My studio is a perfect blend our electic art and cosy home in the centre of what visitors call Brooklyn, Toronto. It has everything you need for the perfect weekend exploring the city on the famous 501 Queen streetcar line or a short walk to it all!

The Space

Welcome to the artistic heart of downtown Toronto!

The space is a photographer's live/work studio and a contemporary photography gallery. The studio is decorated with vintage finds and contemporary art. Retro bed linens and lots of fluffy towels are provided.

I am open to hosting guests of any nationality, sexual orientation, etc., who are willing to respect my space and my house rules. The studio is on the ground floor for those with mobility issues.
Because I live in a unique community of artists, my preference goes to hosting artists and arts workers.

My studio is available primarily on weekends but if you want a long(er) weekend or a week, just e-mail me with your dates as I am flexible.
The booking is for two people; there is a double bed only, but if you are a family, please contact me; I am open to making arrangements.

Guest Access

IMPORTANT - at the moment my street is closed for construction south from Queen Street (the accessible streetcar stop at the Drake Hotel) Though you can walk down. Vehicles will need to access my studio from the south end of the building on Sudbury Street.

I have a full galley kitchen including basic pots, pans and mixing bowls, as well as a blender & crock-pot, but no microwave or dishwasher.

There is a compact bathroom (the tub is rather small-ish) with a hairdryer for your use. There is also an iron and small folding board in the storage room / closet.

High-speed wi-fi is available, but since I create here, I don't have a TV or soundsystem.

And because I create here, please note that there will more than likely be a project or three tucked into a corner or two during your stay.

Interaction with Guests

If I cannot meet you when you arrive, I am comfortable leaving a key. I will not be around (unless there is an emergency).

The Neighborhood

The studio is just south of Queen Street West which is considered the artistic hub of Toronto (think New York’s Chelsea Gallery/Meatpacking District area or Williamsburg) - there are six galleries within the block.
The Theatre Centre and the Great Hall (Toronto’s pre-eminent avant garde theatre and live music venue with regular bands) are one block east.
The very popular Drake & Gladstone Hotels are a stumble away and the the funky Parkdale, Roncesvalles and Trinity-Bellwoods neighbourhoods are an easy stroll.
It is walking distance or a short transit ride to all of Toronto's major attractions, shopping, theatres, museums and universities.

There are two grocery stores and LCBOs (for wine, beer & spirits) are 5 or 10 minutes walk.
There is ample, reasonably priced, overnight parking on nearby lots, and free parking during the day on nearby side streets.

Getting around

The 24-hour QUEEN streetcar, which goes to both subway lines, is a 3 minute walk away.

Other Things to Note

In all fairness, there is a condo project going up across the street (and around the corner - Toronto has condo building fever), but there is no construction noise on the weekends.

If you are confirmed to stay with me, please read my 'House Manual' in full before you arrive - it's chockers with useful information.

  • Paula was a fantastic host. She made sure our stay was very comfortable and care free. Her space was lovely, just like it appears in the pictures and located in a fun neighborhood. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Toronto.

  • It is a lovely place to stay in Toronto surrounded by a great neighbourhood with many galleries, nice restaurants and cafes! We really enjoyed our stay in Paul's apartment. A sweet little note welcomed us when we arrived! The entire time it was easy to communicate with Paula and she immediately answered all the questions, which occurred before and during our stay.
You can find everything you need in this apartment, even if you forgot something like tooth paste - it is in a little surviver box. :) The apartment is very clean and cozy. The most unique thing about the apartment is that it combines work and living space of an artist.
I highly recommend Paula's apartment if you want to have a great time in Toronto!

  • Paula's loft is stunning, cozy, clean, and a perfect location for exploring the best parts of Toronto. She was communicative, helpful, and accommodating. You know it's an artist's pad when the lighting is THAT good. Thanks, Paula!

  • Before arriving at her flat, Paula was welcoming and very helpful, going out of her way to accomodate our needs. As soon as we entered her place, we felt at home. Being in the space of an artist, which she is, is truly inspiring. It is quiet, and yet in the middle of a very busy part of town...a great combination! We will not hesitate to call on Paula for a future visit to Toronto.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights over Valentine's Day weekend. This was our first time using Airbnb, but everything about this place was spot on - the decoration, the comfortableness, Paula's accommodation, the neighbourhood - everything. Would definitely recommend, especially if you're into art and / or photography!

I have had the travel bug since I received (from my favourite older cousin), my first ever letter addressed to me; it was an thin, blue aerogramme, from Zambia where she was teaching. Bonnie had always visited our home as she drove through town while on her way to some fabulous adventure in a big city. It seemed amazing to my 10 year old self that a woman could just up & go to where ever she wanted; to New York or Africa - by herself. From that letter on, I wanted to be like her and TRAVEL. I did a bit over the course of my years (Top 5 places on Earth - so far - 1. Margaret River, Western Australia 2. Dubrovnik, Croatia 3. Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada 4. Big Sur, California 5. is a big city tie - Paris, NYC, Prague, Berlin, Sydney, Bangkok & Tokyo), and now, the bug has struck again. I am a non-smoking, vegetarian photographer who works days as a cultural consultant. I am quiet & tidy as a guest, and warm and thoughtful as a host. I love meeting, intelligent, artistic people and having a good yarn.
