Comfortable and private for two guests, Casa Bambu, sister house to Casa Rica, is located in a gated 5 acre tropical garden of fruit trees and exotic plants. The scent of ylang ylang trees perfume the air and the view from your porch is of large Guanacaste trees, exotic flowers, and the jungle faced coastal mountain range. The fruit garden provides a bounty of seasonal bananas, starfruit, coconuts, mango, citrus and more.
The accommodations include an extra comfortable queen bed with a pillow top mattress. The full bathroom and kitchen, and spacious screened porch bring all the comforts of home. There is a security safe for valuables. From the screened-in porch, the mountain and garden views are beautiful with many birds and butterflies making their home, including morphos - the electric blue butterfly. There is a private outdoor jacuzzi tub on the deck for your evening star gazing enjoyment, or for a cooler dip in the afternoon.
Of special note on the premises is "Palm Spa", which offers convenient spa treatments for your pleasure and relaxation.
The garden is ever changing with seasonal fruits and flowers at hand for your enjoyment. There are paths throughout the 5 acre estate which will lead you through exotic flowers, the zen garden, the Labyrinth, through bamboo groves to the Spa House, the meditation stream, or wherever you wander. You may hear the call of the area resident rainbow macaws, along with many other bird species.
For those desiring an occasional "plug in", there is an open air pavilion on premises for WIFI, DVD or TV viewing. Weekly yoga classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Private yoga classes can also be arranged.
Casa Bambu is located 3 minutes from the scenic and paved Costa Rican Pacific coastal highway. No 4wd vehicle is necessary to access this property. This retreat will feel remote, but is convenient to activities the area has to offer. Though we encourage guests to rent a vehicle for more freedom for exploring, the village of Ojochal has much to offer and groceries and restaurants can be accessed by foot or by the supplied mountain bikes. Also local taxi or tour bus can do front door pick-ups for your tour needs.
The village of Ojochal is ideal for lovers of gourmet cuisine with a number of the area's finest restaurants. There's also a popular French bakery nearby with delicious fresh, warm-from-the-oven breads, and a Licorea for those looking for special ingredients to cook at home.
Just 5 minutes away is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, Playa Ventanas, and the popular surfer's beach in Dominical, is approximately 30 minutes north. The newly built San Buenas Golf Course is 10 minutes south, and many other local attractions are close by; horseback riding, zip lines, ATV tours, off shore fishing and boating, etc.. For book lovers there is the village library within walking distance, or you can ride the two mountain bikes provided for your enjoyment as well.
For those considering a more permanent situation in Costa Rica, we will be happy to guide you to trustworthy people who can show you available properties in the area.
A perfect retreat, honeymoon hideaway, or for the solitude of one, Casa Bambu is a place which can be a comfortable home base for exploring the riches of Costa Rica, or a private hideaway to rest and revive. .
Our time at Casa Bambu was a dream come true! Going to Costa Rica had been on my "bucket list" for a number of years. My husband was happy to leave the ice storm behind in Toronto and enjoy the heat and sunshine in a tropical location. He, however, was unprepared for how quickly he would fall in love with this little piece of heaven on earth. Being able to call Casa Bambu home for the week while we explored the south/central Pacific side of the country was like being in paradise. There was a symphony of sound morning, noon, and night. We had fresh fruit to eat every day and a very safe and welcoming environment to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The gourmet restaurants in the little town of Ojochal were phenomenal - whenever we chose to take a break from the delicious tico food we found nearby. My husband took hundreds of photos of the flora and fauna on the many fantastic excursions Mac and Sharon had suggested. The pictures and descriptions on the site are quite accurate, but you really don't get the full impact of the beauty of this magical location until you arrive. We got to meet with the other guests on a number of occasions and even enjoyed a wonderful evening with our hosts as they shared their experiences of living in Costa Rica. We left with a lump in our throats, sad to go, but sure to return - hopefully for a much longer stay.
What a find this place was! The directions from the hosts were sot ona dn we found the place with no problems. We enjoyed our stay at Casa Bambu very much. It was an extremely comfortable apartment which was clean, tidy and calm. It is well equipped with all we needed and is the perfect sized place for a couple. The shower was great and the hot tub was an absolute delight to have on hand; easy to use and private. Mac and Sharon were lovely; they clearly care about their property and the service they provide. They were accomodating, welcoming and always around for anything we needed yet were not invasive of our personal space at all. The village of Ojochal was sweet- we enjoyed eating out, staying in, going to the beach and a spectacular sunset!
