Parking and traffic in Old San Juan is challenging to say the least. I suggest forgoing car rental when staying here. Take a cab from the airport for $25 and walk the old city. The Sheraton Hotel has a Hertz car rental desk for day/ road trips around the island.

I have two profiles with two price options for this apartment. The rate quoted on this profile is for the entire apt rental and found under (ROOM TYPE: Entire home/ apt).

I live fulltime in Brooklyn, New York where I run a huge loft guest house. I just acquired this apartment on my last trip to San Juan when I once again fell in love with this magical city. It's my escape from New York. However when I'm not here it can be your escape from... (fill in your City here). Shoot me an email with the dates you'd like to escape.

  • We had such a great time staying here! The location is amazing and so were Edward and Eva. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!! Literally it could not have been better!

  • Our host was great in arranging everything beforehand. Her guy on the ground (Edward) was amazingly helpful. We actually got in a day early before the rental started and edward helped us find another hotel for the night. The neighborhood was great and the apartment was beautiful. Would totally recommend again!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay, the view was spectacular, the apartment charming, and the location unbeatable (you won't fully appreciate these comments until you see it). Edward was our host and he always came through with some great recommendations.

We did rent a car for three days so that we could venture around the island. Since parking is a bear, we used the parking garage next to the Sheraton, it was a half mile walk to the apartment which was fine for us since we would grab breakfast on the way to and take in the nightlife on the way back.

The old city has a little for everyone, shopping, great restaurants, night life, and history. This was perfect for us, and I highly recommend it. I hope that we can stay here again when we return.

  • Our hostess was away, so a friend of hers named Edward stepped in to be our host. He was very gracious! I was the first of my family to arrive, and at a terrible time: after 12 midnight on a Thursday! However, Edward was at the apartment waiting for me and greeted me as if it was 3 in the afternoon. Edward then showed me all I needed to know about the apartment, gave me a map of Old San Juan, described the neighborhood, and took me on the terrace to see that beautiful view. He also gave me his cell phone and told me to text anytime, and I did. He ALWAYS responded quickly, and thanks to him we were able to visit the places where the locals eat and hang out, which is how we like to travel. It was an excellent visit and we hope to return.

  • This appartment has great views and location could`nt be better inthe old town.We were met by Evelyn who was charming and had lots of useful information. However the appartment was a bit of a let down, The bed was very uncomfortable with a thin mattress and the shutters were broken and impossible to close, hence the room was constantly light. There were 3 ceiling fans in the living space of which only 1 was working. Generally the kitchen eqiiptment was very old and could do with being updated. Despite the advert saying that there was a washer drier in the appartment the only one was a coin opperated one on the ground floor- down four flights of stairs.

  • Eva and Shell were great, as is their apartment. The terrace/balcony is where we spent most of our time and is to die for. It's large, breezy and offers a beautiful view of the water and neighborhood. And it is covered by a retractable awning that offers shade if the sun gets too hot. It's also great to have the kitchen appliances and an air-conditioned bedroom. The building the apartment is located in is charming. Most of all, for animal lovers, the many neighborhood cats are a pleasure, social, endearing, and well-behaved. Old San Juan is one of our all-time favorite places. This was our third visit. The food is outstanding, the people friendly and polite, and the brick streets and rolling hills gorgeous. Thanks for hosting us.

  • We had a great stay at Shel's place in Old San Juan. The balcony overlooking the bay was absolutely the best. Evelyn was very helpful and took great care to make sure we had a comfortable and fun stay. She even arranged a cab to the airport on our day of departure. This apartment is close to everything! Rent it!

  • This apartment is all about the view and the location. We thoroughly enjoyed the people watching that the terrace provided and being so close to the fort and restaurants. San Juan is covered in cats, who, it seems, are fed and cared for by many of the residents. Thus, we were often greeted by friendly felines leaving and returning to the apartment. There are probably a dozen that consider the area in front of the apartment home. They had just (email hidden) unit in the bedroom which was much appreciated by my husband. This however, did make it really chilly in the room at night and there were only sheets on the bed, so if you and your spouse have differing temperature preferences, bring a blanket or ask that one be provided. Fortunately I brought a sweater and leggings I could sleep in! You do have to hike up a few floors, so keep this in mind and opt for backpacks or duffles instead of heavy rolling suitcases. Since we spent a lot of time with the terrace doors open we ended up with a fair number of mosquitos, but they weren't as bad as the ones at home (Houston) so they didn't really bother us too much. While the apartment itself is pretty basic, it's really the view and location that give this five stars!

  • We loved our stay at Shell's Apartment. My fiance and I traveled to Old San Juan for our elopement + honeymoon. It was fun finding the apartment and seeing the photos from airbnb come to life - but better! It's on the 3rd story but you only have to carry your bags up once... The tall doors open onto the patio so it's breezy, fun and local experience. A nice surprise was the ac unit in the bedroom - great for sleeping. We didn't have any bug problems even with leaving the doors open. The bathroom was clean and had guest supplies in case you forget sunscreen, conditioner, qtips.. It seemed like they had everything!
The location is definitely walkable - we walked around the whole of Old San Juan and none of it was too far. We did have a rental car so we could visit other parts of PR, we had to find street parking but it was do-able. The skinny streets make for interesting parallel parking!
The apartment had everything the listing promises, nice simple, local decor and she had put out some fresh cut plants for us. The key pick-up + drop-off was super easy. Would and will definitely recommend!

I found this massive loft 2 years ago through a friend. So excited to find such an extremely rare space I signed a lease and moved in immediately before I even new what to do with it. Flash forward 2 years and I now find myself living with a Zimbabwean film producer running a communal share house aka (mini Bed & Breakfast) out of my loft. Rita (Zim film producer) and I met when she stayed at my loft for 2 weeks while looking for permanent accommodations in New York. Those permanent accommodations turned out to be at my loft where she’s become co-host to our house of international guests and the occasional Aussie refugee. My obsession with collecting mid-century furniture and flea market gems has hopefully made each of our three guest rooms as well as the rest of the loft a unique and comfortable space for our guests to call home. We recently starting a new tradition of cooking brunch every Sunday with our guests and friends. I’ve taken all the cooking lessons I fought my mother over as a youth, combined them with some new tricks to make them healthier and this has created the template for our brunch menu. Add guest contributions like orange flour-less cake from the Aussie Master chef contestant who stayed with us recently, or authentic Italian homemade pasta from the Milano girls. Food, and an international modge-podge of friendly folks discussing life from around the globe have made Sundays the most anticipated day of the week. Turning my loft into a communal space to be shared with travelers who become friends has been the most positively life altering decision I’ve ever made. With each passing person the experience gets exponentially greater. As characters in a great novel each guest who stays seems to unfold a little more of the story. I can’t ask for a better life. Rita and I look forward to meeting you soon.
