About this listing
Get an entire house to yourself on the Big Island. Leave your world behind and experience life in the heart of the Hawaiian countryside.
Situated on the Hilo side of the Big Island in the friendly and quiet community of Puna Beach Palisades, our home on a 1/2 acre lot, has sweeping ocean and garden views. It's just 3 blocks from the water and a 10-minute walk to beautiful Kehena black sand beach.
An open floor plan makes the main hale, which sleeps two, especially comfortable and romantic. It includes a king-size bed, full kitchen, a lovely living area, lanais, and an incredible indoor/outdoor shower.
A screened ohana in our tropical garden has a queen-size bed and environmentally friendly 1/2 bath for two additional guests. You haven’t experienced Hawaii until you’ve awakened to singing birds in an authentic Big Island kipuka!
We pay a lot of attention to detail, and you’ll notice it, too, in the quality of our amenities―like high-thread count, all-cotton bed linens, fluffy bath and beach towels, teak furniture on the lanai, a convenient washer/dryer, outdoor gas grill and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Our guests love our Puna hale!
Spent 3 nights here and it was great. House had all the supplies you need if you want to cook. There is a washer and dryer which is a plus if you are staying for more than a few days. The house was very clean and then ceiling fans inside kept every thing cool which was great because it was very hot. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!
This was our 2nd visit to Escape2puna. As before, we could not have been happier with Greg and Carolyn's home in island paradise. We loved being within short driving distance to Volcano, Mauna Kea, downtown Hilo, and the beautiful black sand beaches of Puna. Coming home each day to the spacious, fully furnished and well equipped home, including the amazing outdoor shower, was a absolute blessing! Thanks Greg and Carolyn for your hospitality!
We loved staying at Greg's and Carolyn's. The house was even better than the pictures! I was so lucky to stay in the Ohana which was truly a magical place. We loved our gecko friends and we would recommend going to the local market at the end of the road on Wednesdays. We felt right at home at Puna.
Although we did not meet our hosts, we felt very well taken care of. There is plenty of information and tips in a binder in the living room that was very useful to us and made our stay that much easier.
Such a wonderful and amazing place to stay! Really unique, spacious, lovely house. We loved having two spaces -- one (the main house) that put us at the treetops and one (the beautiful ohana) that put us right amidst the breezy, lovely plants and songbirds. Loved the beautiful drive from the house to Kapoho tide pools. We had gecko friends and even a centipede (be careful and check the bed to avoid a sting). No problems with mosquitos (the screens are great), and we quickly got used to the coqui frog sounds. Wonderful shower and great kitchen setup. Really fantastic and ideal -- can't recommend it highly enough!
This house was amazing! Beautifully appointed, with the most amazing outdoor shower. We were so happy to have the washer/dryer available. The location is gorgeous and the singing frogs make you feel like you're deep in the jungle. :)
The location is great, too - we were just a few miles from the Kapoho tide pools, Alahanui park (warm volcanic pool - awesome!) and the Kalapana lava flow. Amazing!
Greg was very nice; we had a chance to meet as we were leaving. We felt very at home there. (Also, thanks for the coffee!)
Garantiert kein Schicki-Mickie!
Hi Heike and Torgrim, it was a pleasure to host you. Did you ever get my e-mail address? I sent it from my regular e-mail account, though it may have still routed though Airbnb. I think I have your actual address, so let me know, if you didn't I'll resend.
We had a great experience staying here! The house was clean and comfortable, the bed was awesome, the small kitchen was well- appointed (with better-than average cookware!). Greg and Carolyn called and made sure we were all set to go, had recommendations on things to do, were very helpful. Its a great house in a quiet neighborhood (dark at night- lots of stars) within walking distance of the ocean. Its a ways from town, but we liked that. Lots of cool places to explore within an easy drive. We wanted to stay there longer :) Would definitely recommend.
