This historic apartment was originally the administrative centre of a large family estate. Today, it is a popular accommodation for groups of friends or families and a unique place to stay with the hip atmosphere of a hostel. It contains 2 bedrooms (double and twin), a small lounge area, a private kitchen, and an ensuite bathroom. At Caveland, we offer a mixture of accommodation in dorms and en-suite private caves, so you’re free to mingle when you wish!

The space
Caveland is a complex of cave houses and terraces with amazing views and small gardens with lemon, pomegranate and pistachio trees. The decor is largely homespun; when renovating the walls we used many types of local techniques and the rooms are furnished with refurbished antique and local furniture. In the late 18th century, this complex was used as a winery. In May 2011 we opened Caveland as a boutique hostel.

This apartment is not a cave but rather a built-in addition to the cave complex. It includes two bedrooms (one double room and one twin room), a quaint lounge area connecting the two rooms, a private bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge. The outdoor terrace overlooks the entire complex and also has a sea view!

Guest access
Our swimming pool is available during the summer months (late April to October); sun loungers are free of charge, and towels can be rented for a small fee. You can also use our communal kitchen, browse our bookshelves and exchange books, or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea at our donation coffee corner in the reception area. You are welcome to join our yoga classes, movie nights, or one of the Greek tasting dinners we organize at a local tavern—just sign up at reception!

Other things to note
We have 2 dogs who are usually around and ready to play.

The Greek Islands are best explored by car, so we recommend renting a vehicle for your stay. We can arrange an ATV (4-wheeler) upon your arrival, or we can pre-book a car for you, which you can pick up from the airport or have delivered directly to Caveland. Our parking is free of charge. If you're not an EU citizen, please make sure to bring an international driving license with you!

Neighborhood highlights

We are nested in a very typical local village. Karterados is the first village you pass heading south from our capital; Fira. From Fira town, it is a 25-minute walk or 5 minutes by bus.

The area of Caveland is quiet and it offers a perfect refuge from crowds of tourists. Still, it is on the main bus route to the majority of destinations. Just around the corner, there is a traditional village with its winding paths that are only accessible by foot, on a donkey or a small scooter.

In close proximity you'll find everything necessary:

Supermarkets: 2 mini markets (3 min walk), a big supermarket with fresh vegetables, fruits and meat (13 min walk), a fish shop with the fresh catch of the day (15 min walk).

Restaurants: There's plenty of restaurants on the way from Caveland to Fira town, the closest restaurant is a 3 min walk away.

Beaches: 5-minute drive to a local beach in Karterados, 15 minutes by bus to a famous black beach in Kamari, and 25 minutes by bus to a celebrated black beach in Perissa.
