Guest Access

There is no public transit into town. I will provide transportation to or from Chico airport. Transporter service to/from Sacramento Airport.

Interaction with Guests

I respect guest's privacy, and though I very much enjoy visiting with guests, I try to be aware of folks itineraries, obligations and plans and let everyone determine how they wish to interact while at the house.

The Neighborhood

Quiet neighborhood and a nice place to take walks; an old agricultural area with a few small orchards and fields. Lots are from 1-4 acres, plus ours of 23 acres.
NOTE: $60 total nightly for 2 adults; $20 nightly for each additional adult guest; no charge for children under $12. $10 cleaning fee. Ex.: 2 = $60, + third adult, $20, one 3-year-old: Total $90.

Getting around

Five-minutes from downtown Chico, a university town, with many art galleries, music and theater venues and events. Ride bikes or walk in Bidwell Park, tour Bidwell Mansion, check out the Gateway Science Museum (kid friendly) and Chico Museum, farmers markets, music ...

Other Things to Note

NOTE: I have two listings on Airbnb under this house:
1) Country House, which includes the entire upper level.
2) Country House "Red Bedroom," which includes only one of the bedrooms.
Different private parties - singles who don't mind sharing a bathroom and shower - may book same dates if both are amenable to this; I always check with both parties; first one booked decides.

  • This is our second visit with Sally and look forward to the next visit! We love her country farmhouse which is a few minutes from town. Beautiful property and neighborhood. The room was very clean and comfortable. Sally is a fantastic host and lays out a lovely continental breakfast. Delicious coffee! Thank you Sally for a great experience!

  • Sally was super and her place very comfortable! Our visit was a bit on the short-notice side and she was very helpful in sending out the directions and need-to-know info quickly. I liked how close to Chico her place is while being in a more rural setting.

She gave us our choice of rooms--all three were appealing in different ways. I loved the feeling of the kitchen area being a part of the original old farmhouse. I had the feeling of stepping back in time--while keeping all the modern amenities. I'd have loved to stay longer.

She has very thoughtfully provided everything a visitor might need, from toiletries, local info, chocolate in the room =) A rustic, true BnB experience (i.e. not just a room in someone's house).

We talked in the morning over breakfast (which she kindly provided and was fresh & tasty) and I enjoyed how quickly we were able to fall into interesting conversation.

  • A most pleasant family experience for us. Sally was warm, gracious and attentive to our needs. She's "thought of everything" to help the stay be welcoming—going above and beyond to make our family comfortable. Toys were custom selected for our two-year-old. The beds were comfy. The rooms were spacious. The coffee was uncommonly delicious. We'd be happy to return again someday.

  • We couldn't have dreamed of a kinder host or better accommodation for our family. Sally's home is impeccable, tastefully decorated, spacious and her beautiful garden is a peaceful and educational little gem. It is steps away from the city, yet you feel a world away. Very unique and refreshing after a long travel. Sally was sweet with our children and exceptionally patient and understanding with the chaos of having a one and four year old as guests in her home. My four year old enjoyed her company and was always looking for her, and there were many times where Sally played with him and worked with him in the garden. She also has fun toys! We were very comfortable in her home, she makes everything you could ever need accessible and she provides so many little extras - we loved the little chocolate treat in the room, and the great coffee and offerings of cereals, juices, and fruits. We were crazy for the oranges and loquats that we picked and ate off of her fruit trees. We really felt home there, and we loved Sally's company. Whether you are looking for solitude or enjoy good company, Sally has the gift of understanding and respecting an individual's personal needs. She is the perfect host. We can't wait to visit her the next time we are in town.

  • My family stayed in Sally's three bedrooms (including children 1 and 4) and we had a terrific time. The home was just as described. The beds we quite comfortable. Sally was most accommodating to us and had lots of options available to us for breakfast, including delicious homemade bread! She was sensitive to privacy needs, but we like talking to people so we had some nice chats. Neighborhood is terrific for quiet, leisurely strolls. I highly recommend this property. Only 5 minutes from CSU Chico campus, yet quiet as it is on the edge of town.

  • We really enjoyed our time at Sally's house. She was a very gracious host, always helpful and considerate of our needs. The house is comfortable and clean. Just like staying with friends. Beds are fine and shower/bathroom facilities, while not luxurious, are functional and clean.

The house is in the country and so the neighborhood is quiet except for the charming noises of the country evening (birds chirping, crickets, etc).

Sally put out a breakfast that was just to our liking- breads, cereals, juices, yogurt and of course lots of coffee. She is quite a supporter of organic foods and if you get her talking about it, you will find its her passion, which is why she has the farm. Still, she is not at all obnoxious or arrogant about it and i enjoyed my talks with her about it (we are both early risers).

If you want 5 star pampering, go somewhere else. If you want to stay at a nice quiet friend's house, then Sally's country house is a good choice.

  • The minute I pulled in to Sally’s driveway I knew I was going to love her place!
Large spacious farm house set in a beautiful area of Chico. Rooms where super clean and very comfortable. We were only there the one night for the Chico Wildflower ride but I wish we could have stayed for a week!

  • Sally and her lovely house exceeded my expectations in every way. The rooms, (yes ROOMS, I had three of them all to myself), were all comfortable, clean, and fully stocked with everything you could need: chocolate, books, robe, etc. The bathroom was even more generously stocked, Sally thought of everything a person could have forgot: toothbrush, shampoo, insect repellent, etc. The property her house sits on is beautiful, lots of plants to enjoy and explore. There is patio furniture outside that I encourage everyone to enjoy. Not only was Sally's home a pleasure to stay in, her presence added to the experience. She was warm, welcoming, incredibly generous, and very in tune with other people's habits & needs. If you want to hangout chat and watch t.v. together, she is open to that, if you want quiet and privacy she totally respects that as well. Overall I would give Sally's County House a 5+ Stars out of 5 and I would love to stay there again.
