There are no words to explain our Mearescourt experience and it will always hold a special place in our hearts as the place we GOT MARRIED!! George and Sarah are so welcoming and kind, and made us feel at home from the start. The home is a work of art, and the surrounding forrest with the deer and horses...we could not have imagined a more perfect place to exchange our vows. To not stay here would be to miss out on a once in a lifetime experience, and the people that live in and run Mearescourt are as much a part of the charm as the home itself.
Incredible! Beautiful home, lovely welcome, excellent hospitality, fabulous walk and all round wonderful!
We had the time of our lives at Mearescourt. The house itself is amazing - its old world charm and laid back atmosphere are a joy to experience. What makes this place extra special however is the exceptionally warm welcome that Sarah, George and friends extend to visitors. We had the run of the place. We were given wellies and coats to wander around the lake and forest and to see the magical deer and friendly horses. George, Sarah and Marti made our night out very special and we feel like we've met some friends for life . Go to Mearescourt and see for yourself! We'll probably be there as we intend going back quite a lot !
George and his son were very nice hosts. The home is definitely grand, but the hospitality simple. George told us he wants his guests to enjoy the home as though it were their own. You drive up a tree-lined, winding drive to arrive at the home - and it looks just like the picture. Along the way, you pass sheep and some cattle. The setting is quite beautiful.
We arrived later in the day and were greeted by George's son. He gave us a choice of two rooms and told us his dad was in the kitchen where we were welcome to go for tea, if we liked. It was getting late, so we decided to head off into town for some dinner instead. The house was very quiet when we returned about 10pm.
The next morning, we found our way to the kitchen, on the bottom floor, where George was cooking breakfast. He was very attentive and cooked up a wonderful Irish breakfast for my husband. I had tea with toast covered in George's homemade jam. Delicious! We had a very nice chat with George and learned a bit about the history of Mearsecourt.
This was just a quick overnight stop for us as we made our way from the western side of Ireland back to Dublin airport. Our stay was brief, but nice. I would only caution guests to understand that this is a very old home. The picture you see of the outside is accurate. It is striking when you drive up, possibly giving off the impression that a butler will be greeting you at the door. However, it is not run like a fancy hotel. The inside is full of old world charm that reflects the home's long history, but this is a home where George and his son live, and they welcome guests in a relaxed and comfortable manner. We were treated more like friends of the family, which we like. If that is the type of casual experience you enjoy, then Mearsecourt may be the place for you.
