About This Listing
This room is large, airy and filled with light and has a large joining private bathroom. It overlooks my garden and has a little patio area outside. It is like staying in an art filled apartment but with access to the rest of the house.
This spacious bedroom and attached bathroom is filled with light, color and art. The skylight directly above the bed lets you see the stars at night and the sun shine in in the morning. The bathroom has two washbasins and two shower heads.
Guests are welcome to be a part of the house and use the living room or patio and garden. There is room in the fridge to store food and a tea kettle and coffee and tea provided in the room. I do not have a TV in the house so best to bring a lap top if you like watching movies at night.
Interaction with Guests
If I am present I love to interact with my guests or let them be depending on what they are looking for. I am a writer so could be tapping away at my lap top in the living room.
It is quiet and residential. The street is wide and has plenty of room for parking outside the house.
I am 5 mins from downtown Santa Barbara and 5 mins from my local beach Hendry's Beach by car. There is a bus stop at the end of the road that will take you into town in 10 mins.
Other Things to Note
I have two cats that are indoor and outdoor and I also have two long term room mates who are studying hard at the local university.
Even though our stay was short, we got to meet Helena. She was very hospitable. We loved going to sleep looking at the stars through the skylight and waking up to wonderful natural sunlight above us. The vibrant colors she chose to decorate the room in is such a pleasant space to spend time in. Before we had to leave, she sent us off with some freshly home baked banana nut bread. Thank you for being such a great host, Helena. If we find ourselves in SB, we will definitely come back again.
Helena made my friend and I feel very welcome. We arrived to town an hour ahead of schedule and she welcomed us early, which was very appreciated. The listing exceeded expectations! The room and bathroom were very large and the house was in a nice, quiet neighborhood with plenty of parking. Overall a terrific experience and I would love to stay here again!
We had a lovely and relaxing evening in Santa Barbara staying at Helene's place. The room was bright and sunny with a view of and access to the backyard. Got a lot of work done on Saturday before I had to leave, and a quick drive to great coffee shops, dining, etc. Wish I could have stayed longer! (And the shower is amazing!)
My friend and I were very delightful with the warm hospitality. Helena was super sweet. She had everything that we needed, even a bottle of wine to welcome us. The room was way better than we expected. Beautiful decorations and the shower was just perfect!
I spoke with Helena for a little while and she gave me some good advises. Her cats were adorable. I will definitely would love to come back again or recommend my friends about this lovely place. The house is so close to everything. Thank you Helena for a great experience!!!
Helena was a lovely host. The neighborhood is beautiful, perfectly situated between lots of restaurants and grocery stores on State Street and the UCSB campus where I needed to be. The shower is wonderful, and the bed is super-comfortable - I was out like a light. I would absolutely stay here again!

About the Host, Helena
Hello there! My name is Helena and I am happy to have the opportunity to share Santa Barbara with you. After leaving London, where I was born, and traveling and working around the world for a while, I discovered Santa Barbara and that was 25 years ago now! I am a photo journalist and teacher by profession and share my house with two cats and a room mate who is a PhD. student at UCSB. My house is sunny and open plan and full of paintings (some are mine). There's usually a stack of interesting books to look at on the coffee table. You will always find tea in the kitchen cupboard (or coffee) so you can make yourself feel at home. Welcome!
