Our house on Laxagata was built in 1933 and our guest area, situated on our ground floor, is sympathetic to this period. The Blue room has a large double bed (with the option of a travel cot or extra bed) a hair dryer, and a kettle with free tea and coffee. The bathroom has a shower, and is shared between our two guest rooms (the Green and Blue rooms, which can be booked for family stays). A continental breakfast is provided, and breakfast for special diets can be arranged. LGBTQ+ friendly.

The space
There is a small reception area with a love seat and a breakfast table. There is a also a kitchenette with fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, induction and electric hobs, independent halogen oven, sandwich grill and kitchenware. Guests are encouraged to leave used dishes for us to wash in our dishwasher. We have now installed a washing machine with dryer (along with an environmentally friendly eco-egg detergent) so that guests can wash their own clothes during their stay free of charge. The guest bathroom is shared between our two guest rooms (the Blue and Green rooms).

Where you’ll be

Akureyri, Iceland

We have added our own photos with captions, of fabulous places near us in North Iceland. These include waterfalls, such as Dettifoss and Goðafoss, and geothermal sites like Hverfjall and Víti (Gateway to Hell). Mýtvatn Nature Baths are said to be the Blue Lagoon of the North, and offer a better experience according to many visitors. Húsavík is just about an hours drive away and is said to be the whale watching capital on Iceland. A geothermal pool called Geosea is also situated in Húsavík where you can get a breathtaking view the sea from the pool on a cliff side.

Locally, Akureyri is a few minutes walk away, and offers a range of attractions including museums, galleries, historic buildings and the botanical gardens. We are happy to recommend good places to eat according to your tastes, budget and dietary requirements.

Andy and I are keen to welcome you to the beautiful town of Akureyri in the North of Iceland. We first discovered Iceland as tourists, and were so captivated by the breath-taking scenery, quality of life and welcoming locals, that we left our academic jobs in the UK, and now live and work here. Our experience as visitors has influenced the way we have set up and run our Airbnb, and we hope that our guests feel relaxed and comfortable with all that we provide, even if it just from having extra pillows or facilities to make a cup of tea in your room.

During your stay

We are very happy to offer advice on sightseeing and travel in advance (via Airbnb messenger), or during your stay, as we still regularly go sightseeing even though we live here now. Collection from Akureyri airport, or similar local lifts, are possible for a small fee and depending on our availability.

Andy is a keen photographer and can recommend good places to visit, especially for Northern Lights and waterfalls. His photos can be viewed on Instagram under Andy.Hill.7777.
