The space

This house is completely modernised and recently refurbished detached property conveniently situated in the heart of Terryglass Village & 300 meters from the marina on Shannon lane, the road leading to the marina.

There is a historic well said to cure headaches in the woodland to the rear of the property which is accessible from a gateway beside the house.

There is also woodland in the same area to the rear but has been left untouched to allow local wildlife to flourish, so you can wake up to the sound of birdsong.

Terryglass is very central with the entire midland lake system at your doorstep.

The house comprises of a living room, dining room annex leading to a kitchen with a very large gas/electric cooker perfect for large family meals.

There are three bedrooms with a king size bed in the rear bedroom, a double bed in the front room and a triple bunk bedroom beside the double.

The bathroom is a underfloor heated wetroom.

There is a single futon bed which can be used for a eight guest as required in either the bunk bedroom(tight fit), the back bedroom or the living room.

Outside is a patio area with Outback Hunter 3 gas BBQ. There is a table and chairs & parasol for this area (or in the rear shed if the weather is poor - combination is the same as the front keysafe)

There is a 32" LCD TV in the family room which gets all Irish Saorview channels as well as the UK channels via sateillite. There is also a DVD player(so you can play DVDs for kids).

Heating and hot water is controlled by a Nest thermostat.

Given the proximity to the marina, this is a perfect location to split with a cruiser rental from one of the many hire businesses in the locale, here's the answer to a very large group.

Guest access

Main house, parking and gardens.

There is an adjoining front garage which will remain locked along with a small storage room inside the house used to store linen and cleaning items.

Interaction with guests

As we live 2 hours drive away sadly we are only able to offer key and cleaning services through an intermediary. We are contactable of course via email/phone/airbnb app.

The neighborhood

Terryglass is very central with the entire midland lake system at your doorstep. County Galway is a 15 minute drive away and you could reach Galway city in just over an hour.

Pretty and child-friendly - the marina, Paddy's bar and the Derg inn have great socialising/food and music and there is always something to do such as various water sports, forest cycles/walks in Portumna, fishing, horse riding etc

Terryglass locals take their fun seriously, annually great events are run such as the arts festival in summer(Wednesday, August 10th, 2016 to Sunday, August 14th, 2016), Halloween, St. Patrick's day and Christmas.

The Taste of Lough Derg festival, details on (website hidden)

The revamped Science Centre at Birr Castle exploring Birr Castle's scientific history is now open

Getting around

Portumna has a bus service to Dublin. There are train services to nearby towns such as Roscrea and Birr.

By car, this trip takes 2 hours (keeping within speed limits) from Dublin. M7

Alan has been a great host and the house is very good, has everything we need. One thing very good about terry glass is the restaurant in Derg inn, it's one of the nicest one we encounter in west Clare. Highly recommend for anyone to go if you would stay in Alan's house.

The house is very comfortable, got everything we need. Owner is very caring to provide some food before we arrive. When there is something we are not sure about the house, owner reply very quickly. When the gas tank got empty, owner got it fixed immediately and send gas man over. Good internet connection which is not a guarantee in rural Ireland. Highly recommend to anyone who want to visit west Ireland. It's 1 HR drive to most attraction / cities in the west.

Myself and my friends had a lovely stay at Alans House in Terryglass. The house was as described and had all the essentials for our stay. We had a minor issue with the heading when we arrived, but Alan was very helpful and it was sorted out in no time. I would happily recommend Alan as a host.

A wonderful home in a beautiful town. The home had every amenity and convenience and left my family and I in want of nothing. The home is a great central location from many popular sights. The hosts were very accommodating and open to questions, which made my first Airbnb stay a real delight. I would recommend a stay in Terryglass to anyone and would definitely stay her again.

The house was fine and very comfortable, just like is defined in Airbnb. All was in place when we arrived and without any fault. The village is really nice and Terryglass is a good place to explore west Ireland. Although Alan is not living near the house this wasn't a problem because he was always ready to answer any question we could have. Perfect.

We loved our stay at Alan's bright house which is a short walk from the harbour and the local village center. Headache well house is named after an old well with green spot nearby. A big treat for bird lovers. Alan was very caring and helpful and even organized a fishing rod for our kids and great local advice. The castle is a must see, too. Try the local pub and inn for excellent food and drinks and choose your own favorite. The pub owner is especially nice and has good advice for families with kids, like Birr festival. The steaks at the inn are of award winning quality. Thanks Alan for a super stay at your house.

Alan & Sinéad & our two little girls, Sadhbh (3) & Mae (4), we loved traveling before having kids and can't wait until they are a little older to start exploring again.
