conveniently made arrangements for us to obtain the key, and Karinne stopped by afterwards to meet us and provide additional explanations, and advice on the neighborhood and Paris. All in all it was a terrific experience. We hope to stay there again.
Cosy and elegant apartment, well equipped, good beds and linens. Excellent location, very close to supermarket, bakery, coffees, restaurants, shopping center, pharmacy, banks, movies, bus stop and subway station. Charming street, central to go everywhere. The owners are kind and attentive, but the neighbors upstairs are quite noisy and may disturb your nights.
Overall our experience with David and the Montparnasse apartment was tremendous. The apartment was clean, almost all amenities were there, and the location is superb for walking and public transport. David was responsive through all communication, included some nice tips for where to go, and left the apartment in very good shape for us.
Overall, my wife and 3 year old daughter had a wonderful 5 days here. It was the perfect launch point for a trip to Paris.
A few quick tips for future travelers:
1) Yes there is a washing machine
2) There is no oven
3) Cutting board and knives leave a lot to be desired (David said he would address this).
4) Bakery on the corner (can't remember the name) is stellar. We went there every day for breakfast. Their coffee and pain au chocolat are one of the things I will remember most.
5) I don't think the directions were 100% clear on this, but there is a well stocked market on Notre Dame des Champs, just past Vavin.
6) Worth noting, but probably realistic for any apartment, while the internet was strong most of the time, it would completely die for several hours unexpectedly. If you are coming here and expect to do some work, this may be a consideration.
