Guest access
As a couple who loves to travel we have come to realise that the luxury we enjoy on holidays, the facilities we like to be able to cook, chill, enjoy our time together with privacy and self contained space , sometimes don’t go hand in hand. So we have worked hard to create just that.

At Sunset Retreat everyone has the space they need to enjoy their holiday, the way they deserve to.

Other things to note
What to See and Do....

The Whitsundays plays host to a raft of events throughout the year, from family-friendly festivals to sporting events and music festivals.

February sees Chinese New Year Celebrations throughout the region - a colourful celebration of culture and cuisine;
April brings the Bowen Offshore Superboats, with plenty of adrenalin-fuelled action.
Then in June the spectacular Whitsunday Show, in Proserpine, and the Bowen Show.

Autumn and Winter is a great time for sport lovers when the Whitsundays is packed with sporting events including the Hamilton Island Endurance Series - Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon in May and Hamilton Island Endurance Series - Great Whitehaven Beach Run in June followed by the Airlie Beach Running Festival in July and come August you can Run The Great Whitsunday Trail and show off your prowess at the Airlie Beach Triathlon Festival in September.

One of the biggest events of the year is the Whitsunday Reef Festival, in August, which celebrates living in the heart of the reef and brings together fashion, food and plenty of family fun, with games and competitions for the kids. There is also a classic car display, parties, live music and the ‘famous’ Saturday afternoon street parade.

The sailing season is heralded by two great events on the yachting calendar in August – Airlie Beach Race Week and Hamilton Island Race Week - and where better to sail than around the 74 Island Wonders of the Whitsundays.

As the temperature warms and November hits, the region comes alive with the Airlie Beach Festival of Music, on the mainland. Now in its sixth year, the festival draws thousands of music fans with top acts in the central ‘big top’ marquee right on the waterfront. Musicians also play at many bars and restaurants around the town to create a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

December in the Whitsundays is rung in with the annual Christmas Carols on the Beach, a favourite with everyone who loves a good sing-a-long and plenty of Christmas cheer! Taking place on the Airlie Beach Foreshore, the event is eagerly anticipated by residents and holidaymakers.

We love to support our local businesses and recommend The Prickly Pineapple for its locally sourced fruit and veggies and also its Organic Range or gourmet delights. They do delivery on set days and you can arrange to place your order to be dropped off when you arrive, no need to even go to the shops!

The Master Butchers in Cannonvale also accepts phone orders and is the winner of numerous awards for their gourmet sausage range and in-house smoked foods.

The Airlie Beach foreshore markets run every Saturday morning and here you will find local produce, crafts and buskers. It’s on the beach so you can be assured a good breeze. There are also several playgrounds along the boardwalk for the little ones.

There is also Coles in The Whitsunday Shopping Centre and Woolworths in Centro Cannonvale and the Main Street of Airlie Beach all of which offer online / home delivery.

RESTARAUNTS:
The Able Point Marina and Airlie Beach Marina precinct both offer dinning options overlooking the water and yachts. These options change seasonally so it always pays to check out Trip Advisor for the most up to date feedback on dining out.

Notherlies at Woodwark Bay offers a courtesy bus and are located right on the water edge. There is always a cool breeze and often live music on. There is a great atmosphere, extensive wine and boutique beer list and the food to second to none.

What’s Here?
Sunset Retreat offers multiple entertainment areas almost making it hard to decide where to relax...there is a fully enclosed yard if you have a Fur Baby that would like to join you and this is overlooked by the pool deck…….Did someone says cool drinks in the afternoon?

The front pool deck has an outdoor drinks fridge, massive table and high top bar set up in front of the outdoor TV so you can enjoy the cricket or sporting event while cooling off poolside.

There is also of course the sparkling in-ground pool level with the house so indoor and outdoor flow is seamless. There is built in "cocktail hour" seating along one side and also a gradual beach style entry is the perfect spot to set up camp.

Sunset Retreat was awarded The Master Builders Award in its category which is a testament to its design and lay out which we can assure you, will impress.

We are close to Airlie Beach and the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and yet far enough from town that you are assured privacy and peace and quiet.

Sunset Retreat in located in a quiet residential acreage estate on a cul de sac allowing peace and quiet. The area is made up predominately of families which gives a sense of freedom and community.

As the sun sets, head out to the back breeze deck and fire up the wood fired pizza oven. Enjoy making wild and wonderful creations, kick back and enjoy the evening.

Why not finish off at the fire pit? This sculpted oasis is great for a quiet glass of Red and even the big kids can enjoy toasting up a marshmallow or two watching the moon rise and then reflect off the water.

Privately set on 2.5 acres Sunset Retreat allow’s ample room for storage of boats and trailers and plenty of parking. If you plan to bring your boat there is plenty of room to park on the property.

There is the Ruddle Dam, that Sunset Retreat overlooks where you can cast a line from the bank. The local kids have caught bait fish, Barramundi and even eel’s during the monsoon season. It never hurts to try your luck with red claw pots in the reeds either. There are also model boat races held every Wednesday and Sunday on the water which are fun to watch from the deck.

If you do bring along your boat be sure to take advantage of the Barramundi fishing at Peter Faust Dam or launch at one of three boat ramps nearby.

Sunset Retreats location means that there is the opportunity for wildlife to literally be at your doorstep. Don’t be surprised to see wallabies and kangaroo’s grazing on the lawn and green tree frogs perched on the rock beds. There are of course the iconic gecko’s that squeak and mooch about the place and the wag tails that often nest in the surrounding tree’s.
Once a year we have the influx of “soldier ducks” that dutifully line up at the end of the street and pick and peck worms and small insects across the property from early morning till they then fly en mass back down to the dam to roost.

There is also Windemere’s resident Goose “Timmy” who will give you a friendly honk if you wander down to his small dam and an even more enthusiastic one if you take him some fruit or veggies scraps. There are the neighbouring horses across the road on pasture who love nothing more than a gentle ear scratch and a rub and often put on fairly exciting display of chasing each other about with tails in the air with excitement right before it rains.

You owe it to yourself to book your next getaway.
