Our detached artist studio is within a 5 minute walk to all the best Montecito restaurants and less than four blocks to the Biltmore beach. It is cozy, private and has a fabulous, hot, outside shower ! Gaze at the stars while rinsing off the sand !
Our studio is in the ultimate location, park your car and spend the weekend walking...the beach, bars, restaurants, grocery and many unique and deluxe shopping venues are all within an easy walk. The space itself is relaxing and casual, no fuss, all easy and very comfortable. Its quiet, unpretentious and relaxing.
We have a stack of clean beach towels waiting, boogie boards, a long soft board and a kayak available. There are two dining areas on the upper garden terrace and an outdoor fireplace on the lower patio.
Interaction with Guests
If our guests are new to the Santa Barbara/Montecito area we would love to direct them to all the fabulousness this paradise has to offer ! Lots to do and see and eat and admire ! We also are happy to loan out our many beautiful coffee table books on the Santa Barbara area. We are in residence on the property and will welcome guests personally.
Our street is a cul de sac so it has no thru traffic and is quiet. We are a stones toss to some of the best eating establishments in the city so that makes our place extremely convenient to going out and having a drink with a fine meal and not having to drive. We are also close to the beach ! Location, location !
Less than a block from our house is a main bus stop going either north or south. The freeway entrance is also conveniently close by. The train station is a 10 minute drive away and the airport is a 15-20 drive to the north. We have off street parking for our visitors at our property.
Other Things to Note
We do have pets on the premises, but they are not invited in to the studio ! However if you leave the French doors open you may get a visitor. Hopefully you enjoy both cats and dogs ! They are all friendly.
We have a strict no smoking rule. Our studio is very clean and we want to keep it tobacco free. Santa Barbara and Montecito are experiencing an extreme drought, we hope that our visitors will respect that and keep their showers short ! Thank you.
Kathleen was very welcoming and provided lots of good info about the neighborhood. The place is absolutely beautiful.
I've already booked my next stay.
This place was great. I was attending a conference at the Biltmore where rooms were about $1,000/night, and this cute guest house was a just a few blocks away, an easy walk.
Kat, the host, is very friendly and informative. She showed me the "secret" shortcut past a fence to get to downtown (village) Montecito. She knows the area very well and is happy to make suggestions.
At the last minute, my granddaughter decided to join me for the weekend and Kat was able to supply a roll-away cot that was exactly what we needed. My granddaughter was a little intimidated (her word) by the outdoor shower, but after she used it, she loved it. It can be slightly chilly in the morning, but the water gets warm very fast, so it's actually very comfortable, and a little bracing once you turn off the water.
The neighborhood is very nice, as you'd expect for one of the priciest zip codes in the nation. Which just goes to make the deal at Kat's "Petite Retreat" all the better. I called the decor "hippy-dippy" which I'm not sure the owner appreciated for the compliment it was intended to be ... sort of like "shabby chic" ... but I only meant that the studio is eclectically decorated and has a lot of Santa Barbara personality.
I would stay here again if back in the area, especially if theree's something going on at the Four Seasons/Biltmore.
Kathleen's Petite Retreat a real Treat! It has quintessential Santa Barbara ambiance. My daughter and I enjoyed five wonderful days together while staying in this charming locale. Kathleen is kind, welcoming and very helpful. The casita is impeccably clean with very comfortable bedding. The decore is serene and lovely, We enjoyed our breakfasts in the pretty patio, and the outdoor shower is an amazing way to start the day. We walked a short six minutes to Butterfly Beach. I highly recommend the Petite Retreat and I hope to stay there again soon!
Couldn't have been happier with our first experience with "airbnb". First, the location was amazing.....walking distance to the beach, the village, and the Four Seasons! Kat was a wonderful host, and eager to share her knowledge of the tourist spots, and restaurants, etc. The "Petite Retreat" was better than the pictures. Kat is an antique dealer and has a special talent for decorating. The outdoor shower was an asset, and very romantic. Treat yourself to the "Perfect Retreat"!!
The retreat is as advertised. The hosts were very welcoming, and there was a feeling of complete privacy. The outdoor shower is a treat, the room itself feels very well appointed without being too much, and the heated concrete floor was a nice feature. The bed linens were very comfortable and there was a sense of peace with the sounds from the fountain in the courtyard.
The Petite retreat was the perfect getaway for my boyfriend and I, we enjoyed our stay so much. The location is great.. Close walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in downtown montecito. The retreat itself is small but so pretty and quaint. I had reservations about the outdoor shower but trust me it is private, and it turned out to be my favorite part of my stay! Kat is a wonderful host, she made us feel comfortable and gave us tips for the best places to go to eat. I am hoping I can return to this perfect little place in the most beautiful town in California:)
So grateful to have had such a gorgeous place to center ourselves while in the Santa Barbara area!! Kathleen and Robert were incredible hosts!! They have created a place my daughter and I will try hard to get back to!! Artistically created and so accessible to everything one could for just a short walk from the beach!!! Thanks!!!!
Hello from Santa Barbara, California ! We are a family of four, my husband and I and youngest daughter will be visiting for only a week in Paris, Spring Break from her High School, we look forward to having our other daughter show us around Paris, she has been there a month now. Maybe in the future we could trade houses, our home is three blocks to the beach in beautiful Montecito, which is just two miles south of Santa Barbara...we love the local beach, go hiking in the hills in Montecito and surf locally. Santa Barbara has great farmers markets and excellent restaurants. We are big fans of seafood and Mexican fare. My husband Robert works at a local water dept. and I substitute teach and deal in antiques. We are pleased to be visiting Paris soon !
