The Hayloft at “ La Federiga” is a legacy of the agricultural world that remained unchanged from 1800 up to 1960, close to the historical heart of Florence (km 4,5 from the centre of the city)
“La Federiga” is a small group of houses situated in the area of Legnaia. Like the small villages San Quirico and Legnaia and their ancient churches, the hamlet of La Federiga rose up along one of the principle roads called Via Pisana. Our grandparents respectfully called it “strada maestra” (the main road) and it led off from Porta San Frediano, one of the gates of the fourteenth-century walls of Florence. Since Roman times, Via Pisana linked Florence to Pisa across the plains of the river Arno.
For the owner Isabella, an architect, the hayloft is a memento from her grandparents and it is situated within a garden, along with the owner’s house and the stalls, which she restored for use as her office.
Within this “green oasis”, the hayloft is sheltered from the summer heat and the noise of the street by an ivy-clad wall. A rare old strawberry vine creeps all around the door of the entrance. Fig-trees, diospyroskaki, carob trees and rosemary and sage bushes trim the path paved with the original stones.
Isabella has completely restored the two-storied hayloft and furnished it elegantly. A truly authentic experience of living in Florence not only as a tourist but like a true Florentine.
Check in is from 1pm to 8pm. Please communicate your arrival time 2 days before your arrival by mail. Utilities and wifi are included
Thank you Isabella. The place is located 1 minute from the tramway stop, which makes the city center about 10 mn away ! The house is very clean, and has everything one might need. We also received a warm welcome from Isabella. Perfect.
Quanto all'accoglienza personale, ottima !
Isabella’s Hayloft provided a wonderful accommodation in Florence. The location was very close to the museums and the Duomo in Florence via a direct and fast tramway just under five minutes. From the tramway station, it was just about one minute of walking to the Hayloft.
The loft was situated in a beautiful garden with flowers and trees surrounding it - providing a relaxing environment to unwind at the end of a busy sightseeing day. The independent loft was clean and cozy. The downstairs area included a large living/dining area as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The space upstairs occupied two comfortable beds and a seating area. The interior loft was nicely decorated with additional booklets and information for our first visit in Florence.
We had a lovely stay at the Hayloft and would highly recommend the place for those looking for a great vacation. Isabella was kind and informative by answering our questions about Florence and traveling in Italy. It was a pleasure meeting her. She provided us with wine, pastries, fruits, water/milk, and even umbrellas on a raining day. Thank you for being a great host!
The Federiga Loft is a beautiful home away from home. It is located near a direct and fast metro line to the centre. We travelled in jus 5 minutes to the city. The Loft itself has a very nice and relaxing ambience. It has lovely fruit trees and herb bushes around it. The kitchen has everything you would need to make breakfast and lunch. Isabella is a very charming and loveable host. It was a pleasure to meet her. The city, the Loft, it all made this a truly great vacation.
We stayed 4 days at the Hayloft - a wonderful place. You have your own small house for yourself behind a locked gate. We had plenty of space for the 3 of us, 2 adults and a 3 year old girl. The place was very nice and clean and the interior where very nice. It is located a very short walking distance to Florence's only tram-line which for € 1,2 will bring you to the heart of the city in about 10 minutes. Only drawback for the place is that it is very close to a road with relatively heavy traffic which gives some noise when the cars/trucks/vespa's start up at the traffic light - but hey - this is Italy... :-)
My name is Isabella, I am an architect and I was born in the house facing the hayloft. When I was a child I spent most of my time on playing in the surrounding garden.
I wrote a small story of “La Federiga”, with old family photos to let you know the place in which lies the hayloft.
If you like it, I will be glad to be at your disposal to give you the best suggestions about works of art, gardens, villas, museums, uncommon itineraries of Florence and Tuscany.
I can show you boutiques selling handmade or vintage clothes and hats, old or modern jewels and small markets where you can taste and buy genuine Florentine products: chocolates, cheese, bread and delicatessen.
I will do my best to make your stay as much enjoyable as possible.
