  • We stayed at Michael's apartment for 3 months and we enjoyed it very much. Michael is a very good host, he never bothers you but is always available to answer all your questions and does his best to provide you with anything you might need. The flat is perfect for a couple but for us it was still quite comfortable enough with our 8 year old son (there is a sofa bed in the living room which is comfortable). The area is safe and transportation is easy (6 metro line stop 110 is just 10 mins walk). Also there is a 24 hour open deli next to the building, a bakery, a patisserie and a number of supermarkets nearby. The only concern we had was cleanliness and the stained towels and sheets as well as having to wash and use the only duvet cover for 3 months over and over.

  • Michael's appartment was in overall ok. The place is very well ventilated and very white, which is nice. The couch for an extra person is very comfortable. Internet, air conditioner and fan worked perfectly and were very useful. The bedroom has two windows facing the street which make it a little bit noisy. Michael was a very good host, he answered all our questions and was very helpful.

Unluckly the thing we didn't like about the appartment, was that the kitchen was not very clean, including the fridge and microwave. Floors had not been mopped and walls were stained with food residuals. Towels and extra sheets were not clean, they had lots of stains. We talked to Michael about this and he very kindly offered to pay for new ones, but we already bought new sheets and towels.

The neighborhood was ok, the subway its just a few blocks away and it takes you directly downtown.

Considering everything, we think the price was a little to high for the quality we received.

  • Michael was a great host. I arrived early and he was ready to give me the keys to the place. I stayed there for 34 days and never did he bother me. Whenever I needed something, he promptly responded.

  • I've spend the all month of July at Michael's flat. He is a very nice host and respond at all the questions that I have before my trip. He is very accommodating too.
For the flat there are good and bad things. For the bad, I have to say that the flat isn't exactly like the pictures, the kitchen is very small, and the living room is a little bit different, the oven and microwaves weren't really clean, and the shower curtain was disgusting (but it can be easily be changed). The last thing is that there is not much place to put our clothes because Michael has left some clothes in two cupboard (notice that we were 3 and in the place for a month).
In the other hand, the goods things are that the flat has an ascender, there is an air conditioner in the room (very useful during this summer) and a fan in the living room. You have a bus station in front of the flat, an a train station not so far. Also you have a grocery open 24H in the bottom of the building. And a target near the flat. The neighborhood is safe so it is very good.
So to give a general opinion of the flat, it is a good place to stay and Michael is a really good host. I don't know if you can find a better place for this price and location.

    Response from Michael:

I think this is a fair comment, except the shower curtain was absolutely fine before Sara came, but either her or one of her friends stained it with some brown or black liquid (hair dye?), meaning I have to get it replaced. That's perfectly fine, but it's a bit unfair to ruin the shower curtain and then complain about it.

  • Michael's apartment was a great place to end my medical school career in NYC! I stayed at his place for two months and it was everything I needed in terms of location and amenities. Michael was even nice enough to allow me to come see the place before I rented (so I knew to ignore the ridiculous review left by his past guest). Everything in the description was there. As for the previous reviewer the only difference I found was the furniture was shifted around a little - but it's all the same furniture in the pictures! Michael was kind enough to provide a brand new set of sheets and pillowcases (unopened!) for me as well. The location is wonderful in East Harlem and you can easily walk to the 4/5/6 or a bit farther to the 2/3. I always felt safe even when coming back late at night. I really enjoyed having the park outside the bedroom window. The kitchen was fully equipped with fridge, microwave, french press, pots & pans etc. Michael was an excellent landlord who always immediately responded if I had any questions. I also very much appreciated him letting me bring my cat along for the trip. Thank you for a stress free stay!

  • The apartment didn't look like the pictures at all! The kitchen and bathroom floors were absolutely disgusting, the sheets hadn't been changed (hairs in it!), the towels were dark and full of various black and yellow spots (!). The inside of the fridge and microwave were quite simply appalling! We arrived in the apartment tired after a 14-hour trip and were jet lagged so we didn't notice these things when Michael (quickly) made us go through his place, but after an hour or two, as we had gone shopping for dinner and then wanted to shower and get to bed, we opened the fridge, the microwave, then the towels and the bed. What a sight! We thought we couldn't let Michael know as he had told us upon leaving that he was flying abroad that same night...
When we let Airbnb know about the situation on the eve of our departure from Michael's (a bit late, that's true...), Michael simply blamed US for the appearance of his apartment. Luckily I had taken pictures upon arrival to prove my claim! You will thus understand that our stay at Michael's was not pleasurable at all and that WE DO NOT RECOMMEND renting from him. Now let it be said that Airbnb has been extremely helpful in the matter, told us they were sorry about our experience and compensated us without us asking for anything.

  • FABULOSO!

About
My wife and I moved to NYC last year after I spend nearly a decade traveling the world. We're still not quite done exploring, so we're looking to meet people and see new places. We love Thailand, France, Italy, Japan, and we want to see Turkey, Argentina, and Spain. We like reading, chatting, and walking around strange new cities.
