The Space

Loads of original charm. Watch the sunset with huge arched west-facing windows in the living room, or on the outside porch. Location is fantastic! A rarity in LA, you can go just a block to cafes and shops, or a few more to Sunset Blvd to take buses to Hollywood, downtown, or the ocean! And still have the privacy of a home with an outdoor porch to enjoy the California weather.
Newcomer to airbnb, or about to inquire? Welcome! Please refer to FAQs at the bottom here first.

Both bedrooms are private, decent sized with dressers and have queen beds. Small washer and dryer in the house. Sheets, towels, dishes and other odds and ends supplied.
Sofa bed in the living room, if you want to go flop house!
Large vintage kitchen with all the necessities - big fridge, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster.
Original 1920's deep bathtub, with new fixtures and an unusual tile mosaic of an abstract landscape with stone pebble floors.
Wifi , of course! No cable, but a mammoth tv and VCR with selection of classics on tape. How's that for 80s retro hipster?! Be kind, rewind! Check below for titles available to watch.

The house is just 4 blocks north of Sunset Blvd., and there are great restaurants, shops and cafes all around. Some personal favorites are Park, Sage, Mohawk Bend, Elf, Xioa, Taix, Two Boots Pizza, - the list goes on!
Around the corner on Echo Park Blvd is a cute strip of shops featuring Chango Coffee and Cookbook (a small gourmet grocery). Walk to the beautiful Elysian Park, or even on over to Dodger Stadium!
101, 2, 5 freeways are about a mile away - easy trip to Downtown, Silverlake is right next door, Hollywood, Pasadena, etc. The east side at it's best.

I am currently spending most of my time out in Joshua Tree 2 1/2 hours away, so I'm not too far away if an issue comes up. When not rented out, I come back to stay here (or in the back house), because it is one great place in an amazing neighborhood! I have a small dog that occasionally stays there as well - so if you have dog allergies this is not a good fit. No cats, though.

Street parking almost always available right in front.
There is a second house on the property (also for rent on airbnb), but there is a yard separating the two, so they are both private.

Please don't write sending your email/phone #/website - this site will automatically delete it until you have made a reservation. If this is confusing, please read their rules, etc.
I like to keep reservations on this site, as the system protects us all.
children : I'm sorry, but yes, they count as extra people. I mean, you count them, right? Except babies not requiring extra bedding, etc. But please let me know if they are involved, since it is a noise thing.
PETS: As an animal lover and keeper, I hate to say no to pets, but there have been issues. Please state the size/breed of your pet and count it as an extra person in your reservation. The extra charge is due to extra cleaning, risk, etc. Longer term stays - write and we can work that out.
FILMING: I'm sorry, no filming can be done at this location at this time. I wish you luck with your endeavors.
DISCOUNTS: To be equal and fair to all guests, I don't offer discounts unless there is a good reason. Rates have been reduced for weekly and monthly rentals, so the dates you enter to inquire should reflect that price.
VCR movies: Rocky!, Gone with the wind, Stripes, All about Eve, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, Cabaret, Fargo, Raising Arizona, Babe, The Hunger, 9 to 5, Pirates of the Caribbean, Blue Velvet, Wayne's World, Speed, Sex Lies & Videotape (can't very well watch that on blue ray, can you?), Meaning of Life, Forest Gump, Freaky Friday, Elephant Man, Charlotte's Web, Pink Flamingos, Pretty in Pink, The Sound of Music, - the list goes on and grows!

  • What an adorable place! My friends and I truly loved staying at this apartment. Very relaxing. Don't disturb the hummingbird in her nest!

  • Kelly's home was so lovely. It has beautiful special touches but feels really comfortable at the same time. We absolutely loved our stay. The neighborhood has a great little strip of stores right around the block with a lovely mini grocery, coffee shop, bakery, bodega and boutiques all in walking distance. Her little bungalow is totally dreamy and we couldn't get enough of the little patio area. We highly recommend!

  • I had a great stay in Kelly's home. I loved the rustic old LA feel and the great sunlight. Location is convenient as well. I would definitely stay again.

  • We had a great time in Kelly's place. Unfortunately it was raining most of the time so we couldn't use the balcony. If you are looking for a cozy and nicely decorated house than this is definitely a good place to stay. The Area was nice and we never ha a problem with find a parking space.

  • A wonderful home to stay in! Comfortable and charming. Pro-tip: the heater (if you need it) is in the middle of the house, so if temperatures drop, it'll get chilly in the rooms unless you keep the bedroom door(s) open. That said, three thumbs up!

  • The house is in a great location, with plenty of street parking as others have noted. Kelly is very laid back and easy to deal with, and everything was clean. The place feels like someone's first apartment right out of college -- the furnishings are very basic. This is not the place to stay if you're expecting to do any real cooking.

    Response from Kelly:

I guess I don't know what "real" cooking is, nor do the other happy past guests who enjoyed group dinners, including a family that had their Thanksgiving here. Besides the basics, there's a food processor and even an ice cream maker. I've considered upgrading some of the "basic" ikea furnishings, but felt like most people would prefer to pay less, rather than a price increase to cover more expensive furniture. I just try to provide a comfortable, affordable, convieniant and interesting place to stay. The photos show what you get here - if you want a gourmet test kitchen or a showroom, there are plenty of more expensive options!

  • Cozy, clean, very reasonably priced house conveniently located to all the sights and sounds of Echo Park. Have stayed here twice now and would definitely stay again!

  • My husband, mother and I enjoyed our eight-night stay at Kelly's house. It was cozy, comfortable and spacious enough for all three of us. Watching favorite old movies on VHS was relaxing at the end of a long day of sightseeing. The house is centrally located, making it easy to get around the city. Kelly was quick to communicate with me and very upfront about everything. Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend Kelly's house!

Artist living mostly in Joshua Tree, CA (with a little time in LA) where I have a small flock of chickens, a dog, two goats and two donkeys. So I'm not TOO far away from LA if something comes up. I've expanded out here in Yucca Valley from renting the studio attached to my home to the house next door plus one down the road. I bought this house in LA along with the home on the hill behind it in 1999, and they are like a part of the family. A tad rustic, but lots of charm. I love that I can be so close to the hustle bustle of one of the greatest cities in the US, yet still have hummingbirds on my porch and occasional raccoons or skunks in the yard. I've tried to leave, but always come back!
