Sunflower Cottage is a romantic self-catering cottage in McGregor, and is one of the oldest and most loved historical houses in the village. Originally built in the 1880’s, its thick adobe walls, original mud floors, reed ceilings and thatched roof are natural insulators against the heat and cold of the Little Karoo. Located in the heart of the village, the cottage is perfect for couple getaways, to explore this historical town and surrounding winelands in a nostalgic, tranquil environment.

The space
The cottage is ideal for those looking for a quiet spot and digital retreat.
Please note that while the cottage can accommodate up to 4 people, the inside bathroom is en-suite to the double bedroom. The second bedroom is therefore ideal for children or friends who do not mind sharing the main en-suite or using the outside bathroom. It has two basic single beds and our rates for the 3rd and 4th guests using this room are very reasonable.

We supply 100% cotton linen and towels. The double bed has a memory foam mattress topper for a feeling of comfort and luxury.

Features of Sunflower Cottage:
•1 x en-suite double bedroom with four-poster mosquito net
• Second bedroom with 2 single beds and mosquito nets
•Fully equipped kitchen and open plan lounge with indoor fireplace
•Large patio with rain cover and braai facilities
•Lush garden with two sun loungers, fully enclosed and pet friendly
•Outside shower and toilet
•Hammock and holiday books
•Closed system fireplace for cosy winter evenings
•Quiet writing desk space
•Undercover parking

Sunflower Cottage is a lovely base for you to explore the beautiful village of McGregor and the surrounding wine lands - or to simply just retreat and immerse yourself in the feeling of a bygone era.
The garden surrounding the cottage is tranquil and peaceful. The original pottery basins and crockery were made by Millstone pottery, whose workshop you can visit during your stay.

In the summer, listen to the birds in the garden, use the outdoor sun-heated shower and bathroom and relax in the hammock. Go for a swim in the dam or hike up to mountain rock pools. In the winter, curl up next to the indoor fireplace with a good book and a local red wine, visit the local potteries or cinema, go wine tasting or try our local Karoo cooking. McGregor is a small town that is brimming with arts and culture. With local musicians, artists, potters and chefs there is always something magical in McGregor.

Where you’ll be

McGregor, Western Cape, South Africa

McGregor is a quaint, beautiful, tranquil Karoo Dorpie with stunning views.
There are some excellent and very special restaurants and a beautiful retreat center to visit.

Cellphone reception is poor, and you can escape to a place where time moves more slowly.

While summer is always lovely in the village, it’s winter charm is it’s best kept secret. From warm baked goods at the Saturday market, to poetry readings at Temenos. Red wine by the fire or classic films on show at the Wahnfried cinema.
