Stroncone, is an unspoiled hill town of 6000 people, near to the town and transport hub of Terni, (Umbria region), which has all the facilities of a modern town.
Small, compact, and little known outside of Italy, Stroncone is the ideal base for exploring the better known, and more crowded and expensive, towns of South Umbria - such as Spoleto, Todi, Montefalco, Narni and Trevi.
At a height of 450 meters, it enjoys a favourable climate compared to the settlements on the plain.
Roma, capital of Italy, is very well connected by train, and is easy to reach in less than 1 hour from Terni town.
The house is built into the old walls of the town and overloocks a beautiful valley which is accessored by a path a few hundred yards form the house. Then walks to the ridge of the Appennines - at a 1000 meters - are possible.
Althought small, the house is fully equipped, and ideal for a couple.
It represents the best value to be had in South Umbria one of the most friendly and helpful hosts imaginable.
Thankyou so much Luca for your kind hospitality and the privilege of staying in such an amazing place!
We have to wait for the keys of the apartment for 2,5 hours in front of the house until 7.30 P.M. , because the owner has to work until late.
The apartment felt like a bunker ; very dark , no view at all and the matrass of the sleeping couch was horrible. ( unable to sleep on ) The place is beautifull ; in the middle of a medival village on the top of a hill with great surroundings for exploring. The apartment is cheap , but not a place to come back again. If you want to visit the area , there must be much better places for staying. Just spent a little much more money for this

I am father of a normal family and I have to work like normal people and that day i could not leave the the job as usual I do.
My father (77 y.o.) and my sister received you at your arrival; did you expect local authorities and welcome team? you received my apologize for the inconvenient.
In other places of Stroncone, couple man and man are not appreciated.
All the best for your life.
We've spent 4 days in beautiful Stroncone.
Luca is very nice and friendly person. Though we arrived late in the evening he patiently welcomed us with a smile, and thanks for his concern he even asked us if we have eaten something when we told him that we had a long drive to the place. We were pleased to find in the apartment a lot of booklets, maps and other information about town and surroundings. Luca also kindly provides a bus tickets and schedule.
Apartment is a really nice place, exactly what you expect to see in a small medieval town. Particularly we have to mention a fireplace that we used with a great pleasure. And I still remember the great feeling of sunshine through the window in the early morning and the beautiful view of olive groves on the hillside.
We kindly thank people of Stroncone for their warmness and hospitality, our neighbors for help and advice, people on the streets for smiling and greeting, even the local police! We had a fine for parking and chief of the local police and his staff were so kind and patient to explain us where to pay it and how to reduce the amount (all that mostly with a gesture language 'cause we could not really understand most of the words)
We really liked the place and would like to visit it again.
Luca, thanks a lot for your hospitality and say hello to the neighbors and police chief!
Stroncone is a place to go. You will find everything you need for a phantastic stay in Italy: 2 alimentari, 2 cafe, 4 restaurants, 1 tabacco. The flat is realy quite, smal but you have everything you need. We enjoyed our stay in Lucas house an in Stroncone and came back totally relaxed.
Stroncone is a gem. If you want an authentic Italian scenic stay, you just cannot get this in the cities like Florence or Rome you will not stop taking photos. The place is walking distance to everything you need and very quiet. It's small but has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Luca and his family are great, they meet us there, showed us to the room and told us every thing we needed to know. Next time we will come back for about three weeks to explore more of Umbria. Important, the buses are never on time, we asked the locals they say the same thing, always arrive 15 minutes early.
The place was lovely and the view spectacular. Luca was a gracious host and the area magical.
We stayed at Luca's apartment for just 2 nights in July 2013. It is cosy and located in a very cute part of town that is pedestrian-only. The fittings are a little basic, and the bathroom is tiny (they still found room for the bidet somehow!), but all in all it is very good value for the price.
Luca was away so we met his sister for check-in. It went very smoothly despite the language barrier, and we were given a complimentary bottle of wine as well, which was very kind.
Stroncone was charming and we wish we could have stayed longer to explore - perhaps next time.
A lovely little apartment and a magical little village.
Luca is a very nice host and gave us some excellent advice on a good local restaurant,La Grotta di Ugone.
We look forward to returning to Stroncone and Luca's apartment someday. The open fireplace in the kitchen is a real treat too.
The most beautiful location, in one of the most picturesque walled villages in Umbria.
Luca greeted us with effortless hospitality, and his little cottage built into the town's wall was just perfect for my wife and I.
We ARE coming back to Luca and his incredible 'casa'...
I spent a quiet week in Stroncone, just what I needed after a couple of more hectic travelling weeks with family and friends in Rome and Florence etc. It's not much to do in the town itself (I was just enjoying the piece and quiet, reading etc), but a great departure point for exploring the region, especially if you have a car. The appartment is simple but nice, it was a bit like being in my cabin in the mountains! It's great to have the small medieval town of Stroncone on one side and the nature on the other. There's a trekking path from the house, but I didn't get to try it as it was raining all week. The town also has a couple of restaurants, I went a couple of times at La grotta d'Ugone, which serves good local specialties. There's a kitchen so you can also cook in the house. My only two problems was that it was very cold, even though I used the heating and the oven for firewood (but I guess this would be less of a problem in the summer season). Also there's no internet, not in the appartment and not in the town (I think). I went down to Terni by bus (very easy, several a day and only half hour) because I needed to get some work done. But again, perfect for deconnecting from the everyday stress! Lucca picked me up at the station in Terni and drove me to the house, good service! I didn't see him anymore as he lives in Terni, but he was available for any questions, and even sent me a warning message one of the days when it was going to rain a lot :) Grazie Luca, ci ritornerò volontieri!
