Perched high above the city bustle on a quiet Berkeley Hills street, this serene and stylish apartment is still only a short walk to the University, the Graduate Theological Union, the Greek Theater, Cal stadium, the Gourmet Ghetto, and so much more!
You don’t need to be a mountain goat to make it up our stairs, but you’ll certainly feel like one when you get to the top. Pause for a moment to take in the view, then head through the main door into the shared foyer and turn right to go into your own private, secure, and peaceful hillside abode.
With two generous rooms, a large bath, and an efficiency kitchen, there is plenty of space for a couple, a few friends, or a small family. Surrounded by warm color and natural light, you’ll soon find yourself relaxed and refreshed, ready to explore the town or visit the University.
The house is situated to take maximum advantage of its hillside location. Both rooms have six-foot-high windows, through which you’ll enjoy a breathtaking vista of towering redwoods, the sparkling bay, and the distant cityscape of San Francisco.
From the comfort of the stylish living room couch, you can enjoy the view or snuggle down with a friend in front of the large flat-screen TV, complete with Amazon and Netflix streaming, a new, Sony 'smart' DVD player with Bluray, and music streaming. Should you require extra sleeping accommodations, the couch is easily modified to a double bed.
The bedroom, decorated in warm hues, has an ample queen bed, perfectly situated for waking up to a morning view of the bay or for laying back to watch the sunset. Plug your iPod, iTouch or iPhone into the clock radio to charge or to listen to your favorite tunes. A writer’s desk is just the place for penning postcards or tweeting about your enviable vacation (or for catching up on work, if you must). Both living room and bedroom have access to the large bathroom, and there is an abundance of closet space throughout to tuck away your belongings.
Sit by the window table for a romantic dinner overlooking the bay, or expand the table for a family breakfast. The well-stocked efficiency kitchen, complete with mini-fridge, microwave, hot-plate, and sink, is perfect for making a quick meal before heading out to see the sights, or for warming up some left-overs from one of the great nearby restaurants.
Please note that there are 81 steps to get to the apartment and that it is a separate, self-contained unit, which shares a front door with the owner. (Then there is a second locked door to the unit that is exclusively for guests!)
N.B. We are LGBTQQI Friendly!
Guests have access to private parking, laundry facilities, and the entire downstairs apartment.
Interaction with Guests
We will interact as much or as little as the guests would like. The owner of the main house is a wonderfully friendly and helpful author, musician, concert producer, and long-time Berkeley resident.
We are only a short walk or drive to so many great things! Both the University of California and the Graduate Theological Union are within a ten-fifteen minute stroll, and yet well away from the fray of campus noise. As such, the neighborhood is filled with professors, scientists, artists and writers. Our guests also choose us for location, which is ideal no matter if you’re here to visit a student, teach a summer program, attend an ordination, or catch a Cal game (only ten minutes walk from the stadium!).
A fifteen minute walk downhill takes you to the north side of the campus, which has over twenty restaurants and several coffee shops, including the Brewed Awakening, voted the best cafe to hang out and study in in Berkeley. The European-style cafe, Nefeli, and Yali's Cafe, are also very popular.
A lovely one-mile walk (did we mention Berkeley’s many magical hillside pathways and secret staircases), are all the restaurants of the Gourmet Ghetto, including Chez Panisse, Saul’s Deli, the Cheeseboard, and so many more! Take an afternoon stroll to the Thursday afternoon Farmer’s Market, which has organic produce, as well as a mouth-watering array of dinner options for carry-out (or sit and eat on the sidewalk with the locals).
The Greek Theater and Zellerbach Hall (all the most famous acts come to these two venues) are just a few minutes’ drive, or a 25 minute walk. About the same distance, in downtown Berkeley, is the fabulous Freight & Salvage Coffee House (Home of Traditional Music).
Also within blocks of the house are three of Berkeley’s favorite city parks: the Rose Garden (romantic and peaceful), Cordornices (perfect for kids), and the hilltop Glendale-La Loma. Head uphill, on foot or by car, to the wonderful and expansive Tilden Park, with miles of hiking trails, a swimming lake, and always a kid favorite, the Little Farm (with goats, cows, chickens and more). Venture down to the nearby Berkeley Art Center, featuring fantastic exhibits of local artists.
