Welcome to our nice and comfortable house in the middle of the old Haarlem center! Within minutes you are in one of the great places that Haarlem has to offer! The neighborhood is cozy, authentic and has a friendly atmosphere. The many restaurants and shops will give you a real town feel.
Haarlem is a lovely city, with lots and lots to do. There are many nice restaurants and bars, for instance the Jopenkerk with the famous local beer which is located at the end of the street (approx. 2 min. walk). The supermarket, cinema and other shops are available with just a 3 minutes walk.
Haarlem is an amazing place to shop, it has won the award for Best Shopping City in the Netherlands and the Kleine Houtstraat has been Best Shopping street two years in a row. A few beautiful museums like Teylers are definitely worth your visit too.
The beach is very nearby and easy to go to with public transport. Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport are approximately 15 to 20 minutes drive by car.
There are a few (paid) parking garages in the neighborhood while free parking is available within a 15 minute walk.
The house is located just a few minutes from most of the buses, very convenient!
Other Things to Note
Most important of all ... enjoy your stay :-)
- It is a no smoking house, there is a nice bench in the little courtyard where you can enjoy your cigarette and the neighborhood.
- Pets are not allowed
- We have very nice neighbors and want them to still like us too :)
Kortom super!
My husband & I stayed in Maarten's house in Haarlem for 4 nights. From the start Maarten answered any questions we had before & after arriving. He has Monique to welcome you with instructions , key, travel book of Amsterdam, many brochures of local attractions and a welcoming bottle of wine. It is a lovely house looking just a pictured on the internet. It is very central to everything in Haarlem. close walking to grocery, restaurants and pubs. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, although we ate out most of the time except for breakfast. We would definitely rent this location again. Beds & pillows very comfy, which is a must for me.
Fabulous place and a great location in Haarlem. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We had a great time at Maarten's house. It's a beautiful little house in a great location in the heart of Haarlem, an easy walk to everything, but on a quiet street. It's modern and well-equipped and we'd recommend it to anyone. The only real problem is the parking -- parking on the street is very expensive (3.90/hour!) so you have to park about a 10 minute walk away - a bit of a pain but not a huge problem. The stairs might concern some parents with small kids but ours (6 & 3) managed them fine.
We had a wonderful time in Maarten's house, which is very comfortable, clean and cozy. I have to say: Maarten was a perfect host. We didn't meet himself, but he always answered quick on e-mails and prepared a "welcome-package" with information about the house and Haarlem. Great service! For us (two adults and one toddler) it was a perfect location to explore Haarlem, because the centre of the city is nearby - as well as a supermarket and the railwaystation. This was our first Airbnb-experience and we are glad that we had a host like Maarten. We would always rent his house again.
About the Host, Maarten
Hmmmmm...... where to start :-).
Let's start with facts I can't live without: 1. Laughter 2. Music 3. Good food and wine (I know that's two, but I hate to break them up) 4. Connection with myself and others 5. Travel 6. Family and friends.
Books - Lonely Planets :-)
Movies - The best non Hollywood movies
Music - Almost all
Food - Almost all
I have many favorite travel destinations, but am more excited about the places I have yet to see. As a Host, you will find that I am polite, accommodating, and engaging. I would strive to have your experience be filled with joy, laughter, and good memories. As a guest, I am also polite, and being prone to being of service, I am still probably accommodating! My style of travel is usually no definite itinerary and "let's see where this takes us" detours.
My life motto: Keep Learning and Exploring
