Set in parklike surroundings in the small geothermal township of Tokaanu, metres from Lake Taupo, and at the entrance of Tongariro National park.

Tokaanu Lodge Motel offers a unique setting to unwind, relax and reconnect with nature. It is the perfect place to chill after a day adventuring in the area or a great place to stop and rest a while.

Our rooms are spacious, warm, and comfortable. Each room also has a mezzanine floor with 3 single beds, its own kitchen, bathroom and personal balcony.

The space
Our on-site thermal mineral pools are available free to guests to absorb their healing properties and relax tired muscles after a day skiing on the mountains, fly fishing in the rivers, or tramping in the national park.

Tokaanu Lodge Motel is located near an active geothermal field and we have our own bore on the property. Choose between an indoor freshwater swimming pool (5m x 4m) or 1 of 3 indoor private pools. (2 of which are mineral based.)

We have a big focus on sustainable practices and are doing our best to support our beautiful natural environment.

We are also pet friendly.

Guest access
Your unit consists of one bedroom with a queen bed and also a mezzanine floor with 3 single beds which is accessed via a staircase from the lounge area. There is an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area and a separate bathroom/toilet.
You have your own balcony space and access to a trampoline and large garden area with picnic table and BBQ on request. You also have full access to our relaxing mineral and fresh water pools.

Other things to note
We have a couple of our rooms that have full ovens and the others with microwave oven grills. If you require an oven please check availability before confirming the booking.
We also have bigger rooms available if you need something bigger. Please let us know how we can meet your needs :)

I consider this part of NZ to be one of the adventure capitals of our beautiful country. You can get out and explore all that the natural world has to offer - there is fishing, walking, hiking, biking, rafting, running, skiing, boating and more – the possibilities are endless! This place is an adventure waiting to happen!
Lake Taupo is a 2 minutes walk away. Whakapapa Village and the ski fields are a 25 minute drive (42km). The start of the Tongaririo Alpine Crossing is a 20 minute drive. Taupo is approximately 40-45 minutes away (dependent on traffic).

Hi, My name is Sheryl. I took over this motel in September 2018 and we are slowly upgrading and renovating the premises. I have a big passion in sustainability and eco friendly practices so will be doing our best to bring this into my business. This is a family friendly, pet friendly motel with an emphasis on relaxing, getting outdoors and having fun. New Zealand is a beautiful country and lately I have been making the most of my love for tramping and running through the forest, bush and mountains of NZ. This is something I want to spend a lot more time doing and I am lucky enough to have a great place here to be able to do that!! Can certainly recommend some good tramps/hikes in the area if this is something you are interested in! I like to think I'm really laid back so if you choose to stay at our motel you will find a relaxed atmosphere where you can come and go as you please. Each unit has its own veranda and there is a big outdoor space where you can relax and enjoy a wine and a good book. We also have our very our thermal mineral pools and heated fresh water pools on site. I look forward to meeting you!

During your stay
As the owner of this awesome motel, I welcome you to join me for a hot cuppa or a beer to chat about this wonderful part of NZ and all it has to offer. We have a dart board set up, plenty of room for a bit of back yard cricket and a great selection of books if all you want to do is sit in the sun and read.
