The Carrollton/Riverbend neighborhood is a lively diverse area which offers a multitude of restaurants, coffee shops, bars and music venues. For breakfast fresh baked breads and pastries are just a short walk from the house at Breads on Oak, eat there or bring back to the garden. Further down Oak is Oak Street Cafe for a hardier breakfast and live music. Take advantage of some great happy hours all along the street 5-7pm at Oak or Ale and as the sunsets the action gets going at the famous Jacques-imo's "Real Nawlins" restaurant while waiting for a table have some charbroiled oysters fresh from the curbside grill and indulge in local beers from the Maple Street bar and music venue next door. Walk a few blocks more from Oak down tree lined Carrollton and enjoy Bourree a Cajun smokehouse or Lebanon, great middle eastern food then stop in at the Carrollton Station Bar to see who's playing. A short drive or Uber ride takes you to Maple Street, Satsuma for breakfast and fresh juices, Chaise Delachaise for the best mussels and frites or Freret St, High Hat for lunch and The Cure for the best craft cocktails around! Now that you're full you may want to take a nice walk or bike along the river just a short walk away. From the levee you can make your way to the "Fly" in back of beautiful Audubon Park along the river. See the big ships pass and the mighty Mississippi flow..great for chilling. Make your way to the front of the park past the Audubon Zoo and the Golf Course to Oak lined St. Charles Ave. with Tulane and Loyola universities across the street. There(also by Oak St.) you can catch our famous streetcar line and for $1.25(exact change only) you can take a leisurely ride, pass beautiful homes to the Garden District with Commanders Palace(25 cent martini's at lunch), Lafayette cemetery, Magazine St. Continue on to Canal St. where you can get off and enter the French Quarter, museums, shop, eat, and drink some more or go into the CBD for a rooftop view from the Ace Hotel! End your night listening to LOTS of music on Frenchman St.( at the back of the FQ) then uber/lyft back (about 15 minutes) to the Riverbend and your cozy bed!

I was born and raised in this beautifully diverse and unique culture of New Orleans. I have worked as a fine art photographer, curator, teacher, travel photographer, and author of “Elysium, A Gathering of Souls, New Orleans Cemeteries” . My fine art photographs have been widely exhibited in the USA and abroad and have also appeared in Vogue, Elle, The Traveler and numerous publications on photography. My passions include art and culture, design, travel, especially Italy, France, Spain and gardens of all kinds and last but not least my wild and crazy hometown of New Orleans!! My husband and co-host, Evert, grew up in Haarlem, The Netherlands and is an abstract painter. During a trip to the USA we met at a gallery in New Orleans. Evert returned to New Orleans as a visiting artist of painting and drawing at Loyola University and later he moved from Haarlem to New Orleans where we got married and now reside. Evert is regarded as an established New Orleans artist and represented by the Cole Pratt Gallery on Magazine St. Evert speaks Dutch and English of course but also a little German and French. Evert and I have many of the same interests and both love welcoming visitors to New Orleans and sharing our recommendations for our favorite local places! Being a host is a great way to introduce new visitors to the real New Orleans and its many diverse neighborhoods, restaurants and events. As Hosts we are open, flexible and want to ensure that you have everything you need for a comfortable and memorable stay in New Orleans!
