Casa de la Vista.
Movie Star Hideaway.
Classy Living in a Fairy-Tale Town.
3 bedrooms, den, 2 1/2 baths...fabulous setting.
Look, you deserve a rest.
You’ve made three pictures in the past eighteen months. The studio is hounding you to do another publicity tour. Your agent is hounding you to read through a stack of scripts he sent over. People and Rolling Stone are hounding you for cover stories. Your fans are hounding you for personal appearances and autographed photos.
All the hounding makes you want to call off the hounds! Anybody who thinks that being a famous Hollywood star is glamorous…should have his head examined.
Relax. Now there's a great place for you to unwind away from the lights, the cameras, and the action.
In the 1950s, Mario Moreno Reyes—known around the world as the inspired movie clown “Cantinflas”— visited San Miguel de Allende and fell under the spell of its considerable charms.
It was a place where he could get away from the hullabaloo of movie-making and restore himself…in style.
“Living in this town is like living in a fairy-tale,” he wrote to a friend in Hollywood.
He found an old Spanish Colonial hacienda a few doors down the street from here, remodeled it, and called it La Ermita—the hermitage. From his balcony, he had a splendid view of the town, an elegant perch where he could watch the slow pace of life by day, and on festival nights, dazzling displays of fireworks.
At Casa de la Vista, you have the same perch, and the same sense of style that enraptured Cantinflas. Here are some of the features:
— Designer’s own home shows quality and beautiful decor throughout; antique crystal chandelier and sconces, custom designed beds, marble walls and floors in the powder room, impressive stone fountain in the entry courtyard. This is a very cheerful, light filled home.
You’ll enjoy the spectacular panoramic vista of San Miguel. Take in the view of the Parroquia (the famous cathedral in the town square), Allende Lake and the mountain range. This wonderful view is seen from both the second and third floors.
The layout of the rooms…
—Main floor: Entry courtyard with fountain, living room and dining room with gas fireplace, kitchen and powder room. Washer/dryer area.
—Second floor: Two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with twin beds, bathroom. And a Study ,with balcony and gas fireplace—the perfect place to start writing your memoirs.
—Third floor: Bedroom suite with queen size bed, gas fireplace, full bath, mini bar area, large view terrace with tables and chairs.
Every convenience has been taken into account to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There are three gas fireplaces and a water purification system for the whole house, mini bar with refrigerator on the third floor.
You’ll have Wi-Fi internet, cable TV, a DVD player with some movies provided plus washer and dryer. This home is professionally managed so someone is available to solve problems and answer questions. Twice weekly maid service is provided.
Conveniently located in downtown Centro, just a short downhill walk to the Jardin, the town square.
Note: on fireplace mantlre…space for the Oscar you’re bound to get this time around.
Professionally managed so someone's available to take care of your needs.
Salida a Queretaro #44 (Cantinflas lived at #64).
I am so happy that we had the opportunity to stay in one of Lynn's place in San Miguel de Allende. They were very helpful...even booked bus tickets for us from Guadalajara when we were struggling to do it online. Also had groceries there for us when we arrived on Christmas Eve. Anytime we needed something, they responded promptly.
I would definitely stay with them again. And the view IS spectacular!
San Miguel de Allende is a magical place and we are so grateful to have had the chance to stay at Lynn's lovely home nestled in the hills above this charming town. The home itself has incredible views from the top floor balcony and was located convenient to town --- everything within walking distance.
The home has been completely remodeled with everything new and clean and nice in the home. The rooms are large and well appointed, each of them very comfortable. The master bedroom is especially nice with an incredible bathroom and a large deck that looks out over San Miguel and the entire area.
The rental company was very thorough in our arrival and provided us with a ton of information about getting to San Miguel and making sure we got to the house with ease. If you've never been to San Miguel, it's always good to have a really good rental company that makes sure your journey into town is smooth. The town has old world charm and the streets can be a bit tricky at first. So we really appreciated their help.
The house itself comes with a purified water system which was great because it's always a concern. The beds were very comfortable and the house was complete with everything you need. Well appointed kitchen, great living space and plenty of privacy for couples or small groups of travelers.
However, there were a few things that need to be considered when renting this house.
The house is beautiful, but stuffy. There are no windows on the back side of the house so air doesn't flow very well at all inside. When you walk in, you can feel that it's stuffy.
It's also located on an extremely busy street that is VERY noisy. Even with the double-paned windows and doors, the noise is always present. And in order to combat the stuffiness, you have to open the windows and deal with busses and cars all going up and down a main artery that leads in and out of town.
The balcony is lovely with sweeping views, but you have to access it through the master bedroom so that is also a consideration. Anyone and everyone that wants to go to the balcony and soak in the views have to pass through your bedroom. And again, the noise is extreme.
Finally, location wise, everything is within walking distance, that's true. And it's all down hill. BUT, coming back it's all UP HILL and I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who isn't prepared for a serious uphill hike. Of course, you can always take a cab for 30-40 pesos back to the house, which was never a problem. But for those who come with the idea of walking be prepared because the walk itself is a bit strenuous.
Also, the internet didn't work in the house.

I have always loved to fix and design. When I began my real estate career, selling new construction homes, I soon realized that the best part of the job was meeting with interior designers and architects and watching as the more artistic elements of the construction fell into place. After 13 years of owning a real estate company, I built two spec homes on magical Orcas Island in Washington State. Then I undertook a major remodel of a cabin on the water. Something clicked in me during that process of transforming the cabin; I knew I had found my passion….remodeling.
Throughout the next twelve years, I transformed some 30 rather creaky homes into fresh, livable residences, all in the Seattle area. Then I decided to turn my attention to designing and remodeling vacation homes; vacation rentals with personality. In 2005, I moved to Mexico, the land of color and craft, and began working there. In 2010 I did a remodel of a 1928 two bedroom apartment in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Then back to Mexico in 2011.
The most exciting phase of building a new place is when everything gets pulled together. I love the details, making sure that one thing plays with another in perfect harmony. I’m always on the hunt for that specific hand-selected ingredient. The beauty of Latin America is being able to design a particular piece that can be made by one of the many talented artisans. Seeing it all come together like a glorious puzzle is very rewarding.
Be my guest at one of eight different and individually unique accommodations in San Miguel de Allende:
“Casa Artistas” on San Francisco Street has a one bedroom casita and two studio apartments with kitchenettes, the Frida and Diego Studios.
”Casa de la Vista, a movie star hide-away” is a three bedroom view home on Salida a Queretaro.
“The Actors Studios” is on Animas Street. It consists of four apartments with kitchens and fireplaces…the Salma Hayek, the Ricardo Montalban, the Dolores del Rio and the Anthony Quinn.
And while you’re at it, check out the “House of Chanel”, a historical, art deco two bedroom apartment in Buenos Aires.
