511A East Blithedale Avenue
Welcome to 511A E. Blithedale. We have put together this information to assist you but feel free to call, text, or just pop upstairs with any questions you may have. My cell number is (phone number hidden).
Your apartment has a wireless internet connection with a network named ATT992. The passcode for the connection is (phone number hidden). There is a printer for your use as well. It is wireless, but it is probably easiest to attach it to your computer with the provided USB cord.
Your television is connected to satellite tv provider Direct TV. To turn it on press the on button in the upper right corner of the Direct TV remote (white). This should turn on the satellite box as well as the television. The guide button on the remote will give you a list of channels. Most of the major network channels are from channel 2-40.
The espresso machine. This is a lovely machine that makes a morning espresso or cappuccino beautifully. It looks harder than it is. There is an quick instruction guide on the counter next to it. The water and coffee are already in it so it is ready to go. There are more coffee beans in the pantry when you run out.
The sink has a small chrome faucet on the right side which is filtered water. Our water is excellent coming straight from the snow melt on the peaks of the sierra mountains so drinking the tap water is also fine.
There is also a soda stream soda maker available for your use. The bottles of water in the fridge are already done for you but if you would like more, simply fill the bottles with water only to the fill line. Screw the bottles to the machine, and press the button on top three times until it makes a squelch sound. Pressing the top will make a swooshing sound but it is not complete until the squelch. Simply unscrew and voila, fizzy water.
Our climate is similar to the mild coastal mediterranean climate of Italy. It is generally warm and sunny during the day and cool and clear at night in summer. The apartment's heat is connected to our's upstairs and so it often does not kick on in summer. There is a space heater that you might want to keep on low overnight. It has an auto off feature but please only place it on a hard surface and do not leave it on if you are not at home.
The residents of Marin County are great stewards of the beautiful land we inhabit. Our waste system reflects this commitment. Our garbage is divided into recycling, compost, and trash. Most hard plastic items are recyclable in our community. Plastic wrapping and bags are not recyclable. Along with hard plastics, metal containers, all paper and cardboard cartons are all recyclable. In the compost goes all animal, vegetable, and plant byproducts including food soiled paper like napkins and paper towels. Most of the takeout containers in Marin are also compostable. Even bones and fat is able to be composted in our industrial compost system. Most of the waste generated should be either compost or recycling. We mostly throw in trash any plastic wrapping that comes on items. Ice cream containers are the one exception to the compost and recycling, alas, they are just trash. Outside the house the green waste is for compost, the blue bin is for recycling, and the small black bin is for traditional trash.
There is a Whole Foods Market down the street. Make a left out of the driveway towards the highway. At the second stop light make a left. There will be two left turn lanes, stay in the one on the right. Shortly after making the left you will make a right into a shopping center on the right. Follow this in to the Whole Foods. They have a wonderful selection of prepared foods, a nice deli, as well as great fruits and vegetables. If you make a right out of the driveway you will be heading to downtown Mill Valley. Among the shops and boutiques located there is Mill Valley Market. This is a small and very good local market. They have excellent meats and a small deli where you could stop to get a sandwich before heading out for a hike. The cheapest gas around is on the corner at the end of the block (towards Whole Foods). The posted price is for cash and that is the easiest way to pay. They don't take American Express. Lots of little boutiques are clustered in our lovely downtown. You could spend an afternoon eating gelato and sipping espresso and wandering from shop to lovely shop. Head out the front door and turn right. Once you get to Throckmorton Street about a mile down the road make a left and park. That is the heart of our little downtown.
Though without the extensive selection that San Francisco offers, Mill Valley has some wonderful restaurants. One of our favorites is a little pizza shop right down the street from us called Tony Tutto Pizza. Closed on Monday and Tuesday, Tony's offers vegetarian and vegan pizza in a lovely outdoor setting. We love hearty meat pizzas but Tony's creations are very special and unique. He uses fresh herbs and organic vegetables to make some delicious offerings and his selection of beers and wines is a wonderful accompaniment. Tony's only takes cash.
