We really enjoyed our stay at Bird Lover's Garden Hale. It was in a great location. The view was spectacular and our stay was very comfortable. Only note that this is up in the mountains and there are quite a bit of mosquitoes and the Coqui Frog orchestra is on full swing starting sundown to sunrise.
Cozy and rustic with stunning views. We had a lovely stay and were quite comfortable. This is definitely off the beaten path and more like a cabin. If you like camping or the outdoors this is a nice find, but if you are more at home in a Hilton keep searching.
Our stay was wonderful. The place was gorgeous and unique. Thank you for the hospitality. It was wonderful to meet you.
If you want a place like a rural cottage with a stunniing view, mosquito at sunset and aren't afraid by lizzards out and inside the cottage, thats your place! But don't go there for privacy : the cottage is a big house that was split in two rental place and you can ear everything next door. Many things fell like they want to fall appart : the table outside is rusty, floor tiles in the bathroom is cracked, the curtain of the shower start to have some mold. All almost everything is broken or about too. The cottage smell full humidity and old wood. The door of the patio dont completly closed because the house is not level. You have like one inch a the base that are open, perfect to let the lizzard in. And the curtain of the main door was felt when we arrived and it will happen again, the wall was reperaid many times... Out side, because of the humidity, many things of the kitchen start to rust, like microwave and coffee maker. The bed was too soft for us, directly beside the air conditioning and the bed cover smell humidity. Under the other rental place, it's full of scrap. But it seems to be like that in many hawaiian house... Internet and air conditioning was efficient. Towel, linen and the place in general was clean. The small road was very to steepy and a big hole was digging at the end of the paved road when we were there. When we arrived the first night, there was somebody park in the middle of our way, the road to our parking, it happens a second time too. If the owner say mosquitos have been taking care of, it cannot be care a solve problem, it is in the forest! It was 20 minutes to Kona, and many restaurants near the place. Direction to find the place was very clear. Honestly, we were happy about the view in the morning, but we were very happy to leave after 3 nights. If we go back to Kona, we will defenetly not rent this place again. We like in our vacation, place less 'rustic' then that and more up to date. In my opinion, I think this place is over price for what you get.
We didnt meet Cynthia. She did respond to email quickly. The location of the place is good. Though it gets quite humid up there. We felt like the furniture were old and not really taken care of. If you are an outdoorsy person this is a great place. You cook outside and there are a lot of Mosquitos and Cute lizards. If you are not I would recommend a place near the beach where the climate is dryer. The drive up to the house is real steep and you will need a 4wd.
I have just treated for the unusual mosquito presence so they are gone! And the rainiest season (which brings them) we have ever had is over as well. You do not need a 4wheel drive to reach the house and although steep in 2 places, it is a wide private concrete driveway. We have never had any mishaps on the drive and there are turnouts, if ever needed. The furniture style is Hawaiiana which is vintage and is a hugely popular and pricey as a style in the islands and in California. The kitchenette is on a covered lanai and it is all enclosed except the above the glass railing for the full coastline view.
