Spacious studio flat with garden in Brighton!
With it's own entrance and free parking nearby (Hartingdon Rd), this flat is just a 5 minute bus ride into Brighton Town or a 20 minute walk, and is on many bus routes. The Studio itself is also used for Yoga and Dance sessions, so is spacious and inspiring! It has its own entrance, a kitchenette and a bathroom, and an open fire for those cosy winter evenings. The Studio space itself has wooden floorboards, a few plants and is adorned by Buddhas and an eastern decor.
The bed and seatings are low, so it may not be for you if you prefer dining at a high table with chairs... Overall the place can be adapted to sleep more people as it is very spacious, with japanese screens to create private sleeping areas. It is perfect for relaxing, being with friends and visiting the great City of Brighton!
Please note that the kitchenette is basic-a small electric oven with 2 hobs, sink, fridge, crockery, cutlery & glasses... Teas are included though (help yourself to make up for the small oven!)
The bath tub is lovely to relax in- less practical for showers as the ceiling is low.
Please note that there are a couple of comments about people wondering into the space during a stay, this is because both of these guests stayed longer than our agreed departure time and therefore a yoga/massage class was due to start. This is also a working studio so please expect that set up and ensure that you depart on time so that you don't have any unexpected visitors!
It really is a beautiful, relaxing space though so I hope that you can enjoy the chilled atmosphere and spaciousness- rare in Brighton!
Communication was great at first with Jo and she was so welcoming, but when she went away and Anna took over i struggled to contact her and it did stress me out a bit before the trip! we were told we could be at flat from 6:30 but arrived at 7 and a class was on inside the studio, and the door was opened a crack and we were told to wait until he was finished as he had it booked until 7:30. We had to stand in the rain for 30 minutes until they all left. Flat itself is a good space, the futon bed needs looking at, one side of it has completely collapsed. So was a relaxing space but slept as though id crashed on someones floor and was upset that after stating and double checking so many times we still weren't able to get in the flat on time. :( As its used for relaxing therapies, the studio is also very dimly lit, which is nice. Just spent the whole trip in fear someone else would come in in the morning before we left. Also is probably a little further than a 15 minute walk into town, its around half an hour, but we got taxis as was torrential rain. I wouldn't stay again I'm afraid, it didnt run very smoothly for me and that isnt what you want when on holiday.
The studio is beautiful.
When we got there one of the heaters was on so it was warm which was super nice.
All was explained through email and there are little cards around the studio so one doesn't get lost. Also Jo was available anytime we would have needed her.
The place was super clean and felt great.
Kitchen is enough to make breakfast and hot drinks.
Bathroom and showering was a bit of a let down: Although it looks great, it is not practical. We ended up splashing water all over the bathroom floor after each shower. Just because it's in an odd configuration and the ceiling is very low. Also we seemed to have chase game with hot water, hot water would rush for 30 seconds, then cold water for like 2 minutes and then another boost of hot water for a few seconds. Great to wake you up!
When checking out... Before Jo showed up at all, two of her students came into the studio while we were packing up, finishing brushing our teeth, getting ready to leave basically. This girl and this guy just came in, went to use the bathroom, then they were hanging out at the main space while we were finishing packing up. I offered them teas because I thought they were so cheeky they had earned it. Anyways we thought was a funny and harmless.
Overall the experience was good.
Really enjoyed my stay and Jo was a fantastic host.
The studio is stunning, lots of space and in walking distance to the laines.
Lovely atmosphere, though definately a "working" or "studio" atmosphere - kitchen not good, no real cooking facilities though lovely tea selection. Beautiful decor, intimate seating arrangements, lovely bathroom, very clean yet warm and inviting space.
A good all round space with tonnes of room to spread out in.
Everything that was listed was absolutely as described. Very clean and tidy and Jo was super helpful and very accommodating.
The kitchen space was more limited than we had expected. Making something simple like a bacon sandwich was a slight challenge but none the less achievable. Think this was more about our own expectations rather than anything misleading from our wonderful host. The bath is adorable, free standing, roll top like in the movies but if you have a rugby players shoulders then you like I might struggle a little fitting in. Not that it was a problem as a shower was on hand for an interesting fusion bath/shower experience.
All in all a lovely pad. The huge amounts of overall room in the main area makes the stay really enjoyable.
Would recommend and go back
We booked a one night stay at Jo's studio flat and we were really pleased we did. It really is very spacious and has everything you would need for a short stay.
It's about a 10 minute walk from Brighton station and we jumped on the bus down to the seafront - very easy to do.
The outdoor area is lovely and a really nice place to take in the morning sun. Would recommend staying here and we'll probably use it again.
