Some info about Barranquilla - Curramba
Also called La Arenosa (the sandy one) and Curramba la Bella (Curramba the beautiful), Barranquilla was founded around 1629. It is the main river and sea port of the country, and its historic center was declared a national monument in 1959. Several waves of immigrants have enriched its traditions and given the city its metropolitan and deeply joyful character.
The buildings in El Prado neighborhood exhibit a Mediterranean architecture adapted to the Caribbean. Among the cultural compounds are the Teatro Amira de la Rosa and the Estadio Metropolitano.
Located not too far from the Equator, the city has a year-round tropical climate, averaging almost 90°F (32°C). From December through March the trade winds bring relief from heat. The rainy season usually begins late in May and continues through October, when there are showers nearly every day, although the skies are mostly clear during the month of July when an odd season known as the San Juan Summer prevails.

Circumstances prevented Martha from being there, but she did an excellent job communicating with us about that. Her family members that stayed at the house were very helpful. It is safe. Eat breakfast at Recuerdos de mi Tierra.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Martha's lovely house in Barranquilla during Carnaval. The location is perfect and Martha was extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you!
We had a lovely stay. Family warmth, kindness and great breakfasts. Martha even took us for a Sunday drive to show us her city. Although our stay was brief, we left feeling that new friendships were made, and that is worth the journey.
I felt at home from the very beginning of my stay. The location is excellent! Martha was very attentive and diligently gave me information of what to do during my stay. A good part of Barranquilla cultural and historic places are at a walking distance from the house. In addition, Martha's family and the house itself offer a complete and real experience of what Barranquilla is, from the the food to their joyful sense of humor, and the jargon the use. The breakfasts are meant to keep you going until 2pm: delicious and served with the secret ingredient of a lively morning chat! Finally, staying at Barranquilla worked perfectly for me since I wanted to visit Cartagena and Santa Marta (and Parque Tayrona). Overall, awesome!
Martha is a wonderful host! We stayed at her lovely home in Barranquilla during carnival and Martha did so much more than renting out a room. She made great breakfast and helped us finding restaurants and places where we could celebrate carnival. The room was comfortable and the house was situated in a nice neighborhood. Whenever we are coming back to Colombia we would love to stay at her place again!
My friend Hannah & I stayed with Martha during Barranquilla's Carnaval, and we're quite sure that the reason we enjoyed it as much as we did was simply due to Martha's hospitality and her kind heart. She made us feel more like friends than guests - any visitor to her home will be a lucky one. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer! Thank you, Martha!