There is a more traditional pizza restaurant called Rocco's in the Whole Foods plaza that is also very good. There is a little Thai place next to Rocco's that is also quick and easy and very good for takeout. If you are looking for Thai that is outstanding, R'noh Thai in Larkspur is a wonderful choice. They have a back deck that boasts a lovely setting to enjoy your meal.
Marin County is mostly protected land so there are many natural places to explore. There are hiking books at your bedside to guide you but we will list a couple that are favorites. The Tennessee Valley trail is a roughly 3 miles roundtrip gentle hike to the ocean and back. The cove it leads to is named for The Tennessee, a ship that wrecked on that shore years ago. When it is low tide you can see some parts of the ship remaining. The hike follows a wide mulituse path most of the way until it splits to a lower or upper level portion. The upper portion has a moderate hill. No dogs are allowed on this trail. There is a trail about halfway down Tennessee Valley Road that is a loop that allows dogs. If you walk out the front door and make a left and walk two blocks you will reach the Mill Valley Bike Path. Make a left for a gentle incline walk of about one mile or make a right and it will take you all the way to Sausalito. There is a dog park along this path as well. The path to the right is level and takes you past some beautiful spots along the bay. Lots of great bird watching to be had on this walk.
Enjoy your stay. Don't hesitate to ask if there is something that we can do to make your stay more enjoyable.
Rob and Leslie Purchase
This neighborhood was within walking distance to main street Mill Valley. The apartment was on the lower level and separate from the hosts home with it's own entrance. It was a very comfortable living space and very roomy. Thanks for having us.
I used Leslie's place when I was in town for a friends wedding in Sausalito. The apartment was very nice, super clean, and Leslie provide a nice note listing places to go, things to do, nearby restaurants, etc. There was even a bottle of wine left for us to enjoy.
Great location, with lots of shops and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. It's an inexpensive cab ride / Uber into Sausalito.
Leslie is *super* responsive and an excellent host.
A very nice space, private space! Best thing about it is that Leslie is easy to work with. The apartment is nicely furnished and has everything you could need from the kitchen to the bedroom. Unfortunately, there is no acoustic barrier between the upstairs unit and this unit, which is located downstairs. During our one overnight stay from Sat-Sun, we were awoken by kids and dogs upstairs banging around at 7am and playing on the piano at 8am... not good for sleeping in nor was it made known to us that there were children upstairs. That being said, if you are an early riser and have no need to sleep in, then this should be no problem. But if you like to relax in the morning with some peace and quiet, then this probably won't work for you.
We stayed in this unit for one night recently. Everything was clean and functioning. There was a nice bottle of wine to welcome us. The owners saved us a spot in the driveway, so there were no issues with parking. The unit is in a great location with easy access to downtown Mill Valley. All in all it was a lovely place to spend the night.
This is a fantastic place to stay. Leslie is a great host. The apartment is more spacious than the pictures show, and it is incredibly well stocked for pretty much everything you could want. It's also within walking distance (just under a mile or so) to downtown Mill Valley. We were very happy with our experience.
Our stay in Mill Valley was quite short, only one night, but the private apt offered by Leslie was fantastic. It has everything when you come and stay for a few days, a Whole Foods down the road, and it's only 25/30 mins from SF downtown ! Thanks again to Leslie for this very nice stay.
Leslie and Rob we're very accommodating. They respected our space but were readily available when we needed then. We even enjoyed sitting down and discussing life in the Bay Area with them over a glass of wine. They are definitely a couple I could see us being friends with if we lived there.
About the Host, Leslie
We are a family of five with two dogs. My husband is an Orthopedic Surgeon and I am a small business owner. We live upstairs from the unit. We love living in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are happy to show you all there is to see and do here or give you your privacy if that is your preference.
