We just returned home after four nights in the beginning of June at Cesar and Ana’s lovely apartment. This was a fantastic airbnb experience. Cesar was a friendly, helpful host from the moment we were in the taxi to the moment we left. The apartment wasn’t ready upon our arrival so Cesar welcomed us into his home to give us information about the area along with a map and some recommendations on restaurants, and let us keep our luggage in his apartment. After traveling for 2 weeks and a hand injury, having the modern convenience of an elevator was appreciated. The apartment was very clean, just as all the other reviewers described. We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was at night - no street noise in the bedroom whatsoever, which made for restful sleep. Location is great because it's so central - from the apartment you are an easy short walk to the Three Big museums, Retiro Park, and the Atocha Train station for a 30-minute ride to Toledo (which we highly recommend) - yet the apartment was on a quiet, non-touristic residential street. A short walk from the apartment is a charming cafe called Matilda where mostly locals hung out, which we enjoyed for great service, coffee, toasts, croissants and Spanish omelettes before heading to the museums, since not all restaurants open so early during the week day. Cesar also set up taxi service for our departure. We really loved Madrid and needed more time there. We definitely want to return to Madrid and can’t think of a better apartment to stay than at Cesar and Ana’s.
Cesar was at the apartment to greet us when we arrived. He showed us around and left us maps and restaurant suggestions for the area. The apartment was very clean and exactly as shown in the photos. Cesar was a wonderful host! He called taxis for us as needed and encouraged us to contact him any time of the day or night if we had a problem. Our adapter did not work in the apartment for charging our laptop and Cesar quickly supplied us with one that worked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cesar's apartment and would not hesitate to stay there again!
Cesar was warm and welcoming and gave us a good overview of Madrid. The apartment is very comfortable and we easily felt at home there. There is good Wi-Fi and the apartment was quiet (with the doors closed), even though it faces a street which can get noisy.
Cesar provided a very useful map with recommendations for restaurants, local supermarkets as well as other shops. He also put together a guide that he put together of Madrid neighborhoods as well as the major sights, which we enjoyed reading. He was easily accessible by phone when we had questions about the apartment. The apartment is comfortable and in a wonderful location.
Cesar was incredibly responsive by email, and welcomed us upon arrival with keys and great advice about restaurants and entertainment. The apartment was spotless, comfortable, modern and wonderfully located. Las Letras is an atmospheric, historic neighborhood, close to the Prado and Parque de Retiro, with great food and beautiful plazas nearby, yet quiet enough to allow you to sleep well at night. It's only about a 10-minute walk from the Atocha train station. You couldn't find a better spot to stay in Madrid!
The fourth-floor apartment gets plenty of light and a nice breeze, but the bedroom got hot during an unseasonably warm couple of May days. There is central AC in the building, but it's also controlled centrally - the thermostat in the apartment seems mostly to run the fan. There is a separate large moveable "cooling fan," which helped a lot when we put it in the bedroom. I imagine during the summer they probably crank the central AC up higher. Cesar was very helpful and prompt in answering our questions about the cooling system and the washing machine.
Cesar's apartment is in perfect location to visit all of the museums and other tourist attractions. Metro and bus located nearby as are many nice restaurants and bars. The apartment was beautiful, very roomy, and spotless. Cesar was perfect host, going above and beyond to help us. Thank you for sharing your wonderful apartmentwith us, Judy and Frank
