We met the nicest people during our stay at Gusde's. In term of customer service, Gusde's Villa got 10 stars from us. They were very responsive and stayed on top of things. We overlooked many things because we felt like part of the family there.
The villa. Very rustic (heavy emphasis on the word rustic). My husband did not mind the algae on the tub, or the mosquito wings stuck on sleeping net. My daughter and I did. I used my sarong on their sheet and also my pillow cases on top of theirs because I did not feel theirs are cleaned. But, we did have good sleep all 4 nights.
The compound. Really nice ground! Beautifully maintained. Part of living in village setting, you might hear neighbor's dog barking and cock yoddle every morning. Love it!
Bali is a beautiful island with a rich cultural and artistic people.. I felt the Gusde house combined the old world charm and modern amenities that many westerners expect from a lodging flawlessly.. I will stay here again, when I return because of this and the countless instances of our host going above and beyond to make our stay a comfortable and educational one.. From chauffeured rides in and out of town, to the exceptional breakfast( prepared by the manager himself), to suggestions for out of the way destinations that really made the visit an unadulterated pleasure.. Great local views, and solid comfort make this a must see!! Need I say more??
We decided on Gusde house and booked the 2 Br Cottage in 1 building as the website listing mentioned air-conditioned rooms. Well, it turned out that only the room on the ground floor was air conditioned but not the upper floor's. Well, wasn't a big deal except That the upper floor does not have any ceiling fan but just a small fan on the bedside table. Anyway, upon our request, the staff has kindly swapped the upper room to another ground floor room at the adjacent building. On the whole, let me highlight some pros and cons in our 5d4n stay here.
-The establishment is quiet and peaceful
-Clean rooms (except toilet) and comfortable beds.
-Hot shower but one could not bath when it's raining since the bath tub is located in the open, outside the room.
-Free shuttle bus to and from Ubud town.
-Breakfast was delicious
-The host, Gusde, his manager Wayan Mardika and the tall Wayan was friendly and flexible in the free shuttle bus service. However, the rest of the staff cannot communicate much in English and it's rather difficult to explain what we need.
-The establishment is not very well located and it's difficult to walk around the village without any guide or transportation.
-The place looks beautiful from the website but when we were there, the rooms, toilets and furniture were lacking in maintenance and on the whole the cottage we stayed were in rather run down condition. The rooms were dim, there were no hangers avail in the wardrobe, kitchen pantry was not too clean, has bare minimal amenities, no kettle found and the water cooler was empty. We ended up having to stock up mineral water.
Overall, the stay at Gusde House was acceptable although I hoped they would consider to upkeep the place and provide more basic amenities that could be found in even a 2 star hotel.
Thank you Mavis for your kind review to remind us about our services. Today the up stair room all with air conditioner. I will tell Wayan to check more details about the toilet and kitchen amenities. Thank you for your comment, and we can improve the service for our next guest.
Gusde, his family and his friendly staff clearly know a thing or two about hospitality. It's hard to believe that we were not the only guests during our stay, as the customer service levels were beyond welcoming and we though we were the only ones. Way an (the manager) seemed to take pride in accommodating our ever wish and nothing was impossible (very important when travelling with a young child).
My only advice to future guests is to ensure you have the exact address upon arrival, we along with our taxi driver encountered difficulty in locating the guest house. Despite this, we fully endorse this host and encourage others who value service to book. We look forward to returning in the near future.
Gusde House was very welcoming and clean.
the staff are more than helpful and the free shuttle to Ubud is a key reason to stay with Gusde House.
Lovely place, highly recommend!
A great place to stay just outside Ubud. Gusde, the owner, and Wayan, the manager, were extremely welcoming and helpful during the stay, being very flexible with extra services such as running us into Ubud itself (about 2km) and back for no charge or delivering us food on the first night from the restaurant they run in Ubud. The rooms themselves are traditional style with very comfy beds, and there was always plenty of hot water in the showers. The fans in the bedroom also helped us keep cool when sleeping. Be prepared for lizard visitors if you leave the doors open, but personally I didn't mind this as they eat the mosquitos!
Wonderful days spent at Gusde house! The place is really nice and peaceful. Free shuttle are really helpful and hosts are really kind people. I highly recommend Gusde house!
Thanks to all Gusde team for their warm welcoming!