Solano Avenue, with its many boutiques, ethnic restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and coffee shops, is a quick drive or pleasant walk, and a great place to while away an afternoon.
We have designated parking for your car (great for Game Day!), or if you’d rather, use the convenient Berkeley public transportation. The #65 bus, which stops just an eight-minute walk away, runs right down to the Berkeley BART. From BART, the entire Bay Area and both airports are easily accessible.
Other Things to Note
The climb to the apartment has eighty-one stairs (we’ve counted), but it’s so very worth every step! However, this is not a handicap accessible unit, nor is particularly suited to someone with vertigo or difficulty navigating stairs. The apartment shares a foyer with the main house, but once inside, your space is completely self-contained, secure, and very private. This is a perfect apartment for those visiting the University of California.
Come on up! You’ll be glad you did!
No smoking. No pets. Quiet hours from 10PM -8AM.
Thank you so much!
We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at one of Limor's airbnb places. The place was perfect - everything was just as advertised. Limor left us a wonderful basket of goodies and the view was amazing!
Bobs house was immaculate, the view out of the rooms was amazing, in the morning you get to see the sparkling bay and the golden gate bridge in the distance. There is a small kitchenette and laundry facilities. Berkeley is home to some amazing food, we were gonna stay in san francisco but Berkeley was much better since we traveled with kids. The 80 steps to the house are a nice workout after a good meal. Bu the end of our stay my two year old was calling this place "Fun house" would definitely stay there in the future.
Limor, and the host, Bob, made our stay a most pleasant one. The apartment is nestled in the Berkeley Hills, close to beautiful Tilden Park and the Rose Garden, and if you're up for a bit of a walk, you can also reach the North Side of the UC Berkeley Campus with its student-oriented pizza and burrito joints, a myriad of bars and restaurants, and the inspiring Campus, which happens to be my Alma Mater, with all the lawns and associated bussle that go along with student life.
The apartment served our purposes perfectly, is amply sized for two people (not just couples), as the "living"/TV room has a couch that can be converted into a sleeper...internet was a bit problematic, but during my last 2 days there i helped the host, Bob, with upgrading his router and consulted him on adding some Powerline converters to carry the signal from his apartment above to the downstairs more reliably...he will implement this solution shortly, so if you need to get actual work done, as we did, you should be well taken care of...the cable connection he has is wicked-fast, otherwise (100Mb down, 10Mb up)!
Overall, a wonderful experience in an idyllic and very safe/up-scale neighborhood with a very helpful, communicative and sweet host.
First of all, please allow me say thank you to Limor here for the informative email and guest guide provided. Lots of helpful information about the house and surroundings. The house is cozy, quiet and clean, amazing bay views from both windows, sitting in a nice neighbourhood.
Our host Bob, was very welcoming. My girlfriend and I had a great time during our weekend getaway. The apartment is located in the front end of the host's house and it overlooks the Berkley Hills. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place to be. You're only walking/biking distance from Tilden Park!
I would definitely book again for my next weekend getaway.
I was accommodated here less than 24 hours after I made my last minute NYE reservation. I am eternally grateful bc the deal was great. I would have paid 10x more for a NYE hotel but this was 100x better. This was a great stay. Great view. Great area. Great house. We felt right at home, very intimate and cozy apartment. I loved the conveniences in the apartment such as the snacks, teas, coffee, soap shampoo, etc. This apartment just feels like home. I would stay here again, great deal as well. I also loved the TV and speakers, great for movies we watched (only issue was no cable channels). There are a mountain of stairs to climb, yes, but well worth the view. If you stay here make sure you check out Panoramic Hill around the corner. Beautiful view.
Limor was an excellent host. She provided information about the unit, the neighborhood, places to eat and shop and answered our questions quickly and accurately. The apartment is a hike up 81 steps but the climb is worth it. Comfortable bed, nice linens, a well equipped little kitchenette, views across San Francisco Bay - it makes for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
