'Southside' is a small family run guesthouse with an easy going atmosphere. We live in a cosy house in a safe, quiet part of the city center.
Our place is a historic family home, converted into a small guesthouse. We live in one half and guests stay in the other. There are 5 different rooms with a capacity of 15 -20 people. We have pine, cherry, grape and walnut trees and a gorgeous green garden to hang out in. Escape the summer heat in garden hammocks .
We give guests their own keys so they can come and go as they please through the guest entrance. You'll have access to your room, the lounge and the back garden. There is also free breakfast included, and free tea and coffee in the lounge.
Interaction with Guests
The atmosphere is very relaxed - we hang out with guests when we can, but of course give privacy when needed. We also help with arranging travel/excursions/adventures around Kyrgyzstan or finding different information you might need.
Our neighbourhood is safe and clean. It is nearer the mountain end of the city so the air is crisp and fresh. There are parks nearby and while we live only a few minutes walk from a main road with shops, restaurants and transport, our street is very quiet.
There are small public buses (marshutka's) only a minutes walk from our place. They will take you everywhere you need to go. Taxi's anywhere across town costs about $3! Or if your a walker then you can walk into the center. We have a van and do shuttles around and airport pick ups when we can.
Other Things to Note
Please contact us in advance so we can be home to meet you.
We do our best to support local products and producers where we can.
We have secure parking to rest car/motorbike/bicycle if your traveling independently.
Thank you for a smooth start to our Kyrgyz journey! The place is great in every way. Would love to come back!
Katia and her husband Patrick were super helpful. Their guesthouse while not in the centre is close by and it's easy to get to all the main sights. Best of all the guesthouse was very clean and had a communal area where you could hang out and chat to other travellers. I would highly recommend staying here.
Great experience. Lovely guesthouse convenient to city center, but far enough to feel like a retreat. Delicious breakfast - real porridge with butter and black walnuts! - and comfortable beds. Patrick was a great host and ended up facilitating our transition to our next (remote) location in Kyrgyzstan. Highly recommended!
Kate and Patrick are really awesome hosts, who made our stay at Southside feel like home. They were so nice to arrange a transfer for us from and to the airport and make it easy for us to reach the mountainous national park near Bishkek, which is a perfect spot for hiking. And their home-made porridge for breakfast is an amazing start of the day :)
Katia and Patrick the hosts are nice people always willing to go the extra mile in making you feel welcome and helping calling taxis. The guesthouse was clean inside and the balcony area was peaceful and very beautiful when it snowed. The listing is accurate.
I'd highly recommend - I will certainly be returning on my next visit to Bishkek.
Southside guesthouse is a wonderful place to stay. We'd been cycling for 7 months when we got here, and it was such a relief, so restorative, to be there. Comfortable rooms and common area, relaxed and charming atmosphere, great breakfast. Patrick is so great - extremely helpful in whatever we needed around Bishkek, and way beyond, and just a real pleasure to chat to about anything. We thoroughly recommend staying at this guesthouse.
Our family of 5 (3 kids aged 8,6,2) had a fantastic stay at Southside. Photos, descriptions and previous positive reviews are all accurate. Patrick was communicative and helpful in answering many questions about Kstan before we arrived. He personally collected us from the airport at 5am in pouring rain and was always friendly and happy to help out. He managed to find just the right balance between friendliness and showing interest in guests and giving people privacy and time to themselves. The guesthouse is warm, comfortable and extremely clean and tidy. The beds are comfortable and linen is of good quality. The breakfast of porridge, eggs, toast, cheese, jams, tea and coffee was excellent. Biscuits, fruit, dried fruits, nuts and tea/coffee were available at any time. The garden is lovely and Chapa the dog is very friendly. We had a large room that easily accommodated our family with clean shared bathroom. The guesthouse is in a quiet and safe part of town and there are several good restaurants within walking distance. The centre of town is a short trolley bus or taxi ride away. Absolutely no complaints. Highly recommended.
