The Space

Fully furnished room with large bed, wardrobes and private eastward facing upstairs balcony. Private bathroom just down the stairs. The room is open, airy, has a TV and a fan in summer. Ten minutes walk from Byron CBD and to beaches. Very quiet and peaceful. Wireless included.

The room is upstairs and is clean and private and also has shelf space.

Safe parking on the property. Just myself, the host, living here unless the second bedroom is booked.

There are beaches just across the road and a 7/11 /cafe around the corner. Buses go regularly from the the corner of the street and the neighbourhood is also very quiet and safe.

The private upstairs verandah would be very suitable for yoga practice or morning coffee.

There is access to a clean kitchen, fridge, washing machine and washing line. The house is very open plan, light and private with extensive land and gardens surrounding it.

Breakfast can be provided if organised when the room is booked.
The Cumbebin Nature Reserve runs arounds two sides of the house and one often sees wallabies, echida, bandicoots and a diverse variety of native birds.

For those who are not into cats or have cat allergies please check out the other room I have listed, which would be more suitable, it's a 'cat free zone'! :) I have three very lazy cats who keep to themselves but not suitable for someone with allergies. The other room listed is more private and the main door is always closed so the cats never go in there.

I prefer to take bookings for one person only, thank you!

Guest Access

Guests will have their own key to come and go as they please

Interaction with Guests

I live in the house but often at work. Guests can have as much privacy as they need & will have a key to come & go.

The Neighborhood

The street is a cul de sac so it's safe, quiet & friendly. The house backs onto a nature reserve so wallabies, possums, birds, lizards & even a koala can be seen.
It is five minutes walk across the road to Tallows Beach. There is a very popular cafe called The Roadhouse Cafe a few minutes walk (email hidden) the same distance in the opposite direction.

Getting around

Buses go from the end of the street & the house is within walking distance of Byron CBD, beaches & cafes.
The airport shuttle will do pick ups to & from the house.
Safe parking

Other Things to Note

I prefer non smokers but smokers can smoke outside.
I have three cats so no other pets are allowed.
No drugs or alcohol on the premises please.

Check In
  • Very disappointing ,stressful and OVERPRICED!,
On arrival I said that I was expecting something wasn't as told me I was rude and disrepectful and i could go to a motel, but wouldn't get a refund...
I was under the impression that I would have my own space upstairs..that there would be only one bedroom with private balcony, but I shared it with the 2 other bedrooms, one being the host's...where I could hear her tv on at night...
There was NO HEATING in room...when I asked for one , I was given a water bottle! (I had to borrow a heater from a local for the following night!)
A very old tv which I couldn't get to work for more than 3 mins...the room definitely needs sprucing least getting rid of all the electrical cables and wires everywhere...
There is A ridiculous list of ELEVEN rules which should be listed on website...I doubt whether host would get any enquiries...It was like being 12 yrs old on a school camp! noise , no showers or using kitchen after a certain time, 5 min shower limit, no people to be brought back, your bedroom door to be closed at all times, power outlets to be turned off when not being used, having to get permission if someone wants to visit, etc etc.the list goes on...
I couldn't wait to leave, was a waste of $200 for a stressful 2 Nights accommodation...((90 pn + booking fee)
In hindsight, I should have just cut my losses, and checked into a different place immediately after arrival...instead of returning home with a bitter taste in my mouth! Host did not take on any of my honest feedback which would hopefully improve the next person's stay...
and after asking for at least SOME refund, minimum of $50, host finally agreed....but She NEVER gave it to me!!!
    A very unpleasant experience

    Response from Deborah:

wasn't going to bother doing the review, it was such a bad experience. I will give Deb the benefit of the doubt that she was a bit mad with grieving (she said her mother had just died and her father's health was failing), otherwise she has a serious personality disorder. She complained before she even came that the airbnb booking was terrible, she shoved her way in the door without saying hello and said 'oh I thought it would be nicer'. She complained that I had washing on the line, one pair of my black bonds .... anyway suffice to say not good. I've loved so many of my Airbnb guests, I love my home and I think it's beautiful (as do most people I know) and I never want to creep around my own home being scared again. The TV does work and perhaps you couldn't asked me about things rather than send the longest sms's constantly! The rest I can't be bothered responding to, it's just standard stuff which no-one else has even blinked an eye at. A lttle hard to give you a refund when you'd just taken off leaving all your rubbish in the room.

  • Loved my stay at Deb's very comfortable and quiet home. Beautiful setting backing onto the forest. Close to the beach and Byron. Deb couldn't have been a better host.

  • Thanks Deborah for kindly welcoming me into your home, and for your hospitality- I enjoyed my stay in this peaceful place away from the busyness of Byron!

  • Deb's place was a welcome relief from the busyness of Byron in the new year. A generously sized clean room with a walk in wardrobe and it's own bathroom meant I had my own little retreat. The house is quiet and peaceful and Deb warm and friendly. Recommended.

  • The perfect place to get away on your own. I had a big week at the Hoffman Process, a full on personal development course, prior to my stay. Deborah is just a lovely host and left me in the right space I needed to re-process the prvious week. Thanks Deborah for all your kind words and hospitality.

  • Deb's property is surrounded by beautiful bush and is very peaceful. Deb is a gracious and generous host and took care of all my needs. She is an artist and also does wonderful work in the community and is a pleasure to come to know.

  • Deb was very welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. The house and garden are beautiful, bedroom, ensuite and walk in wardrobe were massive and increadibly comfortable. Deb was also able to recommend great spots for food in town. Would absolutely stay again and recommend Deb's place to anyone.

  • Deborah's home is very spacious and clean. It had been quite damp after the cyclone's when I visited so I did find the room a little musty - not recommended for sensitive folk like me!

I am looking forward to welcome you in the near future! I am a youth worker and have worked for Byron Youth Service for fifteen years. I work with young people who are experiencing difficulty in one or more areas of their lives and also do lots of fun and creative projects with them. I have two grown up kids and a 3 young grandsons. My son, his partner and grandsons live in Ballina and sometimes call in with their little family. My other great love is wildlife photography and I spend a lot of time in the wetlands, estuaries and beaches. You can see my photography on my website (website hidden) I also love travelling overseas (I love Asia, I lived there for some years and have kept returning). I also love wildlife photography, reading, gardening, movies and seeing my longterm friends. At home I lead a quiet and peaceful life since my worklife is quite hectic. The house is surrounded by gardens and a wetlands so there are lots of visitors such as wallabies, echidnas, possums, a huge variety of birds and if you're lucky you'll see the resident Koala Bear. I also have three very lazy cats who keep to themselves. Anyone with allergies would need to rent the 'ensuite room', which is always kept cat free. It also has tea making facilities in the room. Generally I prefer to have single people as guests, my work life is very busy and my home life very quiet so one guest works best for me.
