Welcome to my home...
This fully-furnished, extra-large (180 square feet), private room with hardwood floors is located on the first floor in a gorgeous, peaceful two-story, four-bedroom house in north Berkeley's exclusive and beautiful tree-lined "Gourmet Ghetto" neighborhood, within easy walking distance to downtown Berkeley, just 4 blocks to the University of California campus, and a quick 20-minute drive to downtown San Francisco. Best neighborhood in North Berkeley.
This spacious room includes a full-size bed and a large futon, as well as nightstand, full-size dresser, desk with chair, and wireless internet for your working/studying needs. Big bright windows with soft fabric shades provide lots of sunlight and fresh air while you enjoy the gorgeous tree-filled views.
The house is within easy walking distance of the famous Berkeley Rose Garden, a vast array of wonderful restaurants (including world-renowned Chez Panisse; the very popular Cheese Board pizzeria; Asian, European, Indian, Mexican, and other international cuisine; delicatessens; cafes and coffee shops), grocery shopping, the Berkeley Farmer's Market, banking, post office...and more.
Downtown Berkeley is an easy 10-minute walk, and just several minutes by car or bicycle. Public transportation is convenient and abundant, with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations and AC Transit bus lines nearby.
You have convenient access to two shared full bathrooms and one shared half-bathroom. You also receive an off-street space in the driveway for your parking convenience.
The room and house offer a quiet, safe, secure place for studying, visiting friends, and/or touring.
The house features wireless and ethernet-wired connections to the internet in all rooms, full kitchen privileges, living room, laundry, cozy "sitting room", and a large, serene rear deck with scenic bay views that also overlooks the big backyard with its lush avocado and lemon trees.
This room also offers a new wireless LED TV for watching Xfinity cable television. In addition, Netflix has already been programmed into the television so that you can watch movies without commercial interruptions. You can also watch Youtube as well as other entertainment apps found on most new smart television sets.
For long-term stays that are more than a week, you are welcome to help yourself to sheets, pillow cases, towels, etc. that are located in the linen closet next to the upstairs bathroom. Just put the dirty linen, towels, etc. in the dirty clothes hamper next to the washing machine downstairs when you change your bedding and/or change your towels. (Try not to overload the washer and dryer.)
There are spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge from this property. And the Educator/Teacher neighbors are very friendly and nice!

...Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and have a wonderful stay! - Joyce
The house of Joyce is very close to the UC California Campus. Therefore it was the perfect location for our three day stay in Berkeley were we visited our son who is currently an exchange student there. The son of Joyce welcomed us very friendly and was pretty communicative.
非常高兴再次入住JOYCE 的家。在这有热情的房东，舒适环境。还是也许有机会下次我会还是住这里。在此再感谢 Joyce Thomas 和Gerey的接待，也祝 Joyce身体健康！
Joyce and her son Greg were gracious helpful hosts. The room was comfortable, quiet and clean. The location was just perfect for me, within easy walking distance of UC and shops in the Gourmet ghetto. Although I did not cook during my stay, the kitchen was well cared for and seemed to have everything a cook could need. Off street parking was a little tight - I'm a nervous driver - but Joyce had a street parking permit for the one day I needed it. I will choose this location again when I come to Berkeley.
A very nice room to arrive to after relocating to the Bay Area. The bed was very comfortable, the desk area was convenient, and all in all it was clean. It's a shared facility with many international guests coming from all over the world. I especially enjoyed jamming on the piano. I can barely play, but no one complained. :-) Plenty of goodies in the kitchen like pastries for guest. But make sure to label your food as some of my things got eaten. There's off street parking which was nice too, and you can walk to all the shops and places to eat on Shattuck. A very nice, educated family to stay with as you stay for a short or long period. Thank you very much, Joyce. Best wishes.
Joyce's son Greg met us and he was very welcome and friendly. The experience is more like a hostel where you are free to use kitchen, laundry and living room. Although the room is too small for 4 person, the experience is quite positive considering the price.
I spent a month at Joyce's "Spacious Serenity" between November and December 2014. Joyce's son Greg, who actually manages the house, has been very friendly and made himself available for help. The house is in a nice residential area very close to the UC Berkeley campus, in a basically ideal position if you are visiting there. The BART Berkeley station connecting to San Francisco is at walking distance (15/20 minutes), as well as supermarkets and some nice restaurants. The house has many rooms given for rent and they're always full, sometimes with people staying just one, two or three nights. If you plan a long stay, you need to be somewhat used to sharing common spaces (kitchen, bathrooms) with different and everchanging people. The room itself is fine although maybe not as "spacious" as it looks in the picture. In particular, the desk is rather small and if you plan to stay at home and work, maybe the rooms upstairs are better suited. Also, be warned that the room is adjacent to the front door and immediately below the main bathroom, so you hear people coming in and out and the shower running (I was not at all bothered, but some people may be). Except for that little bit, the place is very quiet and I have/had no complaints about noisy or otherwise annoying guests.
My experience here was perfect. The room fits two people comfortably. The only thing that was a little uncomfortable was the bathroom situation. It wasn't really an issue for me and my friend because we were out most of the day but if you are planning on staying in all day that is something you should check out. Other than that everything is exactly how it is described on here. The host Joyce and her son are very friendly and welcoming. They were really understanding and allowed my friend and I to drop our things in the house earlier than check in time. Thank you again for everything. :)
