Meet and greet and then the place is yours.
Note: Minimum booking 1 week during July and August.
Cahore is a unique location. With the sea, pier, the Strand bar on the hill, stunning cliff walks and 20 miles of sandy beaches at the other side of the cliff walk, this place is like something from an Enid Blyton novel. It's ideal for families (crab fishing and jumping off the nearby pier is a holiday tradition for kids every summer). It's romantic for couples and a restful retreat for those who just want to get away from it all.
You need a car. There is no public transport. The nearest town is Gorey, Wexford and there are buses and trains that com from Dublin. It is possible to get a taxi for the 15 minute journey from Gorey but a car is recommended.
No smoking and general respect for the house and belongings.
We stayed in Ruth's seaside santuary for a sunny week in June. Blessed! The sea is literally at your feet. The house was perfect, light, airy. Bigger than expected. Felt safe. Ruth was extremely helpful with directions and any other queries we had..which were few as we settled in instantly. I felt rested and content even with a 2.5 year old and a dog to entertain. We would love to visit again. Even just for the jams! Thank you for letting out your home to others who can enjoy it also!
The Seaside Sanctuary was just as described - an absolute sanctuary! The pictures provide a good view of the place but underestimates the beauty and charm of the house. A unique design with so many small personal touches to the architecture make the home quite intriguing and so comfortable - from the full glass walls facing the sea, to the "secret" bookcase door, to the curved wall entry way. Our two small children thought the place was lovely as well and really enjoyed eating breakfast at the small breakfast bar in the kitchen or at the table looking out to the sea. The yard is completely fenced in and so they could roam around easily as they pleased. Plenty of space for the four of us and an extra small room where we could work if needed. The kitchen was also stocked with basics - spices, oil, pasta, coffee - so that we were able to supplement and cook our own meals in house. The closest full grocery store was in Gorey about a 15 minute drive, but we didn't mind the drive as the journey winds past green fields with grazing animals - although word of caution the roads are quite narrow and winding and this made for an interesting/gripping adventure!
The location is quite rural as mentioned, but so charming and we marveled at how well maintained were the local residences and villages. The best part about the location other than being directly on the sea, is its proximity to the local pub (Strand bar is literally steps up the hill and the proprietor was so welcoming), and just beyond Strands is about a 1.5 km cliff walk that was perfect for our little crew and takes you right to an incredible and massive beach where our kids played for hours.
As mentioned in previous reviews, there is a bit of a trick for the hot water - make sure to check in with Ruth upon arrival - but overall we couldn't ask for more!
Ruth was a brilliant host and Seaside Sanctuary was a really great location, with amazing views and great hillwalks and beachwalks. Would definitely recommend for a weekend away!
From the well-stocked fridge to the ready-to-light peat fire, Ruth could not have made us feel more welcome in her wood-scented waterfront cottage. We were travelling with three teenaged boys, and both the seaside location and cottage itself were perfect for our needs. We took full advantage of Ruth's excellent DVD collection and found her light-filled seaside home uplifting and easy to relax in. This is a mid-century building with a number of fixtures that date back decades (including a slightly idiosyncratic hot water system that kept showers rather on the short side) and felt like the much-loved holiday home of a creative family.
Such a plesaure to host you guys Hettie and I was delighted you managed to make the most of the few days you had here. My mistake not talking you through the boost system for the hot water. Sorry about that. You're right it is a bit idiosyncratic. Love to see you back here again sometime.
We spent a lovely weekend at Cois Cuan. The house was charming, with all essentials and lots of extra touches, huge selection of books and dvds. Location was superb, right beside the sea, lovely and quiet, gorgeous beach walks close by. Ruth made us feel very welcome, left us a bunch of goodies to enjoy. We'd love to return some day!
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful location. Ruth was brilliant in accommodating us over Christmas and at such short notice. Would definitely recommend this to others!
