We have 2 Double rooms in our house, in a beautiful previleged location, the beautiful Black Valley -Gap of Dunloe
Breathtaking view to the Upper Lake and Mangerton Mountain, from the bedroom's window.
Ideal for Walkers, Cyclists and Nature lovers.
Our house is in a beautiful setting, the Black Valley, in the Gap of Dunloe, only 30 min drive from the towns of Killarney, Killorglin and Kenmare. Our house suits best those who love Nature and the tranquility of the mountains, and those who are walking the Kerry way, visiting the Gap of Dunloe or the Ring of Kerry.
The room has a lovely view to the Valley.
We have 2 double rooms with shared bathroom. We can host up to 4 people.
There are cats in the house (they're usually outside during the day, they won't be in your way), so it's not recommended to people with allergies. They're friendly and cuddly.
Breakfast is continental and includes coffee/tea, muesli/cereal flakes, milk, orange juice, yogurt, toast, and a fruit selection. We are both vegan so we can cater for vegans. Please let us know if you have any other dietary equirements.
If you're staying for more than one night we have two bikes that guests can use to explore the beauty of the valley on two wheels!
You can use the kitchen to cook, but bring your own groceries before coming into the valley. There is no supermarket in the mountains! The last restaurant before the house is 15/20 min away.
Fresh towels hair drier and shampoo provided.
Please note there is only one bathroom in the house that will have to be shared with the hosts, but will clean on a daily basis.
The guests will have full access to the sitting room with a TV and free wi-fi.
Interaction with Guests
We'll always be available if you need anything. We love interacting with our guests, giving some tips on what to do and see around here.
This is a great location, to get here you have to drive through the much visited Gap of Dunloe, one of the most beautiful places in Kerry. The Black Valley has much to offer if you love nature walks, mountain climbing, or just relaxing, having tea by the lake.
There is no public transport to the Black Valley.
This is perfect if you're travelling by car, or walking the Kerry Way.
If you're travelling by car, our house is only 30 min drive from Killarney, Kenmare or Killorglin (note that for inexperienced drivers driving on the left can take longer)
There are boats departing every day at 2pm to Killarney, from Lord Brandon's Cottage, a few minutes drive from the house.
Other Things to Note
We share our house with our 3 pet cats, they're like family to us, so we ask guests to respect it. If you dislike cats, this may not be the place for you. They won't get in your way if you don't want to interact with them, but if you want, they are adorable :-)
No smoking inside the house.
Merci à Sara, sa maison est très jolie et l'endroit est vraiment magnifique!
Le petit déjeuné était parfait ! Merci aussi pour les explications et les endroits à ne pas louper :-)
Out stay with Sara was wonderful. Sara is super welcoming and cares alot about her guests.
We were provided with everything we need to have a comfortable stay.
The breakfast was fabulous as well. Exactly what you need to start a day of exploring the beautiful black valley.
I would come back any time!
Its a great experience to be there. Especoally for those who love night photofraphy and hiking. But ya Sara is a very good person and sergio as well. They were kind to me during my stay. Provide direction for me and try to help me as much as they can. Their cats are superbbb cute and adorable. I spent some time playing with the cats during my stay due to raining and can't do any hIke. Haha. But ya, as the description, we really need to provide our own food. Its better if we can rent our own transport and go there. But at the end, its a very good experience.
Sara was the most wonderfully warm and welcoming person and meeting her added to the pleasure of our stay. She thoughtfully provided gluten-free bread and cereal for me and breakfast was hearty and plentiful, belying the "continental" title which always seems like it is quite small. Definitely not in this case. The house was remote but the directions were spot on. Interesting driving at night!! However it is in a spectacularly beautiful setting. If you love nature, walking, kayaking, going up mountains, this is the place for you. The beds are comfortable, the rooms cosy and there are lovely little touches like a hot water bottle. There is wifi, which is needed if you need to keep in touch with the outside world as there is no mobile coverage in the area. Lack of phone coverage is a blessing if you are really trying to get away from it all :) We were able to use the kitchen and store food in the fridge so it saved a trip out in the evening after a long day's walking. This is definitely a place worth visiting, both from the setting and from the welcome. Thoroughly recommended.
Sara is a very lovely and welcoming host, she was very sweet and gracious. She let us use her kitchen when we arrived in the evening. She made sure we had everything we needed. However, there are two things to take note of before booking ... 1) the house is in the middle of the Gap of Dunloe, it is REMOTE, and the drive there (especially at night) entails a very long drive of poorly tended, extremely narrow roads on cliff edges, your drive will be interrupted by a plethora of sheep who like to wander the roads. This is not a drive for the faint of heart ... 2) If you don't like cats consider other booking arrangements ... there is a persistent cat aroma.
She really went out of her way to provide a lovely breakfast that was so appreciated.
Holidays in the middle of a landmark? There you go!
Two beautiful and cosy (maybe a bit cold) rooms just near the gap of dunloe (and in the middle of Black Valley, which is great too). Sara and her boyfriend were unbelievably kind and helpful (we had some issues with our rental car the first day of our trip, so they helped us out by fetching us in Killarney and bringing us back - cant say "Thank You" enough). We had dinner together and it was just fun to stay at their place.
Hope to come back very soon!
I could write a blog about this visit. But I don't want to bore you so I will give you the shorter version. Firstly the directions were spot on, Sara was really helpful in giving us quick feedback and tips - where to go,
What to see and so on. Sara was really friendly, made us feel very welcomed offering drinks as we got in and we had a good chin wag. Access to TV and wifi was not expected but welcomed for a good wind down.
The gap of dunloe is.. WOW. It is breathe taking. Go there, it is literally on route from their house to Killarney and highly recommended during the day.
Views are fantastic - I can't say more. Highly recommended -
And especially for those that only like cats! Since they have a few cutes
I am Sara (23) and I live with my boyfriend Sergio (34). We are both portuguese.
Sérgio works a lot and won't be around during most of the time. I am taking a time off between jobs, so I will be around if you need anything. I usually go out foraging during the day. We love being out in Nature, and our interests include foraging, gardening, art and music. We're both vegan and enjoy a natural and eco-friendly lifestyle.