This place is an absolute paradise!! I stayed at Casa Bambu for 4 nights with my girlfriend and it was by far our favorite place to stay on our entire trip to Costa Rica!! it's run by two of the most wonderful people, Sharon and Mac, who were so welcoming, kind, and helpful.....they really made our stay there an incredible one.
The property is full of tropical fruits (which we used for smoothies each day :) ) and tons of exotic plants/flowers (it's amazing). We biked to one of the most beautiful beaches we've ever been to, Ventanas, and managed to hitch rides there and back for a second round (the locals here are very friendly). It's also very true, Ojochal has some really good restaurants to choose from. Exotica was definitely our favorite.
Highly HIGHLY recommend staying here and seriously can't wait to plan another trip back. ENJOY!
Mac and Sharon are awesome hosts, they are both extremely welcoming and informative. Their property is beautiful and offers lots of shade for the very hot days. The gardens are exquisite with beautiful flowers and trees.
Casa Bambu is quaint and has enough amenities to accommodate your stay. The screened in porch is an excellent place to curl up on the comfortable furniture and read your favorite book while listening to the bird symphony in the surrounding trees.
The bedroom is exactly as the picture shows; the bed is firm but comfortable. There is limited storage so pack light.
The bathroom is small but functional. The shower offers plenty of hot-water after a long day on the many available nearby beaches or excursions in the rainforest.
The kitchen is equipped enough to prepare a small meal if you are looking to stay in, otherwise Ojochal has many nice restaurants to choose from.
The center platform is very nice place to sit and connect to WiFi or catch up on the world with the available television. Yoga classes are offered three times week for a small additional fee.
Casa Bambu is a great place to either stay local and rest or use as a central hub to return to after activity filled days.
Thank you Mac and Sharon!
Mac and Sharon were absolutely fantastic.
They really took care of my every need during my stay at Casa Bambu, provided a perfect environment for my meditation based getaway and couldn't have been more helpful.
I'd HIGHLY recommend staying at Casa Bambu :)
Easy, affordable and the hosts were very welcoming. They were also able to help us with any questions we needed answered regarding car rentals and services. For tourists, its a great place to ease your way into the costa rica way.
We LOVED staying here. It is a very beautiful area, you have gorgeous beaches all to yourself and Mac and Sharon are amazing hosts. We had our bag and phone stolen (in Uvita...never leave anything laying around if you want to keep it) and they helped us so much with our car, changing our passwords and helping us stay in touch with our family. They know all of the great places and their property is beautiful and immaculate. We loved our time just walking around, and the porch on the Casa Bambu was a fun place to wind down after a long day. Thank you for everything!
My boyfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful stay in our little slice of paradise :) Sharon and Mac were fabulous hosts who helped us with everything - from renting a car down the road to recommending things to do and insuring that we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. When we arrived (got a private transfer from the airport so we didn't have to drive ourselves), Sharon gave us a little welcome package that included tasty banana bread, fruit from their property and eggs from their own chickens! We used the screened in porch and comfortable couch everyday to read and relax, and LOVED the hot tub (made it a cooler temperature of course) to unwind at the end of the day. There's also a little pond just off the entrance to casa bambu where we fed the ducks :) The bed is super comfortable and there's also ample storage for your things and a safe for valuables. We were able to access wifi right from our room. Can't say enough about the beauty of the property and our stay!
Ojochal is a great little town about 3 hours away from the airport with AMAZING restaurants. Our favourites were Ylang Ylang, Mama e Papa and Citrus. Head to Bavaria if you want something more casual and just good ol beers and pizza. Make sure to bring a little flash light though if you plan to walk at night, because most of the roads in Costa Rica are not lit. Ojochal is also in close proximity to gorgeous beaches (Playa Tortuga is the closest just off the highway), national parks (Marina Ballena & Manuel Antonio), a waterfall (Pavones) and great activities. Our favourite was learning to surf with Bodhi Surf in Uvita. Make sure to email the Uvita Information Centre to book your tours, they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time.
If you're planning to go to Costa Rica, staying at Casa Bambu in Bali Rica will make for a great vacation.
Casa Bambu was a great introduction for us to Costa Rica. loved Mac and Sharon,s place and their generosity in sharing yoga, labyrinth and the meditative walks through the trees. We loved the area, choice of two first class restaurants in Ojochal, then watching dolphins and humpback whales. just wish it had been possible to stay longer.
